police are making money because the minute you accept the "privilege" of a licence, you've also signed a contract with the government to pay taxes, licensing fees, and any sort of extortion that they choose to hold you accountable for. we are ALL being manipulated with "guilt by absentia" every time we "forget" a court date or fail to clear the snow off of the license plate.
If you correct your signature on your Driver's license to be for a private use, instead of a public use, you can make any ticket go away. Any agreement you sign, ownerships, and other public offers(insurance) where you are the only one signing it can be corrected by adding"without prejudice" above or before your autograph. You have now made no promise to perform and anything signed this way cannot be used against you in a court of law. They may still give you a ticket, as under their public code you are guilty until you prove your self innocent. You then serve copies of your without prejudice copies on the Crown and Court to prove you made no promises to perform with a note explaining this and they ticket will go away. You cannot appear in these lower courts if you do this private remedy.
@XXXOD You must travel with a passport signed without prejudice then? It is the only form of identification for a private Canadian citizen accepted worldwide.
its because of the fact that in the video it literally says "plates are expensive to replace and his plates would keep getting destroyed." nice listening skills hopefully they've gotten better over 3 years.
my problem with this is that it's illegal to drive with them, so police give the drivers tickets and fines, but if its really such a big concern to the police, why don't they go after the stores that sell them and the dealerships that install them, and make it illegal to install and sell them? Until that happens, i will always say that the police are being unreasonable and its a straight up cash grab. I bought one of the full cover ones once from canadian tire because i thought it looked cool, i was pulled over by an officer who told me that i needed to remove it because it was illegal, when i told him i bought it from canadian tire, he told me that the law states that its not illegal to sell or install them, only to drive with them on. that to me seems very unreasonable, if you're going to make it illegal to drive with, and give the public a bunch of reasons why, then also make it illegal to sell and install.
jasen ratnam I agree with you, same thing like HId kit, these are illegal but you can buy it everywhere. I mean who the fxxx will buy frame and hid kit for off road using 😂
There is no statue against selling them but there is a California statue prohibiting the use of it under CVC 5201(d) A casing, shield, frame, border, product, or other device that obstructs or impairs the reading or recognition of a license plate by an electronic device operated by state or local law enforcement, an electronic device operated in connection with a toll road, high-occupancy toll lane, toll bridge, or other toll facility, or a remote emission sensing device, as specified in Sections 44081 and 44081.6 of the Health and Safety Code , shall not be installed on, or affixed to, a vehicle.

@2:16-2:20; it is at the discretion of every officer? If the infraction is "at the discretion", then it is not a law, it is "selective enforcement" or "double standard". Obviously there is no law if it cannot be followed as intended.
The plates on my car are 33 years old. So old they are made of steel and not aluminum, and the paint is non reflective which is not the case today. They were on my very first car I bought in 1982. The reason they have lasted so long is because I've always had plate covers on them.
The Toronto Police say automated enforcement is part of a broader strategy meant to curb dangerous driving. It doesn't take a genius to see through that. It's a broad strategy to increase revenue by ticketing people. Look into how much revenue was lost during the lockdowns when hardly any cars were on the road.
Ontario lincese plates are known to get rusted and easily peel off. Hopefully the officers will understand that drivers want to protect their plates from unnecessary costs.
The Plastic License Plate Cover does protect The actual plate from rust and corrosion during the Winter Season. I live in Detroit Michigan USA and have used them since 1990. Michigan now requires a Ten Year Purchase of a new license plate automatically using the reasoning that the exposed license plate has rusted and loss its reflective properties.
So are clear tail lights and tires outside fenders. Plus bicycle lanes are illegal under the Highway Traffic Act aka Splitting of Lanes. You live in a Democracy ignorance of the law is not a DEFENSE.
I have no issues with the clear one as it's very easy to read. The ones I have a problem with are the tinted ones especially the darker shades. You can't even read the plate.
frames are not illegal in the US but the tint plates are understandably illegal because other drivers cant identify the vehicle if they were to commit a crime.
Anyone getting a ticket for a license plate cover that does NOT obstruct the reading of the plate in any way should take their case before a judge, as THAT is the legal standard. It is that simple! If the cover does not make the tag difficult or impossible to read, it is perfectly legal. However, I do see some people driving around with "clear" covers that are so foggy that they actually DO make the plate difficult or impossible to read. I think they know this and seek out that type of cover on purpose, and for some reason they do not want anyone to be able to obtain their license number. Maybe they are committing some type of crime ?
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized
This is ridiculous! The tyrant police should spend their time actually fighting real crimes in the streets and ghettos and stop herrasing the public on such things as license plate protectors or frames.
Cheap Ontario plate @2:10. That happened to my plate. The Ontario government only replaces these defective plates within 5 yrs. I did not know about it until it was past the 5 yr mark. I refused to pay a cent to replace it. I was planning on fighting any ticket I got because of it.
At least that trooper was honest on camera. It's about red light cameras. How is a clear cover obstructing anything? Obstruction by definition means covering something and make it invisible.
Its so funny looking at the comments over the years. This has nothing to do with plate obstruction or red light cameras. Ive actually got more than 3 tickets and never had to pay them. If you go to court it gets thrown out everytime. Its a cash grab and an inconvenience aside from racial profiling but the later is for another discussion.
