Metal Detecting an Old Church in the Middle of a Bustling City!

- This week we get asked to metal detect an old church in the heart of the bustling city of Wilmington Delaware. The congregation decided to tear up their existing landscaping and change it up for a different curb appeal so they asked us to come out with our metal detectors before the work begins to see what items might be found in the yard so they can be put on display inside. The church itself was constructed around 1890 on the site of a previous farmhouse that went back 100 years older than that so the possibilities can be endless, as this whole area was founded way back in 1638! So lets do a quick prayer, bury a fresh banana, and see what cool pieces we can find buried in this holy plot!

Hey! so the first coin you found at 4:50, that is actually a british coin! Candian coins usually have CANADA written on the back of the coin with a certain animal on the back. British coins will always have that gate in the middle with the amount circled around the top. Keep that one! since the Queen has passed away, all of the British money with the Queen's face will be out of circulation and will now have King Charles on the front. Great find!
You're correct a British penny not worth much and probably never will - so many produced. Unusual find at that location. Canada is dollar and cents.
I thought for sure he would realize his error when he said “Queen Elizabeth”😂.

We had one at Trenton State College when I was a music major there in 1959-60,

My grandfather who helped raise me and taught me to sing was the same age as that coin...born in 1886. He told me some crazy survival stories. He was a preacher.

Well if there are gonna strip some of the top soil away, and a delay before laying in new ,you might want to hit it after the strip out...nice hunt always a pleasure
I have a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202, a suprisingly good coin machine, and a Vanquish 340. I got a no name pinpointer with a lion on it but it works very well. A pinpointer is a must with the 340. Coins are usually hard to see in our Louisiana dirt and come out black. Dimes and pennies are very hard to see. With my Bounty Hunters I always dug quarter signals to get beer money and pulltab/nickel/aluminum bottle cap ones when hunting rings. I found three 14k gold rings one day on a freshwater beach in just over 30 minutes with a Bounty Hunter very similar to the one I have now.
Crucifix had Faith and Grace on the back. Geese, lol!

This just all tells me the REALLY nice and old stuff that could be found is likely underneath that paved road the traffic travels on.

Best thing is to come back after they have removed the sod. I've done very well when the sod is removed getting you down deeper.
this will be a different type of video, in town. excited to see what you men find. There is an app for your phone called magnifier camera and it works easier than a loupe for seeing the marks, not sure if it works as well outside, but I use it to identify jewelry often. People rub their crucifixes often might be why so smooth.

The hunt was great, but secondary to that impressive building. Check out St. Anne's Cathedral in Fall River- built in 1891 and just an astounding feat of architecture.

That fountain pen might have a gold nib.
That looks like a larger version of the San Luis Obispo Presbyterian church. It is less than a mile away.from a 1772 Catholic mission. Fountain pen nibs, the points are often 14kt.
That's one of those places that would be killer after they start digging up the lawn.
