6 weeks maternity leave is inhumane for Mum and bub. I was lucky enough to have 6months (Australia) paid mat leave and I felt that wasn’t enough time. 12 months is ideal. Bub in daycare since 6 months and has been sick most weeks. Everything from covid to hand, foot and mouth and many trips to hospital. Good luck to all the new mum’s out there 💜
I was able to take 15 weeks and it still felt Waay too soon 😥 luckily just back 4 days a week and Dad is looking after Bubba at home 💜 would have struggled So much more if had to go into daycare at that point
In California, you get paid leave for 4 weeks before your due date, then 6 or 8 weeks after birth depending on vaginal or cesarean birth, and then an additional 8 weeks paid leave after that. This is if you have worked for your employer for at least 1 year full time or a specific number of hours. Paternity leave is paid for 8 weeks at any point in the first year of the baby's life. The pay is roughly 80% of your usual pay or around $1500/week, whichever is less. Though the amount per week is going to increase in 2023. But if you're like me and starting the 4 weeks in December, you're locked in for the 2022 rate. You can supplement with sick leave if you have the time available.
I'm going to give the standard Canadian comment..."holy crap I couldn't imagine having to go back to work at 6 weeks!!!" My baby was so little at 6 weeks:( I'm mentally trying to get my head around going back to work at putting my baby in daycare at almost 14 months. I'm scared of all the illnesses going around in the winter and my baby has all of her first year shots, two flu shots and both covid shots. Always thinking about my American counterparts who don't have the long paid maturity leave with job security. You women are way stronger than me.
I agree! I am also in Canada and I have a couple months left of my leave and even a year didn't feel long enough! Next baby I am taking 18 months. 6 weeks leave is just cruel
It's not strength :( it's doing what you have to to survive. Sitting here with my 2 week old snoozing on my chest. We're going to be interviewing nannies next month because it makes it a bit easier. Plus the cost of a nanny is about the same as putting them both in daycare anyways.
@Kimora Jaed I'm sorry to hear that. All Canadian moms feel for our southern counterparts. I will say with a baby in daycare now, I do really cherish the morning and evenings with my daughter. Plus I'm thrilled to jump out of bed the second she needs me. Despite being away from her all day, she knows who her mommy is, and that never changes. Enjoy your newborn. They are so sweet at that age, despite the lack of sleep and crazy hormones:)
Do you think AAP *should* have a recommendation for maternity/paternity leave? Would that help the US or states or businesses formulate their leave policies? From what I understand the AAP recommendation on room sharing for first 6 months is to encourage breastfeeding but I think maternity leave is much more important to support breastfeeding than room sharing.
Why don't doctors say that anyways condoms are the best contraception. Like mom has already gone through so much and still going through. So this is least that must be done.

I’m worried that my 9 month old hasn’t had enough exposure to the typical childhood viruses yet because he’s mostly at home and hasn’t been sick, but I’m also worried about Covid, RSV, or the flu this winter. I am Swedish born. In my home country we are getting 15 months paid maternity leave. In my mothers generation there is a recommendation to not put the children into childcare until 2 years old. I am a mama to a newborn living in Spain (where we are having 4 months maternity leave) I will be a staying at home mom with Máxime:) I am keeping life more simple to fully experience it with him and my beloved ones. As long as you are truthful to yourself, your child will follow.
Hi there! Could you talk about managing and caring for umbilical hernias? Our pediatrician said our 2 month old has one at his last visit but she also said it was super common. He’s had an inguinal hernia too (which he had to get surgery for) so were feeling a little extra nervous!
My son had an umbilical hernia that was exacerbated by crying. His belly button eventually stopped popping out once he got some tone to his body around 4 months.
I went with the skyla bc I knew I’d be too exhausted to remember to take a pill everyday 🥱 Sometimes I feel like I can feel it, am I crazy? It’ll feel like a sudden jab.

Baby is grunting/straining all the time, and his inflamed belly is not helping. I would love any advice I can get on how to help my baby. Online it says that dyschesia will pass in 1-2 weeks, but it's been there since week 2 (we are now at week 7). Thanks!
It must be in industry, but I never had been offered a maternity leave anywhere i worked in usa. I was lucky that my employer was so patient in my time in clocking in etc and not changing my pay, but that's rare from what ive seen
My little boy is 9 months, soon he will have MMR injunction. I am really scared about it due complications and side effects. Apparently MMR has no connections with autism but my neighbours doughter was 100% ok and after mmr alshe was diagnosed with autism. Please help as I don't know what to do 🙈
it's a common coincidence. signs of autism begin showing around the same age as the MMR vaccine is recommended, so some parents have falsely named the vaccine as a cause when in reality that's when autistic children begin showing signs regardless of vaccination. even if it did cause autism, as an autistic person I'd much rather be autistic than have suffered diseases as a baby 👍

Thankyou for mentioning this I thought my only option was condoms (which I hate). 4 months postpartum exclusively breastfeeding so defs not keen on disrupting supply, my OB here did not mention other Pill options annoyingly
I started taking the combo pill again 6 weeks postpartum and it significantly reduced my supply. I got on the mini pill and my supply came back, however it is required to take it the exact same time each day for it to be effective
