- I'll have a full write up on this synth up at beepbloop.com. I just noticed that there's not very much on this drum synth so I messed around with it for a half hour and am bringing you the tastiest bits. It's typically pretty overlooked in general, but is incredibly capable of all types of tones. I pushed it pretty far into tonal territory for this demo, but I'll follow up with some demos on creating typical analog drum tones.
It's a bit softer edged than some of the vintage roland classics, but that makes it really good for dub and more experimental pieces. Also the tonal parts make it really great for trap, moombahton and other harder genres or things like IDM. There are separate outs for each sound and I really could have run each one to my mixer to for maximum quality to get specific compression for each tone, etc, but for this demo I wanted something more loose and fuzzy.
I do push the mixer pretty hard at moments but I like what it does to the sound. I sequenced the beat on an electribe ER-1, to utilize the classic XOX style sequencing and ran it through an Electro Harmonix Memory Man with Hazarai to get a bit of ambience and the last clip also has a bit of beat repeat in Ableton that I forgot to take off.
Surprisingly the rhythm is the same throughout, but I just tweaked tones to show that even with something fairly unchanging, by just tweaking tones you can really do so much with this module and just faded volume knobs to bring parts in and out. The output works in an interesting way, where the different tones seem to fight each other a bit for what sits on top at times, and it's really nice. Very different from many things I've tried. OMG!!!!!! The sound of this machine still freaks me out in 2024!!!!!
this is hands down THE best demo of the DRM MKIII
big ups!
Nice video of the DRMIII. It's nice to see you pushing the boundaries with it. I've had my eyes on one for about a year now. Might be time to take the plunge.
Nice, real deep sounds you got going there.
It was amazing to own. I ended up changing up my setup and no longer own it but seriously miss it. The dp4 had nothing going into it but when it still worked it was my favorite effect unit.
Thanks guys. I really should do more demos of gear in general. Maybe I'll work on a drum sound tutorial with my mopho and the modular...
So looking around a bit at this time and finding this to be a very unique drum machine.
Nothing much else like it anywhere
Nice! It's such a great synth.
Isolated in 2020 and this still sounds sooo good!!! Nice demo!
With ya buddy ;)
Beautiful approach to the DRM1 mk3. You’ve really made the most of those higher tones of the tom drums. The bends and all. At first the piece sounds like your working the pedal more like the main instrument, especially when I can see all the lights going off visually hinting at something much more layered and deep. This was probably the DRM as it was originally intended. And you’ve got the whole thing all sent to the pedal, no fancy TRS cables to make use of the individual send/receives. VERY UNIQUE and BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE VERMONA DRM1.
Nice programming/manipulation. Bravo.
sounds delicious!!!
This is amazing
Tasty bit of work there
love it!!!really nice!!cheers from italy
Great jam!
I wanted one of these things anyway, but now you've made me NEED one!! :) BTW I followed the link to this from an old MUFFWIGGLER thread. :)
this was pretty sweet
A very good an subtle machine !
super sound, very good
cooles video! ;) ps.: i love the vermona drm!
very cool, i like the possibility of making tones, could be a nice tool for live playing!
amazing demo, they should definitely hire you as demo artist for this product, makes me wanna buy one after seeing this video :p
mesmerising....
Actually on the contrary I LOVE pure analog. It's just like how the Arturia Minibrute is so flexible and has a great, harsh sound but without being able to save anything you put hard work into besides a photo snap is quite impractical.
Either way, I'm still planning to get a Vermona DRM lol... I just like to play devil's advocate w/ my comments.
SINISTER 👿!
well done, really ! thanx
🔥🔥🔥
INsane!
It was a Mackie 820i.
great demo. what do you think of Korg SQ1 as sequencer for this ?
mrelevener xi how many channels doe the SQ have? The Vermona has 8-10 separate channels.
man I'd get lost in that for hours...anything running through the DP4?
7:30 in is why i am buying this right now, DAMN thats funky.
Nice and bright!
But you need isotope de-click;)
Cheers
hey caleb im really diggin that drum synth, i was wondering though wether it is regular version or the trigger one. I ve read also a lot on its midi sequencing issues when it comes to timing, have you had problems with this? overall would recommend this as my main piece of gear for drums? thanks mate
samerika he's syncing it with a Korg Electribe, which is midi.
I sequence mine with either an Octatrack or Machinedrum without any issues. The advantage to using it with midi is you can use velocity. The triggers are just gates.
I think people with midi issues are using it with some daw running in pc and windows os. I might be wrong.
Looks a bit of a headache to program, and I guess you can't store/save a setup which would be quite unfortunate. However your sinister lighting and experimental demo is killer. Cool stuff.
Pretty rad demo. What were you using for sequencing? What about effects? Apologies if you already mentioned either -- I didn't see it if you did.
+Jon Dustmite i was using an er-1 for sequencing, using essentially the same pattern for the whole track. Then the ensoniq dp4 and memory man w hazarai for the effects and a blasted mackie mixer for distortion
+caleb condit Nice! Thanks. How do you like the er-1?
you mentioned that you sequenced the drm with an electribe ER-1. are you able to easily switch between kick, snares, hihats, etc. with that bit of kit? thinking of getting the drm but don't want to spend an additional fortune on a step sequencer
check out the beatstep pro..
+Oliver Linley VERY easily. At this point a beat step pro would be a really great way to sequence this though.
F**kin Bananas ! Nice !
Can you sequence this in a DAW like Ableton or do you need and external hardware sequencer?
Michael anything that sends midi or triggers. Ableton would work for sure.
But only for triggering the sounds, the parameters neither send nor receive MIDI CC - that's purely on the hardware
and whats the mixer you'r driving?
how many instruments / voices does it have ?
True story.
oh
Is this really just the drm 1, a hardware sequencer and a memory man?
Yup
@@condit79 it's really cool. Could listen to this for days
It has a built in spring reverb and it sure sounds like it.
Really nice machine I just don't like the kick for some kind of sound, but anyway...
i guess analog is not your fav... the vermona has to be one of the best drumsynths in terms of programming, plus the lack of presets and memory makes it a nice tool

I speak the same language, I have bassblip.blogspot.com ... though its been a while since I updated it.
