Cirno has practically been the face of western Touhou memeposting ever since the era of youtube poops and it's over 9000 and etc, I'm surprised she's not higher if anything.
Well the western fan base is REALLY small, you are probably the largest “western” RUclipsr who actually is a fan of Touhou. As a result, most votes probably come from the eastern audience who isn’t as infatuated with Cirno as we are (sadge)

- Kutaka's popularity mainly comes from the Chinese MMD community. This is where many of those Kutaka GIFs come from (likely including the toothbrush GIF I showed).
- I...completely forgot that I made a campaign tweet for Eika (twitter.com/deltapie2/status/1571256055887441921). How does one forget such a thing? I don't know! Checking around now, at max it could've provided about a quarter of her additional votes, so there were still other factors involved.
- The Ground's Color is Yellow was arranged by U2 for Danmaku Kagura, and received an official extension this year
The reason that “The Ground’s Color is Yellow” went up so much is because U2 released an official extended version in Danmaku Kagura.
EDIT: Gensokyo Mystery Discovery got an arrange in Danmaku Kagura at launch a year earlier. So that’s likely why it jumped so much two years ago, and fell last year.
It's clearly because Scarlet Weather Rhapsody is epic.

While the character rankings are fun and all it's really cool to see that the fandom isn't greying. All these new people discovering touhou is really impressive.

As a younger, female Touhou fan that lives in North America(and ethnically European), I'm happy the fanbase in those categories are joining. Granted, I've also been in the fandom for longer(as I joined when I was very young), but this definitely isn't something to gatekeep. Go us, whatever category we share!
I'm pretty much always excited to see Touhou get more recognized, especially in the West. More youkai friends to play with!

Cool video! It's a pity I don't know English well enough to fully understand it. I've recently joined the touhou fandom, so far I'm going through EoSD, though I still like to listen to music more :) It would be necessary to participate in the 2023 questionnaire, for greater representativeness. _(sorry, the comment becomes more like some kind of disconnected stream of thoughts, i just don't know what i can write else)_

The Hifuus need a new story album soon, I need for them to get more attention because they're coollll. Also, I wish I knew where to listen to the Rainbow-Colored Septentrion, as far as I'm aware there's no uploads of the songs on RUclips (that could contribute to the CD not having much of an effect, maybe)
Also, an injustice on the popularity poll, at least to me, is that you can't vote for Rin Satsuki. Sure, she hasn't appeared in anything outside of the EoSD code, but for all intents and purposes, Rin Satsuki is a Touhou character, even if she's a scrapped one. Also, if Frontal Attack, despite being a lost song that was only partially found ~5 years ago, was on the popularity poll since at least 2008, then I feel it would only be fair for Rin Satsuki to be on the polls as well. Arguably (before the song was partially found) even more so, considering usually songs are liked for being listened to, which you can't really listen to a lost song. Meanwhile, with characters, they can be carried by fanon looks/personalities and such (like what has happened with Rin). Though, I don't mean to say Frontal Attack never deserved to be on the poll, it does, I just wish to say that if it could be on the poll even when it wasn't found, then Rin Satsuki should be on the poll despite having virtually no canon information known about her. Apologies for writing a maybe weird argumentative paragraph in the comments, I'm just an insane Rin Satsuki fan who wants to vote for her lol

12:55 The most underrated male character? There are quite a few possibilities there. Overall though id say that Taisui, Daikoku, Tenryu, and Iwakasa are the least appreciated among the fanbase despite all of them being absolute chads.

@@goldenrain4402Taisui is the final boss of both Hisoutensoku and Antimony of Common Flowers. He is a calamity God from Meiling’s dreams who is trying to destroy the world. During Hisoutensoku Meiling fights him as he controls minions with the forms of the people of gensokyo as well as a giant catfish. Then during AoCF he makes his way into the real world and tries to destroy it alongside dreamworld Tenshi.
Daikoku (also known as Okuninushi) was a human who helped Tewi during the whole shark incident, so she then hooked him up with princess Yagamihime. Then he got murdered by his brothers a few times over it and had to be resurrected by the Gods multiple times until they sent him to the storm god Susanoo for protection. He fell in love with Susanoo’s daughter and Sudanoo gave him a bunch of challenges to complete in order to marry her. The challenges were all rigged to kill him but the daughter helped him cheat his way through. Eventually they had to run away but Susanoo reluctantly changed his mind and allowed his daughter to marry Daikoku. He then even went so far as to grant Daikoku the title of ruler of the surface world. Even though he now had both a princess and a demi goddess, Daikoku wasn’t done. He then proceeded to go all around Japan and pick up more goddesses and princesses for his harem. Later though Susanoo’s sister Ameratsu decided that she wanted her own son Jimmu to rule over the surface instead. She then teamed up with the her brother Tsukuyomi who is the emperor of the lunar capital and together they successfully conquered Japan and instated Jimmu as the first Japanese emperor. Daikoku was then imprisoned by the lunarians and remains so to this day. Tewi found out about the lunarian traitors Kaguya and Eirin and teamed up with them in order to learn about lunarian society and technology so that she can one day free Daikoku.
Iwakasa was a general who was tasked with destroying the immortality elixer that Kaguya gave to the emperor. Mokou finds out that Kaguya gave some kind of mysterious gift to the emperor and sets out to steal it now that it is in transit. She stalks Iwakasa for several days until he gets tired of her attempts at stealth and just invites her to come with him. They make it to the top of the volcano and Iwakasa gets ready to throw the elixer in as ordered but gets stopped by Sakuyahime who warns him that throwing an immortality elixer into a volcano is a very bad idea, telling everyone that the mysterious box contained an immortality elixer. After that nobody knows what to do anymore and they all just wait there for several hours until Mokou eventually falls asleep. She then wakes up to find everyone dead, burned to a crisp, except for Iwakasa. Mokou thinks that Sakuyahime killed them all. Sakuyahime comes back and tells them of another mountain that they should go to, but on the way there Mokou pushes Iwakasa off a cliff, presumably killing him, and steals the elixer for herself. She drinks it and becomes immortal.

Taisui is the final boss of Hisoutensoku and Antimony of Common Flowers. Iwakasa is a main character in Cage in Lunatic Runagate chapter 4. Daikoku is mentioned in Silent Sinner but to get more context just look up the wikipedia article on Okuninushi.

@Delta Pie oh gotta mention for Megumu as well. There is actually an ongoing MMD series called Iizunamaru-Sama The Rampage, which is all about her desperately trying to get higher in the popularity poll by using various methods, usually abusing her authority over popular characters like Aya and Momiji, or dressing up, it gets ridiculous. It's at 15 right now, but it's been getting English subtitles on more and more of them.
Anyway, I thought it was funny because it's related and destined to fail.
