I do have to add that Bill at powerstrokehelp drives and LOVES his 6.4 diesel and he uses a street tune on his 6.4. Listen to this video at 7:55 minutes. ruclips.net/video/4ix1R-_C9og/видео.html Of note here is that his 6.4 is a crispy critter now...it burnt down. Not sure why nor am I suggesting it had anything to do with tuning.
Wade, in this video Bill talks about a 6.4 powerstroke catastrophic failure. The culprit was the DPF. He goes on to talk about removing the DPF and tuning the engine. He praises the 6.4L saying "the 6.4L is a wonderful engine...I love my 6.4L...I want to go 200K, 300K, 400K on this truck...but you cant do that keeping the DPF on the truck." Watch the video here beginning at 10:00 minutes. ruclips.net/video/KLsDTW5Y8Ao/видео.html
@tacoman But If you as a 6.4L owner did the following, you wouldn’t be bitter and whining about the 6.4L: 1) use it...don't abuse it. 2) you MUST stay up on fluid and filter changes by the book, don't go over! 3) delete the EGR/DPF as soon as the warranty expires, and 4) don't buy a used truck without seeing a detailed summary of its maintenance history. The truth is: the 6.4 haters abused it, changed oil every 10-15K miles, diluted the hell out of the oil with fuel, tuned it to some crazy psycho tune, never cleaned their DPF, ignored the regen process for far to long...then want to complain the truck blew up on them. Its like a plane...you neglect the maintenance you're going down...and by that I mean financially you're going down in the 6.4L.
Great video Taylor! I just got a straight pipe, EGR delete kit and a Mini Maxx for my ‘09 6.4L. Any tips for the EGR delete? The dPF delete looks pretty straight forward. It’s the EGR delete that I’m worried about not doing something right.. thanks again for your videos
Thanks for posting this video. Question is what settings will give the least black smoke as I have seen other dpf deletes and at the end shows a ton of black smoke. I want to avoid doing this entire delete to end up black smoking all day down the streets.
Hello Taylor, Thank you for the video, I just tried to install my new mini max, it’s not finishing the load, now I’m unable to start my truck. How do I get my settings back, you talk about setting your truck back to factory default. Can you please explain how that is done?
Hello, I have a question for you, I hope you can help me! I have a 2008 Ford f250. Right now I am installing a DPF delete kit. I have fault codes for the disconnected DPF sensor and temperature sensor.! My question is, with this mini Max can I erase those fault codes and start my truck again? since the truck currently does not start due to the failure of these codes.! P0546. P2033. P242D. P2455. I hope you can help me to be safer and buy the mini Max, thank you!
Actually these tuners can be sold again even if they were used. The previous owner just has to unlock it from their vehicle. But essentially only one vehicle can be using tunes from a single minimaxx at any given time
Almost exactly the same process to program the H&S XRT Pro as well. Nice video. We have almost identical trucks with identical mods. Just did the fuel rail pressure sensor this week too.
Are you getting any harsh shifting from your transmission at all? I have heard these tuners are killing transmissions, not sure if thats true but I do have some hard shifts from time to time
@@holmesd5003 My understanding of the hard shifting (which my truck does) is that it's better than soft, slow shifts on the transmission. My tranny went out at about 150,000 miles, but I hear that's pretty typical for these trucks.
@@johnheywood9826 Thank you very much for the insight. I would be very happy to get 150k out of this transmission. Its a 2012 at 95k right now and I just put a lot of money into the a new turbo. exergy pump, ccv reroute kit, new 37 tires, new front end and some other things. Hopefully the transmission will give me some time to put money back in the bank before she goes lol
@@johnheywood9826any idea if the bully dog platinum gt is the same? I think the h&s got discontinued, and i’m trying to find something to work on a deleted lml. or know where you can get an h&s?
@@blueseventhree The H&S is discontinued and you'd have to buy it second hand. I really don't know anything about any other tuners, but I hear EFI Live can do pretty much anything you want. Do some research on that.
That's a nice programmer, I've used a variety of tuners on my vehicles in the past but not the mini max. Best one I've seen and used is the Ngague on the my GT 350 so i can run E85, they also got busted by the EPA at the same time as the mini max. I also have a 2008 Ford F350 exactly like yours but not a dully, i have a long bed, same color. I use a different programmer that you plug in - program- then remove to get the same results you have and man these trucks run SOOO much better with the DPF deleted. I forgot the name of the programmer.
Using stock tune but have transmission tuned and shifts are kind of rough. Should I run the stock transmission tune? Did you find that this helped? Your videos are super helpful. Thank you Taylor.
Thought I would answer my own question on here in case someone else has the same problem with there H&S tuner giving them a check engine and wrench light, with diagnostic codes all related to the EGR valve sensors that have been removed, When installing the tuner you Cannot choose the EASY setting, you MUST choose the MILD setting at least, or you will have EGR diagnostic codes that won’t go away, and affect performance
Great video once again. You answered alot of questions that I was searching for answers for. Especially about a second hand one. I have a buddy giving me one of his dodge. Only other question I have, do you know where to send this to have reset? Thanks.
I had a guy do a EGR delete and my truck has lost a lot of power and he claims it “was like that when i brought it”. Research tells me that he did not tune my truck. Is it worth me buying one of these?
I have a 08 6.7 cummins. When I tune my truck. The question about is it still have emissions, or if the dpf and egr are gone for fuel use. What would I choose when I am wanting to take the dpf and egr off?? Thanks
Taylor, i recently bought the same truck. 2008 F450 Lariat. It came with the Mini Maxx, but I don’t think the dealer knew how to use it properly. Should I try to put it on stock and then download the files like you did, or should I just leave it? ... I’m trying to make sure everything is set and working properly! Thx for the video.
Taylor, love your videos. As a 6.4 owner, it's nice to see people that actually like theirs. Did the smoking get better when you switched the low boost fueling down to #2? Mine will be dropping some excessive weight very soon. Getting these same mini Maxx. any pointers?
For the setting that asks if you have emissions components installed, would you only select no if you have both the egr and dpf removed? What if you only have the egr deleted, but not the dpf? Would the tuner know that and only remove the egr from the system, and not the dpf as well? Asking for emissions testing purposes. I plan to keep the egr system in tact but block it off with plates to achieve the same as a delete and I also plan to delete the dpf, however when it comes time for emissions testing, i plan to put the dpf back on, but keep the egr "deleted" because of how difficult it would be to continuously remove and install that system.
I just purchased a 09 F250 Cabelas Edition and it’s very well kept with 125,000 miles on it and all stock . Would you recommend me installing that system and deleting the DPF and add a secondary coolant filter ? Or just leave stock and change oil every 5,000 miles and monitor my coolant ? Like I said it’s a very very well kept truck !
Dave, You have to dleete the DPF/EGR, otherwise you are going to kill your engine. DPF is the number one enemy of the 6.4l. Get it off the truck asap. Watch this video from the most well known expert, Bill, in the powerstroke community: ruclips.net/video/KLsDTW5Y8Ao/видео.html
I agree with Dave. All though that EGR is just all bad. If you don't Delete it it will delete your engine in a catastrophic way. Please reread these comments and replies again.
Hey Taylor, needed a lil help here. I brought this 08 F250 6.4 powerstroke that had the MiniMaxx pre installed already, i never knew what it was until after watching your video I tried messing with it a bit to see if i could download another tune. Once downloaded my truck won’t crank now, everything was good before good the battery, starter. do you know the reason behind this ? My truck did crank & ran good before messing with this thing. do you have any suggestions ?
I returned it to stock my selecting down load and then hitting return to stock. But when we got to the egr part and dpf it made me agree to where it could only be used as off road and blah blah. Then it just downloaded back to mild and didn’t let me select the tuning or the low boost fueling or the trans tune. But now it seems like my truck shifts harder
Hey Taylor, I know this is an old video and I as a 6.4 owner enjoy your videos. I'm shopping around for the Mini Maxx tuner for the deletes and I just would like to buy from a reputable place. I can only find on google maybe 2 places to buy from and it's about $680. I just want to make sure I send my money to the right business to buy the tuner you have.
Hi Taylor. I hope you can answers a quick question for me. By the way great videos. I have the exact same set up you have. F450 min max EGR delete etc. The question is if the tuner ever crapped out would the truck still run? always has been a concern for me. If im out in the back county and for what ever reason it's not working would I be stuck? thanks!
Thank you! I am planning on doing it soon. I am in the middle of moving to a new shop and have several other projects in the works right now, but keep an eye out for it coming up soon.
Taylor, great videos! Question: When you tow, do you switch your Mini Maxx into tow mode? If so, do you notice anything different about your truck performance?
I might buy a 2008 F250 Super Duty has 250k miles no check engine and owners did everything at dealership, also has Up Pipes. Do you think can still be reliable??
Taylor and team - thanks very much for this info - super helpful! I am getting ready to do this delete on a 2010 350. Quick question - do I have to mount and leave the tuner on all the time or can I install the files and remove the tuner? Don't really want a tuner screen hanging around on my dashboard. Thanks!
The manual tells you what will happen if you remove it for various makes and models. On my 2009 f250, it says you can remove it and the settings will remain. That is what I have chosen to do.
@Taylor Smith thanks for sharing video. I have a problem with my Mini Maxx v1 tuner where the truck still shows code for EGR when it has been physically removed. Theres no DPF codes stored in dtc so thats good on that part.. And On the tunes when I choose Mild my truck doesn't like that tune doesn't want to start.. But when I tune to Easy tune the truck will like that tune better and actually starts up. Any way to get rid of EGR codes I thought the tuner would do that.
Hey man, been following your videos on how your tuning the 6.4. You make it really easy looking. We've ordered the egr& catalytic converter delete parts to do this to our truck but we are having a hard time sourcing the correct tuner so we can do it ourselves without having to take it to a shop. Any advice on where to get one? Much appreciated bro!
Hi, Tailor. I have a question, why is reason or motivated for remove EGR. Look I,m have one Ford F350 power stroke 6.4 2008. The truck. It have a problem blow smoke. Replace the turbo charger but the problem continue. I thing the problem is EGR. But I don't understand you remove EGR and the part software
Just bought a 2010 6.4 that’s deleted. They obviously left the throttle body on because it was showing a code. Isn’t the mini max supposed to take care of the codes ? Should I go back and set it to stock and try and start the programmer over ?
Would this unit allow me to adjust the transmission so that I can travel at higher speeds? My 6.4 seems to be geared so low that it really doesn’t want to go more than 60 without the RPMs getting pretty high
So I have question how do you get the screen to turn off on it? I just got a 08 f250 super duty. And it came with this same tuner but the screen stays on constantly even off
Thanks for a great video. I'm new to owning a Ford and new to the world of tuning. I bought an 08 F450 the gas been studded and deleted. After about 200 miles I got a code that #2 injector was bad. I replaced all 4 injectors on that side. Not much after that I had trouble again. It was saying #2 injector connection or harness. It was suggested to me that I flash and update the tuner. I could find no tuner in the truck. A good tech told me about the H&S tuner and recommended I get one. I haven't received it yet but you make the install look very easy. I'm hoping by installing this tuner it corrects my issue. Can you tell me if this tuner comes with the stock software on it? Also does it have the ability to flash the pcm and tune it to stock before installing the new tubes? Thank you so much for any advice. Sorry for the long description.
So is the Mini Maxx the same as the Bull Dog 40420 ? I hope I didn’t make a mistake buying the Bully Dog because I plan on deleting the DPF and purchased the delete pipes and all ! I can’t get a straight answer, they both look the same !

Hey Taylor. Great video. I have an 09 F350 Superduty with a 6.4 powerstroke and had my EGR and DPF removed by a shop who also put in the Bullydog tuner. I get more black smoke then I would like when I start out from say a stop light or if i walk on it on the highway. I want to lower my LBF like you did in this video. Do I have to revert it back to stock like you did on the video or can I just redo the download and go from there. Cheers.
Allen, I just bought an 08 F-350, 6.4 with 60,000 miles on it. I dont know anything about a Powerstroke but i would assume mine is completely stock. Any idea what it would cost to get the EGR, etc., deleted and buy the BD tuner ?
@@itisTaun I live in Canada so in Canadian dollars expect to spend in the area of 3 grand to have a shop do it for you. That was for a Bully Dog GT diesel tuner, EGR and DPF/CAT delete. Doing it yourself world save you a lot, because of the shop time cost. You want to get rid of the DPF on that truck for sure and you will still need the tuner. I got rid of my EGR because it was leaking antifreeze into my exhaust causing white smoke blowing out of my exhaust. But do your home work and you will find out about the damage the DPF does to the 6.4, My truck only had 55,000 miles on it when I had everything taken off, So with your low millage it is the perfect time to remove it before it does to much damage. Cheers
That EGR will kill these engines think of all the contaminants going back and sticking to every componint. Starting at the fresh air intake then the turbos. Turbos are finally machined instruments spinning at extreme speeds, balance is imperative to longevity. Plus every moving part in your engine is covered in carbon. Just grinding down every surface. Lowering the life of your engine. If I hadn't deleted the EGR and DPF I would recommend changing the oil and filters every 3000 miles or less. This is truly a diesel sabotage by the manufacturer. Forced on them by poorly informed emission control engineers from California. They want the impossible to happen in one day. Believe me, I want quality emission control, however, this isn't the way proper maintenance and temperature control is by far superior to this system. I have given this much thought.
Taylor, good morning. I watched your video on the ERG Delete. Why is it necessary to remover the cooling portion of the system? Also if it is necessary can the bracket holding the horizontal cooling section stay in place? Does it have to be removed? My concern is breaking a manifold bolt.
Daniel Hoover my horizontal cooler actually ruptured after several months of having just the DPF deleted. I removed the cooler because I had a rather large coolant leak from the horizontal cooler. The bracket can stay in place, I just removed it because it cleaned things up under there.

Ok so my truck is fully deleted egr and all that good stuff and it does not have a tuner on it do I just plug it in and turn it on as it says or do I keep it off and proceed with the set up while it’s turned of only then once it’s completed do I turn the truck on??? Please if you could help me out thank you
Seems like you respond to most questions. I’m in CA. 08’ 250 stock 131K. from reading the comments if I got the max tuner and did the DPF/CAT delete it would essentially deactivate the EGR system as well? So there would be no need to remove EGR valve and coolers?
Yes, that is correct. There is some risk of rupturing a cooler over time due to excessive buildup, but who knows, it may never happen to you. My horizontal cooler ruptured after 4 months.
It really depends on how well the truck was maintained and if there are any records for replacement of turbos, manifolds, etc. Many people claim that their truck ran well in stock form upwards of 200,000 miles, but it truly seems like every truck is different. Some fail sooner than others. Some run without issues for a long time with the DPF intact. If it were me, I would delete it asap. Maybe have a mechanic check it out before you buy it.
Hi, I hope I can get some of your experience. After I installed the minimaxx tunner, when i pressed the lock and unlock buttons, the lights and radio monitor turn on by like 1 sec and turn back off. Its like a plane...you neglect the maintenance you're going down...and by that I mean financially you're going down in the 6.4L.
on a side note, how do we revert back to stock?
Just got an 08 f250 super duty with this unit. Big help on understanding it.
Just received my Mini Maxx and this was very helpful. Thank you...
Wow definitely a user friendly video that I can understand. Thank you so much
Great video Taylor! I just got a straight pipe, EGR delete kit and a Mini Maxx for my ‘09 6.4L. Any tips for the EGR delete? The dPF delete looks pretty straight forward. It’s the EGR delete that I’m worried about not doing something right.. thanks again for your videos
just bought a truck with this on it thank you for explaining it and keeping it simple!
Great video I have mine installed for the past few years and had 35 in on it. I have new 37 how to change the tire size in the tunner
But essentially only one vehicle can be using tunes from a single minimaxx at any given time
I have a f250 ,with a mini maxx,it's in lock mode. How do I get it out?
Taylor, Can you get to the low boost fueling screen and make
changes without resetting turner and staring over from square one, Thanks.
I forgot the name of the programmer.
damn dude prob the most educational video for what i was looking for thank you for your help and your time to share your knowledge
I'm still confused
Basically disabled
Using stock tune but have transmission tuned and shifts are kind of rough. Should I run the stock transmission tune? Did you find that this helped? Your videos are super helpful. Thank you Taylor.
Got my tow haul tune running like a champ
Thought I would answer my own question on here in case someone else has the same problem with there H&S tuner giving them a check engine and wrench light, with diagnostic codes all related to the EGR valve sensors that have been removed,
When installing the tuner you Cannot choose the EASY setting, you MUST choose the MILD setting at least, or you will have EGR diagnostic codes that won’t go away, and affect performance
Had same issue with 08 f250 6.4
Good video man, was just curious how the set up works.
I’ve had the mini maxx on my 2010 6.4 and haven’t hade any issues been over 5 years
would you please share a part number im having a very hard time finding the right tuner
@@ZachSendejo34 the one I have is old and discontinued so I’m not sure what the new one would be but it’s made by H&S minimaxx DPF delete tuner
Are you pleased with the tuner? Any issues since deleting your truck?.
What delete/egr package did you use? Thanks
Thats what i paid 2 months ago from performance diesel got it within 1 week
minimaxxtuners.com paid $649 that was with 2 day shipping
Just bought mine from hotrod performance diesel , $659 2 day shipping , can’t wait to tune it
Hi Taylor. I hope you can answers a quick question for me. By the way great videos. I have the exact same set up you have. F450 min max EGR delete etc. The question is if the tuner ever crapped out would the truck still run? always has been a concern for me. If im out in the back county and for what ever reason it's not working would I be stuck? thanks!
Mine runs the same if the turner is not installed as it does when it is. I believe it just runs on the last setting you set.
Thanks for that answer Tyler. I have often thought of that as well 👍
Taylor one again great video when are going to show that video about relocating the sensor? Looking forward to seeing it👍
Thank you! I am planning on doing it soon. I am in the middle of moving to a new shop and have several other projects in the works right now, but keep an eye out for it coming up soon.
Does this improve MPG? DO you have a video for that mod? if so what can you expect for MPG?
I made the mistake of not setting my emission to dpf deleted. Is it easy to go back and make that correction?
Taylor, great videos! Question: When you tow, do you switch your Mini Maxx into tow mode? If so, do you notice anything different about your truck performance?
I use tow mode when I tow my 5th wheel. There is a mild increase in horsepower, but not much else that I can tell.
Question.. It will pass the smog test using this tunner?
That is what I have chosen to do.
what's up with you and your truck today. how's it running... any other things us other's with 6.4 truck's need to know...
Heck yeah, brother! Thanks a crap load for making this video. Definitely subbing.
What did you go with?
And it came with this same tuner but the screen stays on constantly even off
I went in to revert my truck back to stock on a 6.4. through the mini max. Gave me a “missing sd card” error. any ideas?
When you delete an EGR can you leave bottom cooler of the EGR on and just put the plate in between with keep downpipe more story Thank you and advance
Hey I have been trying to program my mini max but I am not getting an option to select egr delete or lower level
Bought a deleted/tuned f250 last night with this tuner. Do you recommend returning back to stock and then re-downloading.?
So is the Mini Maxx the same as the Bull Dog 40420 ? I hope I didn’t make a mistake buying the Bully Dog because I plan on deleting the DPF and purchased the delete pipes and all ! I can’t get a straight answer, they both look the same !
Great help ! Getting mini max in a couple of days and can’t wait to install tune .
So I got the mini max today , couldn’t wait , so downloaded tune same day , Taylor , your video helped a lot ... thanks
Diego, did you run a power wire to fuse box or just run it off obd2 port?
@@spcgardner1208 I just run it thru the OBD port which caused couple of batteries to go bad since left it on for a weekend ... thru the fuse should be the way to do it but not as easy ...

I have this on my 2013 and when I shut the truck off the screen on the h+s stays on forever, any ideas why?
Taylor, good morning. I watched your video on the ERG Delete. Why is it necessary to remover the cooling portion of the system? Also if it is necessary can the bracket holding the horizontal cooling section stay in place? Does it have to be removed? My concern is breaking a manifold bolt.
Daniel Hoover my horizontal cooler actually ruptured after several months of having just the DPF deleted. I removed the cooler because I had a rather large coolant leak from the horizontal cooler. The bracket can stay in place, I just removed it because it cleaned things up under there.

Please if you could help me out thank you
When you have a h&s mini Mac tuner on a 6.4 is it always on because i think my is
Seems like you respond to most questions.
Taylor Smith, when your pipe ruptured did it cause any damage to anything else?
I’ve got the XRT PRO, I wanna get the mini max just for the gauge display
Hi I’m looking to buy a 6.4 with 250, if I do a dpf delete is that good or bad thanks
Taylor is the Minimaxx powered through the OBD port?
in a "farm use" scenario, do you have to remove the DPF and EGR to use the tuner? or can it be left on? I don't really want it to be any louder.
My truck is very quiet. After the Delets with tuner and new exhaust went with 4" tube
Hi, I hope I can get some of your experience. After I installed the minimaxx tunner, when i pressed the lock and unlock buttons, the lights and radio monitor turn on by like 1 sec and turn back off.

Can you really up your fuel milage with this
