Unfortunately, it came to my attention that many companies have been taking discriminatory actions against people who suffer from anxiety and depression - some companies are strictly avoiding hiring people who might display these conditions because they don’t want the office to become a “therapy place”, not to mention several misconceptions about inclusion, socialization and the performance of such employees. I myself was let go from a job, after showing signs of depression. Truth is, our mental state is none of their business and we should be very aware of that not to let them get any clues or this could backfire. I’m sorry to hear about your struggles, I hope it’s nothing too serious. Get well!

As always, all of those tips are very helpful! One tip that I always found useful was the STAR method when asked a behavioural question(s), such as: "Tell us a time you faced a challenge/adapted to change"
I always use the STAR method to make an organized answer. STAR stands for: situation, task, action, and result. Through this you can give the interviewer a clearer picture of what you did to handle the problems.
Also, one video that I'd love to see is a networking etiquette video. Often, I found myself hesitating when joining a networking event, since I'm too "careful" of my behaviour and then I miss the opportunity to join in the conversation.
    Lots of love from Canada!

When asking about your limitation/weakness say something not related to the role. For example if the you are in an interview for an accounting role say that your weakness is in presentation skills. Avoid saying that your imitation its perfectionism.

I have done 2 internships in HR and I agree 💯 with each and every point in this video, HR's actually do check these points -Eye contact, hand movements and gestures while talking, dress code, carrying extra CV copies, overall hygiene, how confident you are while talking about what work you have done in your previous companies, how much understanding you have about the business the company is into for which you are being interviewed. I have seen people being outright rejected by my seniors just because they didn't carry a extra CV or were not dressed right or were good on paper but couldn't convey that during the interview.
Another really helpful video for people who are looking out for jobs.👍🏻

    • @niketarb
      @niketarb 3 года назад +1

Also I forgot adding one more point, the length of your CV shouldn't be more than 2 pages because lenghty CV's are a huge turn off to be honest.

This is really good advice. But it depends on the culture in every country. For example, where I live, there is a culture of corruption and ''who you know'/who you are related to' in order to get the job. I personally have 3 college degrees and speak 3 languages but I was never able to get a job (and I'm 36), because even in the private sector the rules mentioned above apply (private companies have a ''recommendations'' policy, meaning that if an employee refers a friend who is less qualified, that friend has a higher change of being employed that someone who is perfectly qualified but no one from the inside recommends them). However, I managed to create my own small business (I was forced, in order to survive) and I managed to live decently but I can't afford to buy a home, for instance (then again, not many people do). I like what I do, it's an intellectual job, and I won all my clients (companies) because I'm competent (I've never even met the people, we only talk by phone/email or PM software). No company would survive if it hired only incompetent people, someone has to actually work.

Great content as always, thank you, Jamila! 🙏
One thing I would definitely add: the most important thing at a job interview is to stay true to yourself. By all means, present the best version of yourself, but make sure what you present is still 100% you. If you pretend to be something you aren’t, sooner or later it will show, which only gives the impression of manipulation and dishonesty. The more you try to be something you aren’t, the more nervous you are going to feel and the less credible you are going to appear. And most importantly, it is everybody’s shared interest at the interview to find out if you and the role you’re applying for are a good match for each other. The company doesn’t want to hire someone based on a dishonest interview only for them to turn out to be unsuited for the job. And you don’t want be hired for a position based on a false persona you present only to find out it’s not suited for you and go to work feeling miserable every day.
Also, to avoid conundrums, don’t be afraid to send a polite email enquiring about dress code, and at the end of the interview feel free to ask about the team you are expecting to join, the everyday life and the culture of the company - these will be the factors impacting you personally and a job interview these days is as much about your finding out about your prospective employer as it is about their getting to know you.

Just like with dates, there is only one way you get good at the interviews - by having a lot of interviews. Good advice I heard before from many people is that before applying for a job you actually want, apply for some random jobs that you might end up taking, but you are not that interested in them. Rejection brings growth. The other important thing is that you actually interview the interviewer, in a sense that you don't accept the job if an interviewer is rude, condescending, with an attitude or something, because that is fairly good predictor of a bad work environment generally.

Thank yo for this video, it's useful and atemporal. There's always need to refresh this knowledge.
I knew that someone was asked for three contact numbers, either from colleagues or previous employers, so the company could know more about the applicant's profile and way of work. This person said: "Yes, I will happily send them over. Please, send in return three contact numbers from previous employees or people who were in the position I'm applying to, so I can know more about the company's internal dynamics".
I believe it was a great idea, however I'm not quite sure about the most elegant way of asking for this information, or if it's polite at all to do this.
Thank you again for sharing this video. Have a nice day!

His reply was quite creative and witty (perhaps) but I am not sure it is a great starting pointing for that person's relationship with his prospective employers. I would be rather careful with the humour and sarcasm when it comes to talking to your potential future colleagues.
It is, however, a standard practice of asking the contact information of former employers to learn about the applicant.

I've noticed that if a woman is beautiful (even without makeup) and the interviewer is also a woman , this causes jealousy and she might not get the job even if she is perfectly qualified. I've even had friends who lost their jobs due to the jealousy of an insecure coworker. I myself have lost a collaboraion - I'm a freelancer and I work with companies and when I went to hand in the invoice to one of my clients I was met by a woman project manager I had never met before, and she kept complimenting me on how thin I was and how nice my dress was but after that I never received work from them again, even though we had worked together for 4 years and we had a great collaboration.
Also, if you are too well prepared you might outshine the interviewers themselves and they won't like that if they're incompetent.

I understand what you mean. People are different but it always best to be over-prepared than underprepared. At the end of the day, your knowledge and good manners and soft skills will help you win over.
