I am in the middle of sleep training to my 6 month old and have an attached toddler to me, I am glad I found you, it makes me feel at least not alone and also now I am sure that I am in a correct direction ❤
Canadian mama here! My family doctor gave me our province’s infant health handout regarding nutrition. It recommends breastfeeding for the first 2 years of life! (Solids introduction at 6 months but continue giving breast milk for 18 more months). I go back to work at 12 months so I am not sure what I plan on doing (my baby was born at the tail end of December) but I just wanted to share that it is not encouraged (at least in my province - BC) to quit breastfeeding earlier!!
Hey! I was wondering if you would consider doing a video on cold sores in babies? My 7 week old got the virus from a kiss on the top of the head and baby will be in the hospital for at least a week on IV antivirals. I had no idea HSV-1 could spread this way. I think a lot of people are unaware how dangerous this virus is for young babies. Hoping to increase awareness so other parents don’t have to go through what we are.
Can you do a video on how long to wait to get pregnant again after giving birth, like what's the bare minimum and if you're older and your fertility window is shorter how do you decide when is the best time to try for baby #2? Maybe talk about birth control methods post-birth too? Thanks!
What a great resource this is!!! So wish it would have been available 30 years ago😂! Although not sure there is much advice to be had when we had 4 under 4 for 6 months 😅. They all survived.
Hi Dr.’s first of all I love your blogs as I said before I am recently new to your blogs as a former childcare provider, both in a daycare, setting & as a private nanny. I highly recommend that the parents start their babies on bottles if they are exclusively breast-feeding. I recommend that someone other than the mother gives the baby a bottle and starc the transition at least a month prior to going into daycare setting. There is nothing more sad to see a baby refusing a bottle because they’re not used to it. It’s very frustrating on the baby and it makes me as a childcare provider that the baby won’t eat
I have watch your videos since my huz & I first started to try for a baby and have enjoyed being on this journey with you and appreciate all the great advice. We are just about ready to start trying for baby #2 and so excited!
Literally loled at the baby crack comment🤣 So true though! Some shows are wayyy too stimulating! Would love for you to share what your fave/least stimulating shows are for toddlers.
Love your videos! Hope to see your updates soon. We have a toddler and expecting our second in a few weeks. We are ready to hire some helpers this time as we have no family around. In your experience what kind of help/outsourcing is worth it? Thanks in advance!
See I’m the opposite in that I found the transition from 1 to 2 way easier than 0 to 1. Granted my first was a difficult baby (wouldn’t eat enough for a while which complicated everything else) and she was also 5 when this little guy was born. Love the gap!! Wasn’t planned but it’s been phenomenal so waiting is another option.
I'm expecting in June and have been looking for guidance on what I can do or should avoid in the first few months, but most resources are outdated and flooded with Covid-19 recommendations of not going out, not having visitors, being a shut in, etc. It would be great to have an updated video on guidelines around how to keep baby safe and healthy considering that they're newborns but also considering that we're post global-emergency levels of covid. Example questions: how long to wait before visitors? When can I start taking baby out for visits or outings? It's fine if the recommendations are still the same. I guess I'm just curious if things have changed yet.
I would also love to hear their updated answer! With that said, I delivered in Dec of '22, here's my experience. When it comes to how long to wait until visitors, that's entirely up to you. As long as they're healthy (not sick, haven't been sick or around anyone germy), emphasis on hand hygiene, I wouldn't be super concerned. I stayed with my parents after giving birth for almost 2 weeks and my daughter didn't have any issues. We also had close friends visit and hold her. Granted, at the time, our circle was already pretty small as we were trying to limit exposure. Again with the outings, whenever you feel comfortable. If it was outdoors, or I had my daughter in her carrier (during shopping), I was comfortable. Mama instincts / anxiety kept me home more often than not. I think generally most pediatricians would agree. Best of luck to you and your family!
We have 2 kids, after the first few months it really started to be easier than having only one, because they keep each other company, and play with each other so they are less likely to come ask me to play with them, and I have more time for errands while they are playing.
as a former daycare provider i agree that dropping your child off and leaving is the best plan, also if you are starting daycare with an infant get that baby used to sleeping in their crib as we are not allowed to let them sleep anywhere other then a crib per safe sleep guidelines. and I suggest trying to make the amount of time you are holding them through out the day for shorter amounts of time, because as much as we love your kiddo we have a lot of children to take care of so we cant hold just them all day. I found that parents who were able to bring their kids in for a few hours a day and slowly transition for a full day their children have a much easier transition.
Hi! Video request for when you have time (hah!): red flags to look out for for less common but not unlikely health issues during pregnancy. In my case specifically, I developed cholestasis in week 35, and only figured out I should go to my obgyn about it after a week of intense nighttime itching (thought it might be some weird allergy at first, took multiple showers etc) - despite all the videos I had watched and info I had read beforehand, nighttime itches had never been mentioned anywhere (also didn't have any issues with GD, BP, etc), so I had no clue this could be important... We ended up with a C-section at 38 weeks after multiple days of useless induction - luckily, baby was born strong and healthy, but even once I knew what cholestasis was, I had no idea what to expect during the induction process (eg didn't realize they wouldn't let me leave any CTG until baby was awake for 30mins, but baby loved sleeping, so I was exhausted from multiple CTGs daily, each lasting hours at a time, before I figured out I had to actively wake her for me to be released to our room and be able to try to actually sleep...). Knowing beforehand would've been SO helpful. So either a video about red flags to watch out for in general, or one specifically about cholestasis, might really help out someone else out there! Also, just a question - from what I understand natural labour progresses regardless of the mom's condition, but is it possible that an early induction just wouldn't work if the mom was bone-deep exhausted?
Thank you Drs.. your videos are so helpful!! Saw posts online about pelvic floor physical therapy and pelvic prolapse. How common is pelvic prolapse issues after vaginal birth? Can anything be done to prevent situations like this?
Thanks for the updates! Love your story🥰 I saw on your instagram that u have/had 2 doggos… could you please share some Tipps about how to managed everything with them? Bringing 1 and 2 baby home, postpartum, etc? That would be really really amazing!❤❤ Greetings from Germany 🙌🏽🥳
When vacay is over, can you talk about amniotic band syndrome? I had it with my second pregnancy, but the bands didn't form til I was in the late 2nd trimester/early third trimester and thankfully nothing came of it. But I'm still wondering what may have been the cause and how to maybe prevent that in future pregnancies. Thanks!
Are the wake window recommendations evidence -based? Seems like systems around how to control them/use them to train newborns to sleep more predictably/nap longer is a recent hype as it’s all over social media. But I question the science behind it and whether it is good for moms to even refer to a wake window table that seems to be just simple averages…
Our 20 month old has recently started waking up after 30 minutes of napping, and screaming and becoming frantic and it can take half an hour to calm hi m down, any advice?
I’m confused when people say fuss, cry, and scream… my baby will cry to scream if we don’t get him at night for food and he’s almost 7 months :( I’ve tried to let him cry and he went 30 minutes still level 10 screaming… no idea what to do but I’m breaking inside bc it’s 7 months of never sleeping through the night
Pushing back the middle of the night feeds can be challenging. Some things that were helpful to us: 1.) make sure to feed a lot and often during the day. Baby needs ~30oz every 24hrs. If they don’t get enough during daytime hours, they will need to eat at night. 2.) start by pushing nighttime feed back by 10-15 minutes every night. For us, this was much easier accomplished by dad rocking and bouncing and walking with baby - if mom tried, the easy access to the boobs for baby was just too much. Little by little, baby should be able to space the nighttime feeds until it’s no longer necessary
@@TheDoctorsBjorkman thank you! We have been offering 6-8 ounces during the day for milk and cereal/solids 3 times a day too to get more calories in but baby is usually eating 18 ounces at night still… he is a super healthy and happy guy but it’s been so hard to sleep train when we know he will easily drink 8 ounces quickly and try to go back to sleep instead of all of us awake for 40 minutes and an angry baby. We tried cereal in the formula twice and no better results either so we stopped that.
My baby is "a grazer" (as my pead call her) she eats all the time. I started to give her formula during the night. (A formula that can be kept 24 hours before discarding) And I leave the bottle in her crib, and I use to help her get the bottle, or give her the bottle first before I picked her up and soothed her. Now (few months later) I sleep through... she sort of does. She will be half awake, get her bottle, drink, and fall back asleep.
Why is there no limit age where breastfeeding would detrimental to the child's psychological wellbeing? Why isn't there an exact age which would medically advised against it, yet socially more than a year old its taboo let alone 2 yrs of age...
@@MegaTelenovela at this age babies are old enough to fully depend on solid food and are emotionally ready for this too, so it's a good sweet spot to wean off. Also continuing more than 2 years would be much more difficult for mom also.
