That plastic on the sides of the bed is just to protect the paint from damage when getting things in and out of the bed. It is not actually designed to attach anything to.
Great! This video cost me $300 on top of the price of the tonneau now
But I’m so glad I saw it
Thank you, sir‼️
Lol👍
Just reference his old video about covers. “Buy the cheapest one you can find”. My rugged ridge hard cover has its own rails and it completely flat. Lesson….don’t buy junk
I have the MOPAR soft roll up tonneau and it works great. It’s been through 2 very cold Minnesota winters and I have no problems with it and don’t have the side rails.
I also have the Mopar soft top and love it. None of the concerns Rob is speaking about!
I don’t have the side rails on my tyger cover and the instructions said to cut a notch in the plastic so the hand clip is against the metal. My side rails are in good shape.
You don’t need the brackets if you don’t crank the handles down too tight.
I don’t think it would be tight enough🤔
I have the Mopar trifold hard cover which came with its own rails that bolt to the bed of the truck and don’t have any issues. My truck did come with the “ trail rail system and doesn’t use them to mount the cover. So no issues with warping.
This is great information. I appreciate letting us know of the warping issues and to install the rail system instead. Most of the tonneau's say "not for rail system". It appears that isn't true if you get those slide on fasteners that you have on yours. Thanks again.
want to say thank you
just bought my gladiator --- Keep the videos coming - Another Sub --
Congrats and thanks Chuck👍
That’s why I went with a roll up.
Glad my trifold came with metal side rails. Amazed the Mojave didn't have something better for the pricing of it. Wow. Love is update mod
Rails are a must! I’ll never put one on without them👍
It’s funny what will get ordered and skipped by the dealerships. I bought off the lot and the rail package and all it includes was a $650 option they omitted🤷
I was much more interested in the safety packages so didn’t mind the rail package omission. Then I saw how I could put one on and the rest is history.
@@randallupton3622 yours is nicer by far.
@@locotuss I’m very happy with how the rails came out. If I didn’t have the tonneau I think the orange would fade rather badly.
Link to rails for this top
I have the Bestop EZ-Roll that screws in the clamps on both ends that do not put upward pressure on the side rails.
Edit: But I don't think the metal itself will bend with a 22 lb cover. It is probably I hope only the plastic cap bulging by the clamps. Maybe heat gun treatment on the plastic cap will straighten it out.
Feel bad for Randall, live and learn
Thank you for tip
On mine I think the plastic is actually a little longer that the metal. My theory is the plastic warped but not the metal. Don’t like the look but it may smooth out.
Hope so🤔🤔
@@robmotiveplus like I always say (sometime) “Hope Springs Eternal.😃
@@randallupton3622 I hope they straighten out for you. 👍
@@dennisr7452 well the good news is can’t tell they are warped unless I open the tonneau. It stays closed most of the time. After summer heat has a chance to sort of re-mold the poly caps maybe be flat.
I have a EStang 2.0 soft cover It has the clamps on the Front towards the window And on the back Spring loaded Levers. It's the 3rd Cover I had like this And I haven't had that problem.
I've heard those are pretty good👍
Nice to see the boss!! 👍
Lol! Shh😬😬
That's crazy. Mine if I ever instal it fits in the rails.
Best way to do it 👍
Great recommendation and video, thanks!
Perhaps a silly question but what is the green Gladiator bar going across the middle of the truck bed?
Have a look: ruclips.net/video/I35edXK2dzQ/видео.html
Aloha and Good 👍 Afternoon 🔅 Rob. Mahalo for the information on this topic. I'm considering a tonneau cover in the future. I'll probably install a hard-rolling tonneau cover. Nice to see Krista making an appearance too. Great video 📼 Rob.🐶🐕🐈🐅🐆🦌
Lol! She snuck in there!!😂
Over the years I’ve had 4 different types of tonneaus on different trucks. A solid one piece fiberglass, a rolling hard tonneau, 2 different back flips and the current DNA tri-fold. The most water resistant right out of the box was the DNA the back flip and hard rolling tied for being the least water tight. It’s been years ago so they probably have improved. I only bring it up as I don’t think your area is as arid as we are down here (call it 11-12” rain a year on average, we won’t make that this year). Oh this will get Rob to shaking his head, black silicone caulk can be your friend. Also the rolled car door seal around the tailgate can help too. Have fun with it I liked the way the roll up cover could be stopped part way and locked. It was nice to see Christa wasn’t it.
Caulk😬😬
@@robmotiveplus yep that bed as a open seam along the whole front of the bed. On mine there were holes in the sides that road spray will drift into. There are big gaps on the bottom and sides of the tailgate. All have been leak points in the past for me. So yes caulk those holes and gaps. Have to be creative around the tailgate. The rubber car-door seal material can help. I know you have had no problems with water intrusion on yours but either the Jeep is unique or my cover is cause this the first time no leaks (yes I used a tube of caulk).
Where can i get those rails?
Try Bam Wholesale)or Amazon👍
Where can you get those brackets? Just installed the tail system and now the cover won’t work
Which brackets?
@@robmotiveplus the ones in the video that come off the trial rail so you can still use your cover. I have a cover just got the Mopar rails now the cover won’t work
Check with Sparks Parts🤔
commenting again and I have to disagree. even if you have the trail rail system and depending on which tonneau cover you have, you are going to see those bed caps warping. And no metal inside is NOT that weak. if it was, any rack system with weights would have damaged the metal completely.
I’ve never had an issues when using the rail system👍
Have those plastic trims been trimmed to be flushed with the metal of the truck bed (metal underneath)? If not every clamp section needs to be trimmed/modified. Let me know if u trimmed the plastic
I haven't looked and now i'm afraid to look.
Lol! Don’t look😑
He has big nostrils 😂
