I can’t believe this video is 16 years old now. Where has the time gone? Loved this period where John would upload videos like this, like he was some sort of new, unestablished guy but he was already such an incredible artist with his career about to just get so much better.

I discovered this cover when I was 17. I was absolutely obsessed with it then. I'm 28 now, and it still gets me. This interlude was and is so underappreciated and John took it to the next level.

@@youraveragepasser-by7367 No. BAD cameras had atrocious quality. Good quality cameras have existed since the 1800s with film. film has no resolution and can be scanned to whatever resolution.
you're more than likely thinking about the mainstream videotape era: 80s-2000s. Everyone and their moms were using garbage videotape camcorders. Hi8, Video8, MiniDV, the list goes on. And now everyone has gone digital. But no matter what, nothing will ever beat film. Film picks up better colours and the image is made out of film grain. Not pixels. There is no resolution for film. But there is a resolution for tape and digital.
What Mayer used in this video was probably a cheaper, digital home videoing camera. If he used videotape then it would be way worse.
Don't forget that YT also compresses everything to garbage.
