I took my daughter and her friend to the comic shop today. I got her Batman Year One by Frank Miller. She was so excited. She got herself Robin Tim Drake book. She says Tim Drake is her favorite. I didn’t have the heart to tell her how they are ruining him right now.
Good man... or woman
Get her the Robin Compendium when it comes out.
Reminds me of the meme of you can't handle the truth
Why don’t you buy her a girl comic .. like Gwen Pool??
@laverdadescatolica5 you sound like the dudebros that tried to make me read WW instead of Green Lantern when i was 13, because "these are the girls comics"
DC reboot again and again and again using the same people for over a decade now.
Time for real fans to take over
I don't understand all these people that insist on taking away Superman's humanity. it's not fucking interesting, and it's been done and parodied a million times. Marvel has like four Superman pastiches for Christ's sake
@vortechx7176
Indeed and even DC universe hates and disrespects Superman.
@@JoaquinGarces-mi9lz yup it's hard being a Superman fan nowadays
I always found it ironic how many people say they don’t like Superman because they can’t relate to him but yet he is the most “human” super hero at DC.
@@RamManNo1 it's also annoying when they call him boring because he's op but then turn around and praise characters like homelander and omniman or all the other Superman pastiches
Honestly, Scarlett and Destro are each a step down from Duke and Cobra Commander as characters before even getting into the quality of the books.
If they're so desperate to sell Scarlett that they have to tie in all the ninjas, why not skip the "white savior" trope and just have it be an Arishikage book starring Jinx?
I’m just so burnt out on DC. What’s the point in reading anything they publish when it all just gets rebooted in a few years anyway? No one knows what’s meant to be canon anymore and every relaunch of the DCU is headed by the same group of untalented leaders and awful writers. WB and DC just need to shut down the entire publishing line for a few years, have a complete clear out their writers and editors and have a set bible of characters and history of DC so new writers can work in those boundaries and we don’t get complete character annihilation.
I remember when Aaron had a fit when alan moore said there were no a-list writers...
Jason Aaron on Superman. Let hope Superman does not get The Punisher treatment
He kinda did with Bendis
Sounds like HORSESHIT. The Superman thing is the worst idea I have ever heard. Are they trying to copy Ultimate Spider-Man without understanding why it works?
I just hope they dont screw over Jeremy Adams again. I love his Green Lantern Run so far.
They should call it "Absolute Apathy"
If DC wants a rebooted universe so badly, dont let it have ties to the main DC Universe because ever since Post-Crisis, it has done nothing but backfire on the company a lot, and it needs to stop.
Jason Aaron on Supe... i'm fucking out of here.
In Scarlett #1 in the back Kelley ends her write up with Go Joe! Instead of Yo Joe!
I thought it might have been a typo, but now I'm not so sure.
Yup! I thought it was very telling.
Just like Hollywood, virtue signaling is more important than actually getting results. I have no fucking idea why.
Or they can get good women writers. They exist.
they aren't woke enough to be hired, deal with it - they hire only people who drunk on cat's masterpiss
Snyder’s Batman (and DC work in general) has been diminishing returns since the first Metal series.
Extreme cap
Snyder is probably the best Batman run of the last 20 years (way better than Grant Morrison.)
But his work since Rebirth at DC has ranged from mediocre (All Star Batman, Justice League) to bad (Metal, Death Metal, the omni-linear- whatever-verse status quo.)
Look this is my take.. I am not excited about the shuffling of writers. But this is a lot of fresh faces on new characters that they've never done. I trust the character of Superman in the hands of Jason. Aaron, who wrote the best Thor story I've ever read. I am very excited to see what DC is doing. You have to change the characters up and you have to give them fresh stories. When you take a character that is over 100 years old and you have told stories involving that character over and over again, it is hard to create something fresh without eventually changing up the character in some way. Can we at least wait and see what DC does before we s*** all over it?
Jokes on DC, I wasn't going to order any of this under any circumstances anyway.
Fix the regular books before you start doing this unimportant bs nobody wants.
If they make a couple more characters gay, that might help sales.
Dude why are they always giving women characters girl writers? If we're being honest wonder woman is written better by men cause they don't focus on some dumb patriarchal bullshit.
Yeah, Wonder Woman is super boring when written by women
Tom King is not a woman and this is literally the worst WW I've ever read
@@chachi_arcolaTom King wants to be a woman.
Gender does not matter. Talent does. DC just doesn’t have any talented writers of either gender.
George Perez, Bill Loebs, John Byrne, Phil Jimenez, and Greg Rucka
I wonder if it's intentional that this next run is called "Absolute Power" and yet it's paired with an image of their most powerful icon in the most powerless state possible, the flying Man of Steel wounded and in freefall.
Everytime I see it it the thought comes up "it's probably intentional and someone thought they were very clever when they came up with idea to call the run where everyone loses their powers or special abilities as absolute power" "Absolute Coup d’état" would've been more like it.
I've been going back to my mid eighties comics of the Justice League Of America "Detroit Team". People really hated it at the time but those stories and characters (even Vibe) are far better than what DC puts out now.
Vibe Gypsy Vixen and Steele were awesome well developed characters. That’s because Jerry Conway was a fan of the comic industry and actually knew how to write a comic book. Modern writers are lazy af!!!! Why should I pay $5 for something that takes me 5 minutes to read. They literally don’t know how to use words to tell stories and enrich the story. What used to be done in one book is now drawn out to 6-12 books and they call it “decompression” but it’s really just dead space by lazy hack writers who just tell the artist to draw pretty pictures.
This failed before it even launched
None of these announcements are exciting, but each one has potential. I'll give these a chance but I'm not getting my hopes up
Thanks, Wes. Loved the show. Sorry I couldn't get through the review of "The Acolyte", to be honest I'm just tired of Disney's space movies/shows. I still gave the video a thumbs up.
What about Waid and Mora on JLA ? There were some rumours some time ago. Will this be main or absolute?
I thought the Absolute run was supposed to be a new "Ultimate" style take on DC, which I would have been interested. After reading the FCBD issue though it seems like it is just a new "status queue" reboot of the main DC Universe? Either way I'm out.
Awesome work mate
I have so far read Ground Zero...it was fine. Williamson's Green Arrow Tie-In was better. I have no interest in Absolute Universe. Give me more Mad Ghost and Energon Universe over at Image please!
How about Absolute Comics, so they can promote it as AC/DC? lol
Haha; yeah, right?! 😀
WW as an adventurer already happened with Cloonrad which ended up being a terrible run and the only reason Scarlet is considered successful is because of the work other people have put into that universe. Thompson is just diluting the brand.
Now you dont get to pull this off when your staring down Public Domain Golden Age Heroes in a Decade. Which is dancing at the Far Back of this initiative.
Lex Luthor: Bartender, pour me a glass of DC Absolut Vodka.
Amanda Waller: Please don't make the same embarrassing mistake, Lex.
I know this isn’t a topic on this video but I Just got a good look at that new Superman costume. It sucks. Way too much paneling. It’s like they took the last costume from Lois and Superman and exaggerated it.
I said it before and I'll say it again. This is what happens when you let actual talent go (Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, etc) and replace them with people that shouldn't be writing comic books in the first place. These people can't write a story if their lives depended on it so they replace a plot with their political views thinking it will excuse it and they don't know the character's lore so they insert themselves through the character's eyes. So when it of course fails and they'll end up calling the fans 'toxic'
The Energon-Verse is easily the best reads in Comic Books right now but Scarlett felt off. I prefer Scarlett's Character over Destro (Jinx is my favorite GI JOE Heroine) but the Scarlett Book didn't deliver. Destro's on the other hand surprisingly was awesome
I used to be a big fan of Snyder, but after hearing how he’s a massive coward it’s kind of soured me a bit on him, if I was reading comics I’d probably still buy his comics once they’re good. But isn’t Thompson terrible, what are they doing getting this comic?
We know DC ABSOLUTE is in trouble because I didn’t get a phone call. 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great review !
Instead of a reboot again, how about relaunching some books not out now. Like The Legion, etc
Snyder is the only name I have even a mild interest in reading. The other two are instant "pass" whenever I see their names on a cover of a comic. This idea that only a specific gender can write a comic (depending if the main character is male or female) is ludicrous. Any good writer can write either sex. Just being the same gender as the main character doesn't make the writing good.
This is going to be over before it even starts.
Ideally I would love to read a DC book(s) by a female writer(s) who actually read a few DC books, understands the character, & respects the importance of continuity. DC editorial doesn’t want that person. They would rather hire someone who they know is a poor writer but familiar than take a chance on a fresh face. This reminded me of Joe Quesada’s guest spot on Kevin Smith’s podcast where Marvel pre-Marvel Knights was re-cycling same bad writers and not trying anyone new until they went chapter 11. It’s not gonna surprise me when DC is whittled down to just 12 titles. Marvel without the movies is in just as bad a shape.
You can’t shine shit as my grandpa used to say.
I’m pleased with all these books and creators.
I wonder if DC is making more profit by printing and reprinting their line of Absolute, Omnibuses, compendiums and Deluxe editions than these recent monthly gobbledygook? In fact, they will be probably be making more profit with the DC Finest collections.
I'm fine with these concepts for Absolute (Universe?) It's the execution that matters to me. But, ultimately, the art is what matters to me more than the writing. I'll make my decision to read once I find out which artists are going to be on these books.

It's so disheartening, seeing DC go down, like this. No excitement, at all, even from a long time DC fan. Starting a new initiative, putting subpar writers on the roster, still, and we're supposed to believe this'll be good reading? And knowing DC, EVEN IT IT HAPPENS TO BE GOOD, it'll follow the same pattern.
- 1 to 6 issues might be okay. Not awful or offensive, and remind you of when comics were good.
- Huge drop off, in quality, either due to new creative team, or the same one, just burned out, they've exhausted their one good idea
-Title will be handed to a wannabe activist, who finally kills the whole idea, and it fades away
They've got no, new tricks, they look to Marvel, who has no good ideas, either, and they fail, spectacularly. A lot of people have said that WBD should just pause all of it, in time to empty out the comic division, fire anyone who's been on the pseudo activist program, or just such a massive ego, that characters themselves are secondary, and come back with something new, that doesn't resemble what DC has been, for almost the last decade and half.
The thing about comic universes is, some people see it as bad, or played out, but I love that the DCU is a universe, that different characters can show up at another's wedding, that they can join in on adventures, with all of the past experiences in play. If Batman and Green Arrow meet up, what's happening in their solo books plays a part. I love that. But it comes with a drawback. If the universe, as a whole, is trash, nevermind the occasional decent book, sneaking by. If I'm liking a Superman book, the moment I look at the DCU, around him, I get terribly written, agenda filled trash, insufferable, useless characters, and events that are boring, at best. There's no turning back, unless they do something drastic. Erase all the nonsense, the gay retcons, the genre shifts, the damage done, to so many characters, and fire everyone who either wrote it, or stood around, while they all poured gasoline, on the DCU.
Why do expect different results when the exact same people that catered the dc universe in chargeof the reboot
Who asked for a new universe?DC should fix the problems of continuity of your main universe instead to built your own Ultimate universe.Jason Aaron sucks so much, he wrote a terrible run in Avengers and ruined the Punisher in Marvel. I stopped buying modern DC books years ago since Rebirh and I don't think in give a new chance again because things like that. DC is doomed to repeat the same past mistakes forever.
@EvandroACruz
Because I think the whole reason they're doing their own ultimate universe is because the writers at DC are incapable of bringing anything new to the table when it comes to the main universe
This has been one of the biggest problems over at marvel and why many readers/fans are reading the new ultimate universe of comics as opposed to the main continuity 616 comics
Because for the past decade and a half the main 616 marvel comics have been pretty bad
So DC comics are trying to start over and start fresh, they have seen the success that marvel has had with the new ultimate universe and want to replicate that same success with their own absolute universe as a way of bringing in both old and new readers/fans 🤷♂️
If you can't bring in old and new fans/readers to care about the main universes of their comics, just create a new universe/continuity.
@EvandroACruz
Because look at marvel comics in the early 2000s and why the original ultimate universe was created
Low comic book sales and lack of interest in 616 due to all of the poor decisions/choices in the 90s and also because marvel was literally going bankrupt
The ultimate line of marvel comics was the only way for them to make back the money that they had lost in the 90s and it was a success... At first
Than cracks started to form later on in the mid-to-late 2000s as the quality of the ultimates and ultimate X-Men had both fallen off in terms of quality writing and the characterizations of the characters was completely off with a lot of the characters coming across as unlikable and acted more like villains then actual superheroes (coming more across like super jerks)
The only books that were semi good were ultimate Spider-Man and ultimate fantastic four and in the case of the former fell off in its second VOL that had a lot of really weird decisions such as Peter breaking up with MJ to be with the clone Carnage Gwen Stacy 😵💫
Generally speaking the original ultimate universe was a complete mess and even when it had its reboot with a new writing team and Jonathan Hickman overseen a lot of the writing and creative decisions
A lot of fans/readers had just lost interest in the ultimate universe as a whole after the disaster that was ultimatum
DC absolute universe wants to take some of its writing cues from the new ultimate marvel BUT some of the creative decisions are very questionable and really do not make sense with the original characterization of the characters from the main new Earth continuity.
@EvandroACruz
Some of the concepts/ideas for some of the absolute power comics are very weird and sound very off from the original portrayals/characterizations of the characters 🤷♂️
A Bruce Wayne/Batman who isn't a billionaire and is instead an athletic young man. Even if he's still loses his parents who are probably upper-middle-class to crime or in a shocking twist both Martha and Thomas Wayne actually survived and it is instead a Bruce Wayne who becomes Batman with none of the trauma/tragedy of the main new Earth continuity Bruce Wayne. The whole reason that this version of Bruce even chooses to fight crime is because he sees how crime ridden and corrupt Gotham City is and chooses to do something about it. This idea for Batman doesn't sound too far out of place from that Darren aronofsky Batman year One script from the 2000s that had a Bruce Wayne who wasn't a billionaire and was instead a mechanic working out of a garage and becomes a vigilante
Absolute power Superman
this one sounds like it has more in common with a modern cartoon show, a Kal-El who is sent to Earth a lot later and is a 18/19 year old adult rather than a infant. must navigate how different Earth is compared to his homeworld Krypton and learn what it is to be human. The Kent's will probably be reimagined as a sort-of found family that take in this young man who is far from home, because they are a kind family living in Smallville and that they will help anyone. Clark will have to adopt to Earth customs and have a secret identity but is very bad at keeping a low profile. Which will then probably lead to the absolute universe versions of Lois and Jimmy finding out Clark's identity right off the bat rather than it taking years for them to find out. Since every version of Superman pretty much has the characters immediately find out Clark's secret identity. The found family trope is very obvious from the get-go and will probably be the main theme of the comic. A very fish out of water Superman
Absolute universe Wonder Woman. In concept this sounds very interesting and is a lot better than the current Tom King WW comic run. Diana being reimagined as a TR/Indiana Jones type of character and retrieving a lot of ancient artifacts from around the world etc
Some of these concepts are interesting... But feel like they should be done with original characters then pre-existing ones like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman
But I guess in the minds of the writers at DC comics they don't know how to create or write original characters without making them come across like carbon copies of The originals or Gary/Mary Sues.
@@naquangreen2192 Dc should stop in try to be like Marvel in my opinion.
@@EvandroACruz
Their main continuity is such a mess at this point that they're only bright new idea is to just create a new universe. Because they are incapable of making the main new Earth continuity interesting and compelling
Ever since the end of DC Rebirth, but since the new 52 reboot DC comics has been a complete mess and they've tried/struggled to fix the problem that they themselves created 😒
When all else fails just create a new universe, because it's the same thing as an elseworlds and it will somehow get new readers.

I have a feeling this is going to build towards some mega cross over next summer. Lame.
Who's going to win most promotion of agendas of 2024 Disney or Warner?😂
After watching the hype video , it sounds like it’s going to be like Marvels Ultimate. So it’s a new universe completely.
I have Absolutely no interest in DC or Marvel's out-of-continuity alternative takes on their heroes. I've been invested in their continuity for so many years and I would buy more books if they would spend more time focussing on them and making more of them great reads!
Until they change out the editorial staff DC will continue to spin their wheels. Jim Lee needs to return drawing and people who understand writing need to take over. Then reboot and forget any changes or alterations to characters personalities from the past 5 years . If they don't change course both Marvel and DC are doomed. I don't want to see that.
If they wanted a good female writer they shouldn't have treated Mairghread Scott the way they did. Her Batgirl run was great.
I started to collect silver comics instead XD 🤣
Then hire me! Or hire one of my friends. (Actually don't hire me.) If a woman must be hired I can list a bunch of pro novel writers and fans and a couple might not even be conservatarians.

The sad thing: I just don't care. I'm so tired of DC Comics that I couldn't care less. They can do Absolute Death Metal Crisis Reboot! And I won't care and I won't be buying it. DC has been horribly off track since the New 52 started. It was a reboot that was probably due, but was horribly done. And they haven't fixed it and I'm just kind of past the point of caring. Rebirth was a kind of fix and I was kind of onboard. Honestly, they would have been better off just having the universe reset to right before New 52. But at least Rebirth was a good bandage. But since, they've done that Metal and Death Metal crap. Yawn. Dark Crisis. Yawn. Everything is canon. BIG YAWN! I just don't care anymore. I just read the handful of Marvel Comics I pick up and the occasional Indy. I'm done with DC. Which is sad, because right about the time Metal ended, I was all-in for the New Heroes of DC. But, they've fooled me too many times. I don't even have a local comic shop anymore thanks to stupidity from Marvel and DC. So, the only shock I could see that might make me take notice is if there were news DC was going on indefinite hiatus.

They can clearly find a writer that knows the lore and loves the characters and would definitely be the best man for the job. So of course we don’t get the best, cause of DEI and diversity we get kelly thomson who probably knows very little about gi joe, but she’s a woman so she gets a job that 20 dudes who know all the lore and the characters should’ve gotten
