I’ve actually had good luck with taking apart the entire carburetor taking all the gaskets and everything out of it and whatever is metal and plastic I spray with carburetor cleaner and I clean the gaskets with nitro fuel it seems to work OK never really had a problem
I have a Tamiya 1/10 engine that has sat for over 10 years, and while i've been able to get it to run today, it stalls and needs to be constantly primed with fuel. I can also blow on the hose that goes from the exhaust to the fuel tank but needs to be blown so hard that makes me feel like there's a partial clog. I replaced the hoses because one had a solidified blob of old fuel, so i'd expect the carb to be the same inside. After replacing hoses and helping it a bit with starting fluid, i've been able to make it run and rev, but still isn't very happy regarding keeping running, so i'll take this video as instructions to fix it, or at least clean it, which never hurts.
Don't use starter fluid on these engines it will wash all the oil away and damage them it will also destroy the glow plugs platinum plating. Probably time to pull the high speed needle apart clean it and check for fuel and exhaust system leaks very important! And more than likely the plug is warn and now damaged. Though engines take a OS A3 or OS #6 glow plug. Keep in mind they are not anything like a Diesel. The rely on a catalytic reaction between platinum and methanol to run. That plug will keep burning the whole time the engine is running. If you remove the igniter and the engine shuts off Immediately means the platinum on the coil is gone. Just because it glows doesn't mean it's good. 😉
That was a nice and quick clean and lube job. I liked it. As you mentioned, folks can do a more in depth/full refresh or a complete rebuild, if they so choose (or if the need arises). Thanks for getting a carb Vid out 🔥💪🏻
Quite informative & very well presented cleaning process. Thank you! I have one question: I will be getting new O-rings for my nitro engine, obviously will be keeping 2 sets as spares. How do I ensure they will not go bad (dry rot etc)? They will be stored in a drawer, of course, but should I lube them with anything? Thanks in advance!!
Love your 100% no filter vids. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. Working on my revo 3.3 that I bought used following your very detailed videos. Much appreciated!
Welcome! And thanks for watchin! Glad the video helped ya! And no unfortunately I don't. But if you go on eBay you can usually buy the clutch kit flywheel and etc.. for relatively cheap Most of the time. I'm planning on taking the savage out soon hopefully. Also not sure if you're on Facebook or not but there is a great group called nitro rc enthusiasts. I'm in there as an Admin if you are having a hard time finding par numbers and all that stuff. 😎🍻
Can I use ballistol for a after run oil on the carb and inside the engine? Ballistol is used for guns and it’s non toxic (I believe it’s mineral oil based. Says it’s safe on rubber and leather as well and they even said it can be used for winterizing engines (burns off during starting).
@@thebug4046 Darn ok. It’s also suppose to dissolve carbon deposits. I might try it on a HPI 3.0 bc they’re so easy to buy lol. Also I see you use 3in1 as after run oil. Where to do you apply the oil on the engine?
I have a 2004 Losi LST that has the Mach .26 engine. The truck is in fantastic shape, but because had it in an indoor storage facility for eight years or so the carb is stuck. Can you please tell me what size is the nut in the carb that connects it to the engine? I’d like to follow your procedure so I can get it running again. Thank you
They can last several years or about 15 to 20 gallons depending on how you break it in how you take care of it how you tune it. I have seen guys that burn them up in less than a gallon or guys that know what they are doing and last a really long time
Just out of curiosity can the jet be removed from the carburetor. I know on some carbs this can be done from the opposite side of the low speed middle but some carbs don't have that access screw.
Hey, just been watching this video. Got an OS Max 12TR model with a 11A Carburetor. I have a problem with the tuning, turning the idle needle doesn’t change the idle distance of the carburetor. Any idea what it could be about?

@thebug4046 80ish at harbor freight. You can edit out the slow parts. Its the way to go. Its actually pretty quick and doesn't hurt rubber. Half cup engine degreaser and water for the rest.
I was just thinking about cleaning all my carbs today while i was at work.. I appreciate the vids man, always very informative..

No problem man glad you liked it!
Does Ethanol work for this? Or does it have to be Isopropanol?
Thanks for the vid btw, really helpful
You can use ethanol for cleaning or rubbing alcohol as long as it's 99%. Or brake parts cleaner

No worries! And yes you should oil them. Using Air tool oil i have had engines sit for years no problem

to be honest dude I have no Experience with that stuff you can try it. Lucas air to oil is a Trident true

That kind of sucks. all I can recommend is just to open up your tool Box and find the correct size socket or Allan key.

A little bit of oil down the glow plug hole? That’s all I had to do to free mine!
Sure it will work. But usually it's best to pull it apart and find out what it's stuck. And give it a good clean up
