    The Pattern 14, Pattern 17, and the American Enfield rifles have been lost in time and buried due to the popularity of Springfield rifles. This presentation brings back the famous development and use of the American Enfield rifles during a time when the entire world was modernizing.

    Binged several of these videos over the last few days. This guy would be a great guest lecturer for a US history class.

    Great info on the 1917. I love mine. My dad bought it when he got out of the army in 46. It has red paint on the barrel end of the stock.

    I always thought that the development of the Pattern 1914 was a fascinating story. When you compare and contrast the United States' and Great Britain's rifle development at the turn of the century, you realize that they were experiencing much the same problem.....their chosen main combat rifle was being whipped soundly by the Mauser (the 1893 model for the Americans, and the 1895 for the Brits). How the two countries addressed this issue and went on the develop the rifles that they eventually used during the Great War and beyond (and how the two countries manufacturing resources became intertwined) is even more fascinating. Thanks for you video.

      Be sure to see the video on 1917 Enfield bayonets. We plan to release a two part video on the 03 Springfield. We already have one on its bayonet.

    For the record, two 5 round clips of .303 will fit in a WWI cartridge pouch. It's tight, but it will work, at least with the later war canvas equipment.

      Yes it works with the late war belts but not with the early Mills pattern.

    The weak extractor/ejector makes me think twice about wanting a 1917

    • @stang3787
      @stang3787 3 года назад

      It is still an accurate historically important rifle but not one I would take into combat. The WWII fix for the ejector is a major improvement .

      The mauser 98 design is known for the strength of the extractor , have you ever had an ejector fail on any bolt action rifle , I have never heard of a mauser 98 ejector failing
