- TANEY COUNTY, Mo. -- Storms are coming into the Ozarks as early as next week.
Missouri can be hit hard by severe weather as spring turns into summer.
Just in time for the season, the world's first tornado proof cabin is now on the market in the Ozarks.
The close to 800-thousand-dollar home is part of a new development called "The Cabins at Maple Rock." located just north of Branson in Taney County.
"You know it's such a different project. It's so unique, most people never have...really nobody has seen anything like this, cuz it hasn't been done before," said Dane Braden, who heads up sales and marketing for The Cabins at Maple Rock.
Braden says the 1700-square foot, two bedroom, 3 bathroom, concrete, tornado proof home on Victor Church road in Taney County, has it all.
"The other thing that helps is the ceilings and the openness of the floor plan and this design," Braden said, "It just has that airy spacious feeling. But it's very cozy with this timeless look that he's got going here."
The cabin is insulated with six inches of concrete on the outside and four inches of foam insulation in the middle -- with two more inches of concrete on the interior of home. The rood is made from industrial grade weathering steel. The same kind used to build highway bridges.
"Structurally, the home does not need any of this timber framing. But he did it anyway, so that it would be true to the look," said Braden
While this home was built for endurance and efficiency, the inspiration behind the creation is legacy.
"The tornado proof and the fire proof and the pest proof, all of those aspects are fantastic. But, what he was trying to do more than anything else was build something enduring." Braden says the home appeals to those looking for a home that will stand the test of time.
"All of the priorities change and they start thinking about the legacy that they're going to leave. What am I going to leave behind when I go and what can I leave my family that will survive me," said Braden.
The general public will get their chance to get a tour of the home on May 25th, at a special open house celebration.

That roof would tear right off in a large tornado. Who is the builder trying to scam?
My design would be a concrete dome with no overhangs or stuff that resists the flow of the wind.
I'd have thick ass glass dome with a hella camera set-up to record it. Definitely have a cellar for my scared ass because that shit probably wouldn't work either lol.
@Keilan Smith WRONG, scores of tornado proof dome homes have been built in the USA & Canada.
I am still wondering why a huge satellite dish wouldn't collapsed when a tornado struck it.
I would build a concrete bunker under the granite mountain
Right? I agree but they keep building the same way over and over again!
Mr Braden looks extremly fishy to me. Wouldn't buy anything from him
Lol! Yeah he looks like a cheesy used car salesman.
Lol!! Yeah sleazy af
Facts looking like someone just buy this shit so I can get rich 🤦♂️🤣

I believe that this house can still be knocked down by a tornado.
Incredible
$800,000 cost, of which $450,000 is profit, and not even a third bedroom. Fail!
It costs $800,000?
Nevermind. I missed that she said it already
It’s the 🗑 tour for me
I just watched the movie '13 Minutes' then went looking for tornado proof homes. Didn't make sense to me why in a tornado prone area they still hadn't got it worked out. Im sure there must be semi-affordable tornado proof houses avail, and if you couldn't afford one you're not going to move out to tornado valley and build a normal 2 story house are you? geez i'd be digging into a hillside. But i'm sure anyone facing these dangers are doing all they can to be prepared
because people who live there dont have money
people are stupid!, it should be mandatory to live in texas oklahoma, kensas to have an anti-tornadoes house, or a housse build with concrete!
@@levi2732 people can barley afford to live in a trailer how could they afford a concrete basement or house.
Because being below ground is considered the safest place to ride out a tornado. While this is a very nice house and probably built far better than the cookie cutter houses you see in these new fast growing developments, I would not trust it against an EF4 or EF5. Unfortunately you're not able to tell exactly how strong the tornado is after it rips through your town.
Getting hit by a tornado, even in an area where that is possible is about as likely as an ant crawling across a dart board getting hit by a dart. Tornadoes aren’t hurricanes. They don’t cut a wide path.
dang that is one slimy-looking salesman dude. wouldn't believe a word he said trying to sell me something
😂😂
fr something’s off with that guy
In Oklahoma, new contruction requires hip roofs. Most homes are built with only a ground floor and no porches or wide overhangs. Codes require hurricane straps and masonry.
Wasn't there a boat they deemed unsinkable?
Titanic 2
That ship was made with shoddy metal, had a coal fire before setting out, and then hit an iceberg in the ocean. Long as this house does none of that, they should be fine. 😏
This guy looks like a game show host in hell. And the next life up for bid...
😂😂these comments about the realtor are hilarious
Oh nevermind. I missed how much they said it was.
An ef5 would turn it to toothpicks. People don't realize what 300 mph wind can do.
Exactly! A direct hit from an EF5 tornado would blast that home right off its foundation
If it were a reinforced monolithic dome structure with no exposed overhangs then I would change my mind
An F5 would rip this place apart. Only home that is really tornado proof would be a home built underground like 20 feet underground.
Me: Yay! NO SCHOOL!!
My design would be an underground bunker with 20' thick walls and ceilings. I'd make it nuclear radiation proof with enough food and water for 5 years. All the bells and whistles.
While it's a beautiful home, I would not trust it against an EF4 or stronger tornado. Your best bet is still to be underground or in an above ground storm shelter.
its best to build a home underground.
Maybe not during an earthquake lol
@@boxinthejack2166 actually in a earthquake underground is better, i couldn't believe either. do a google search.
its like center of tornado is safer.
elon musk explains it when talking to someone in a video.
Or a flood
I would think it would be better to have a home mostly underground, but also partially above ground.
Most people can't afford $800,000 in Missouri.
Want a tornado proofed home. Make it domed shape with solid concrete and rebar. Have it tied into the foundation thats buried with rebar. Have special resistant steel shutters that you can close and bolt in and blast doors lol. Should hold! lol
Only 800,000 to protect your family
Devil slaps house
Devil: yeah this baby can take some hits
This is my idea of a real Tornado Proof House. Speaking of a beautiful Eurpopean castle look three story house. With a ten car garage. This house I am speaking about will be garanteed to with stand a EF-10 Tornado . Example : Look at a big boulder out in the forest or the Great Plains. How many tornados has this great big granite boulder been through ? Why has it lasted so long. This is simply because the boulder offers nothing that can cause drag or lift. So with this being the case , if the house is never in the path of a EF-10 Tornado , then nothing will happen to this five bedroom, five full bathroom House . With a big humongous kitchen . With a den and game room. With a ten car garage. So here is my plan and my idea. ( 1.) Built this house on top of a elevator that can go 50 feet bellow the surface of the earth in less then 37 seconds. The entire house with garage go's deep under ground on a big under ground elevator in 37 seconds. As soon as the house is in motion to go down 50 feet under ground the City Gas is shut off. ( 2.) Now simotaniously as the house is going 50 feet under ground two half shells that form a pefect Dome rise up. They then connect at the top. They get interliked through remote control pr-programed mechanisms. Simotaniously a concrete and steel floor covers the top of where the house was. Yet the house is now 50 feet under ground. The two Domes that go up are now linked and interconnected . The two Domes are made of ten inch thick concrete and steel. ( 3.) For oxygen to breath 50 feet under ground . Will be water kept in a locked under ground pool of water. To be used to convert water into oxygen. The same set up as on a Nuke Submarine. ( 4.) For energy and power. ( 1.) Solar Power. ( 2.) City Electricity .( 3.) Gas Generator. Note: For food. There can be two concrete and steel round cylander caves that lead to a Storage container that is used as a freezer to keep meat cold and frozen. The other storage container can be used as a refrigerator. Now if a EF-10 Tornado hits. The Three Story House with attached ten car garage will now be deep 50 feet under ground. This means no damage to the house . No one dies. This can be done. Its sadly because house builders make lots of money rebuilding cheap houses that are not Ef-10 Tornado Proof. This type of house , might be : ( 1.) Fire Proof. ( 2.) EF-10 Tornado Proof. ( 3.) Tidal Wave Proof. ( 4.) Flood Water Proof. Note: Just like the President is rushed deep under ground. Make houses the very same way. Only the entire house and garage go's deep under ground. No house damage. No one dies. A house for a life time. This type of house can even be Earth Quake proof. This is my idea. After the Ef-10 Tornado passes by . Simply raise the house back up. Very simple. With lots of technology in mind.
Sales guy has cloven hooves.
800k home probably has a huge insurance price as where a monolithic home has low insurance on it.
Can you check it after this years...no tornados? Does it work?
Hyperbole. Tornado proof cabins and houses have been being made for decades. Also, the one pictured would loose the entire front in a tornado
So much wood. Holy crap. I wouldn't want to live in this in California.
I wouldn't want to live in anything in California. That state is a shithole.
Ok... A stone bunker. with AC VENTS! ... Water Electric and Power... Boom!. Now instead of a house on your land you got a work space for W.e you do... like build your house back up ... the one that gets wrecked by tornados.
It may be tornado proof but it dam sure ain’t fire proof
Minecraft house be lyke.
After seeing what happened in Chicago.... 😰
Personally I don't think 8" of concrete alone translates to tornado "proof". Especially in an EF-5. Extremely resilient sure but I think I'd have added a steel skin kinda like his roof only thicker to protect the concrete itself from projetiles. A car, bus semi or a large tree would go right through that. Not to mention a direct hit from an EF-5 itself is like a giant grinder. I'd call this a tornado resistant home. An extremely extravagant one too. 😳 lol
If it can't destroy the house, it'd probably just rip it off its foundation and throw it.
lol this guy, dude4 it's a fkn bunker. 6 inches exterior concrete with rebar, 4 inches of closed cell foam and another two inches of interior concrete. All of that covered by a steel roof that you could drive a car on....
I’ll build with SIPs over this. Numerous SIP houses hit by tornados and hurricanes won the fight.
A more open interior makes it less resistant, especially to great pressure gradients.
This smells like a money grab.
I'm a finish carpenter, I'm telling you, that's too much wood grain slapping you in the face.
All I got from this was 2 layers of concrete, sheet metal roof. OK cool.
Just have insurance and build a storm cellar in the backyard??
Ya right.....smfh
Is it pest proof and fire proof? How?
It's concrete
How much did it cost?
800k
@@confederatejeb Damn!
It has windows. Not tornado proof
wrong. Rent a 7th grade education
Did you miss the part saying that it's concrete
@@ozarkscarguy540 even concrete fails against ef5s
Not a very welcoming place. Looks like something from the movie “Deliverance”. 😝
ya.. wood house will definitely be ok when hit by a tornado..lmfao
then you obviously didn't watch the video, its basically a concrete block, the inside is just for the looks.
@@AnDre-yu4po it still wouldn’t survive a direct hit from an EF5 tornado…get real
I’m sorry but that too much wood inside at least paint it white inside.
“It’s too cozy please make it more like an office building 🤤🤤🤤”
Right! Let's just cut a whole bunch of trees down, (for aesthetic purpose only) just to slap white paint on it. The color of every cheep ass apartment I've ever rented.
That just don't sound right to me partner.
That was just his preference you can design the inside to look more modern but nothing is ripping those walls down it could probably withstand a tank blast
After the white paint job, you can a C-ment floor and stainless steel furniture too.
@@chrislapp9468 the house looks unfinished they can at least add color for some contrast. It looks like a house still under construction that has bare walls rather then a finished house
Yeah and he used the wood just because?! Come on!!! Talk about selfishness and greed! Let's just chop down this tree because I feel like it, the house doesn't really need it though! 😂 80K for a mindset like that is money WASTED!
It's pretty though 👍😁
get lost hippie
800k you mean?
Concrete, is that much of a news?
