I got lost while trying to keep my engine running but won't stay running because my settings were out of whack. I do know where my high speed position supposed to be but for the low speed needle is where I got lost, now seeing this video, I'm going back to the airfield to try this, thank you man! I hope this works for me 'cause I was frustrated because not too many people know about setting and I'm new to glow engine and the hobby. Again thanks so much! You now have a new subscriber.
Thanks for one of easiest ways to explain this process. I bought an old Carl Goldberg Freedom 20. I kew nothing about glow engines, I fly all electric, but I followed your video and it started right up. After cleaning it. It didn't look like it was ran very much. It still need help, but I think it's a matter of getting all the adjustments just right. It's not an expensive engines, but I think I'll buy more used ones and clean them up. Thanks.
Your the best man, I’ve been an electric guy from start but have been collecting glow planes as they seem to obsolete here unfortunately. I’ve been building and trying to give these old planes s new life. Thanks a million you have given me some extra ambition get them in the air. Keep up the awesome work.
Blowing air into the fuel inlet helped me to get my Moki 180 running. The carb has a dial style low end mixture adjustment. By blowing air into the fuel inlet, I discovered that I was misunderstanding the plus/minus marks on the dial. The next step is to upgrade to large fuel line. Thanks again
OH YES! I just spent about a hour with my OS .40 fp trying to get the low end. It would just die. i will try again with your method. This engine was given to me. Thanks!
Looks easy enough to me, thanks. I knew there had to be an easier way to set up a carb than what the manual says. I prefer to do things the way you do them, as I have done many small engine repairs in my life, this type of carb is different for me but I KNEW someone had an old timer method of getting these nitro engines tuned at a starting point. With most engines you would use an ear anyways. I have had people ask me about RPMs and I just stare at them. Anyone working around engines long enough ,doesnt need a meter to tune an engine. At least I never have. I could set the carbs on a twin cylinder snowmobile by ear to out race anything on the track using my ear and a spark plug wrench( to read the plugs).
I read on a site about how RC carburetors work, they say to never bottom out a low speed mixture screw, it could change the opening of the jet and cause tuning difficulties.
How many carbs have you had apart? You can do the same thing with a high speed needle if you close it too tightly. Many carbs have different types of spray bar assemblies. So your general statement only applies to certain types of carbs and how 'ham fisted' you are.
Wow, what a brilliant technique! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I have a new old engine I just bought and this will come in very handy should I have any difficulties. Thank you sir.
Thanks mate, just qualified for my wings on Boomerang 40 EP have a 0.25 ci Enya Diesel to run in for my foray into IC Engines. This'll help heaps (Luckily I have many IC flyer at my club who use your method for card setup). RW
what an execelent tution ,this has give me a great insight of how to set up,thankyou so much David,do you have other video of how to service secondhand engine that has sieze up?
Newbie here I have a fox 40 engine but the carb throttle barrel is frozen stiff. Do I need to find a replacement or is there a way to free it up? It looks like the previous owner had heavy oil in the fuel mixture.
hi sir how are you hope you are doing well i need some help i have brand new asp s32a nitro engine butt carburetor messed up i don't know how to turn carburetor so plz help me...
Hi David I have a 55ax OS engine, never run a second, but the needle does not make full turn to adjust the air? do you have any idea why it behaves so?
Hi, my carburettor does not have a high speed valve, but only a throttle stop and a idle screw. I can see that it once has had a "remote needle valve" i think it's called. Would this have the same effect as the high speed screw on the carburettor in the video?
just set it so air is shut off when throttle is shut but as it starts to open you should hear air start to flow. top end speed has to be what ever from this. Once you start engine it then take no time to set it total.
A friend of mine literally gave away a bag of 8 Super Tigre engines, because he couldn't get any of them to run smooth... I suspect he didn't know how to tune them.
Nice video! I have a noob question... So I have a surpass fs-70 and the carburator like others have the throttle Barrel with a spring in the bottom , my doubt is that that spring is to push the barrel out and take care of the slop that exists, but if I'm running the engine and push the throttle barrel against the spring with for example my finger then it will move a little and the needle will close a bit and that would be sufficient to change the mixture and for example cease the engine... The spring is a new os original so I would like you to help me to understand if this is normal and why...
Yes it is possible to affect the running and mixture settings by pushing in on the carb barrel. In normal operation there is nothing pushing in on the barrel so..... What is the issue?
@@dmrcflyr2 I have an OS 46 ax the low idle speed I followed all the instructions it runs great when I get it set but as I run the engine the screw goes in I'm lost help this is Woody
I don't use the the throttle stop screw. I use my throttle trim to be able to kill the engine. Being able to kill the engine from your remote is far safer.
You are most welcome. I read too many times on the forums where folks have running issues and blame the carb or are asking how to reset them. That was the impetus for this video.
This technique really saved me on many engines after first seeing you demonstrate 6 years ago so thanks still

THANK YOU SO MUCH , this cleared up so much confusion!!!! My Plane is now running like a Swiss watch

This video taught me how to finally get a used Saito FA100 to run well. Thanks!

Fantastic advice David, I have struggled to get my carb set correctly at low speed. I will use this technique going forward.

I've only just found your channel, and i really like how you do things. Very informative and interesting!

Great video. Went through the steps and my needle valve for the fuel mixture would not completely close. Ordered a new one. Thanks for the help!
David, this video is really useful, there is only one short video that I watched before but yours is just great one. I will try it with mine.

All the years of doing nitro I never thought of doing it that way. Damn good idea

Excellent video on establishing a baseline. I learned something new today.
Thanks for posting, it is very much appreciated! 👍🏻😃✌🏻
No problem!

Just watched this and it really helped me tune my traxxas carb cheers dude 👍
Wow, your video is gonna help me alot to adjust my old tmaxx. 15. Thanks
Nice one david. ....best setup of carbs yet.thats why I like your vids bro..no bullshit or bollocks just straight forward with no bells 👍👍👍

Great way of illustrating and explaining! Thanks!
In typical fashion, great vid! Thanks David.
This is what Ive been waiting for. cheers buddy for sharing this.
thank you david for another video packed with useful info
Brill, David - will do that from now on as it takes a LOT of the guesswork ou! Diolch eto, Den, Cymru (Wales)

Very well explained video on a process that's a pain when you have to guess, thank you.
Great video! 👍
Thank you Dave. Great video!
Very good idea,I like it
I wish I had found your site sooner. I would have sent you a lohmann engine to run

Hi, can You please tell me if the 40G carb from the O.S. 46AX has a spring between barrel and housing or not? Thanks in advance!...
A 30 second search of the internet comes up with the 46AX manual. In the manual if shows a breakdown of the carb. I’ll klet you take it from there….
Great video.. handy reminder. Cheers.

Carb reset. Great video😀🇳🇱
Good video, can't wait to try it out.
Well done David!
This is a great video. It has been extremely helpful. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for the donation to my channel Carl!
Helluva good instructional video Dave! Thanks.
Thank you David. I need to make a follow up one showing the differences between the twin needle and air bleed carb setups.
Yes, I think that would be a video-worthy topic.

Thanks! Good technique, I use the same. But I advise to use the syringe, not your mouth to blow. Because of toxic of nitro fuel.
Thanks david
Really nice top thanks
Thanks 😊🙏
Thank you!
Thanks David really clear!
Cheers from 🇺🇾☘️👍
Thanks!
would have helped if you showed us how to assemble it
I guess some people just cannot be pleased. How hard is it really?
Does this work on car nitro engines?
Yes
Good stuf
checked
I get it.
I hoped someone would!
Find me somebody who knows what they're talking😊
Thanks!
