    I will add a little in terms of ergonomics. As the owner of a small digital studio, who pays for the equipment out of his own pocket, perhaps my information will be useful for someone. I will not try to convince you or impose my opinion, it is just information.
    1. Screen tablets. Anything less than 20 inches is a toy. They can be used, in particular, a very good 15.6-inch screen tablet from the XP-Pen. But they are not convenient. The screen size is 20+ inches. The price, i.e. they are expensive, take up a lot of space. This means that the monitor will stand on the very edge of the table, the keyboard will move to your lap (no matter how many buttons on the monitor they still will not be enough), if the keyboard is wired, the wire may not be enough, we buy either a wireless keyboard or buy a cord of the desired length. Regardless of the manufacturer and the presence of film on the screen will be glare, it is difficult to work with dark tones. Due to the fact that he stands on the edge of the table, you will be hammering your eyes directly into the monitor. Your hand will always be in the hanging position. Your brush will cover part of your drawing. And most importantly, you will need a high-quality expensive gaming chair so that your back does not fail, even if you are young.
    2. Tablets without a screen. Do not buy small, junior models. They are suitable for photo retouching, but not for drawing due to the area. Don't overpay for Wacom. 5-10 years ago, there was no alternative. But now Hayon and XP-Pen make devices that are not inferior to Wacom. Even if you do not like them, $ 100-200 will not bankrupt you, and you will always have a spare tablet. Understand, a good monitor (not the best and not the most expensive) and a simple tablet is better than an on-screen tablet. And with the money saved, it is better to buy up to 32 + GB of memory and a fast SSD drive. It takes up little space, is easy to connect, your hand is on the table and does not block your drawing, you can sit comfortably and the vast majority of famous digital artists draw on tablets.

      Thank you for sharing your feedback ! I wish the money saving and choice of brands was the same on GNU/Linux; right now, it require to know what model are working/supported and the list is not that long :-)

      @@DavidRevoy Hello David, I have wacom Intuos 4 L, XP-Pen artist 13 pro and GAOMON S620, all of them work on Linux without any problem.
      I am not an artist, but I like to draw.
      I thought that I was used to drawing on a regular tablet, in general it is convenient when there are several large monitors. But, everything changed with the purchase of a screen tablet (13.3 inch), it turned out that drawing in the traditional style is much more convenient for me and much more pleasant.
      Another plus of a small screen tablet - after work, you can change position, move away from the computer and settle in another place for drawing, the main thing is that the length of the wire is sufficient

    En tous cas, merci pour cette vidéo et pour ton avis sur les multiples tablettes que tu as pu utiliser au cours de ta carrière.

    I have 15.6 inch Chinese screen monitor Gaomon pd1560 which has a bit wrong color scheme (blue is a bit purple and other color are different too) and I can’t 100% tune it to look it the same as my monitor. Parallax is quite big. So, I use wacom intuos M tablet and Krita when painting on desktop. But in general I prefer painting on iPad Pro.

    I have the same feeling, I use a Intuos 5 for most of my stuff, as it is just more comfortable than working hunched over a screen. When I want to do more freehand stuff, I sometimes use an iPad Pro. I never really liked the Cintiq 13hd, as I felt the screen size was awkward, and it tried my eyes much more than an ipad does.

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  3 года назад +7

      Yes, it took me time to adopt the Cintiq13HD for something; the parralax is big (nothing compare to how it was on 21UX and 12WD were it was marketed at that time "like on paper", lol); IPads really made a beautifull drawing device; I tested it time to time; at friend's house. But I'm too stuborn with my idea of making all with 100% Free/Libre and Open Source Software that it's a toy I never considered to buy. I should watch if Linux can be installed on them and if the pen support is good; I saw many one on the second hand market and it's not that expensive anymore once used. Thank you for the feedback!

    I have the Wacom studio pro and the Intuos small and medium. I do not use the studio as much as I had hoped to, mainly the size. is too small. I have my intuos's both connected but mapped to different monitors. So I put my dockers on one and the canvas on the other without needing to switch to the mouse. I tried it with just one tablet and mapped to both monitors but I had a hard time gauging the lines. a little horizontal movement made a long line compared to the same size vertical movement.

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  3 года назад +1

      Oh, that's the first time I read about a dual tablets for two monitor; that's smart; especially because they are probably both using the same stylus in your case, so you benefit really of a larger surface. Here my big tablet (Intuos4XL) is mapped to only my main monitor (a 27'inch 2560x1440 pixels) ; to access the second monitor on right; I use my mouse. Krita has a lot of panels but I can manage them on the QuadHD with ease. When I work on the Cintiq13HD; as you can see on the video, I use TAB a lot, and my operating system top bar is mini and float over Krita to grab a little bit of vertical space. I wish Layer management was available on the top toolbar sometime ^ _ ^

    I don't see it asked here, do you use a screen protector for the cintiq?

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  3 года назад

      I scratched accidentaly my first 12WX (with a dust in the air just getting accidentaly around the stylus tip while drawing, probably metalic or stone particle). I was furious. So after, when I purchased my Cintiq21UX, I took a protector for it (it wasn't cheap, I probably paid almost 80€ for it) But I was really disapointed with the plastic and lack of texture. So, I removed it (even if it was a pain to put on it) and for the Cintiq I bought after that, I just took care of dusting of the surface with a little fabric I have always around. The built-in texture feels just good as it is. Also, replacing tip often helps (when they are flat, they scratch more, and so more risk)

    you do know that you can use your cintiq like a tablet and look at your monitor while drawing on it so that you can use it the same ways as your intuos?!

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  3 года назад +4

      Yes, of course. But my 27inch is a 2560x1440 pixels monitor, it's too large to fit the 1920x1080 pixels screen of the Cintiq13HD (I tried Xorg fractional scaling to make a virtual scaling down adjustment, but it is then too small and a bit blury...). Also, the active surface of the 13HD; less than 30cm large is not precise enough for the 27inch monitor (for my taste). I need minimum 40cm large active surface :D Maybe one day, I'll find a flat Cintiq with 40cm large and quadHD , not warming too much and a good cable management. But so far, this product doesn't exist ^__^

      @@DavidRevoy dude, he is talking how you can use cintiq as intuos i.e screenless tablet. You wont be looking at cintiq even though it has screen as you are using it as screenless tablet.
      You connect 13hd to pc, however instead of its screen you look at your monitor but draw on cintiq as you would do if you had intuos.

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  2 года назад

      @@doaflamingo3713 Yes, and I replied about that (I tried this usage for long). But a small Cintiq (13HD here) doesn't have an active surface enough big to draw comfortably when it is mapped to my external 27inch /QuadHD monitor. That's what I'm answering; if one wants to draw/ink with a non-display-tablet; better to be large enough so the finger/wrist/shoulder mouvement can be reproduced on screen without being gigantic.
