Same here dude. Iron Tank was a very intense game for both my dad and I and we both struggled to make headway in the game. I was maybe 5 or 6 at the time and so many Saturday morning memories. Miss you dad
I remember my Mom renting an NES at blockbuster before I got 1. I stayed up all night playing this game until I beat it. I had blisters on my thumbs. I thought to my 11 year old self "Heh, battle scars." I went to bed a legend in my own mind. The 80s and 90s were such a great time to be a kid.
0:32 Fun fact. That right there is HMS Warspite firing at Sword Beach. The most badass battleship in history. That tower sheer structure, broken aft gun. That angle and shot is ripped right from her most popular D-Day (of the few that even exist of it). FYI: She was the first to fire on D-Day, tanked 150+ enemy shells during the Battle of Jutland, achieved the longest naval shot in history, only ever tied by the German battleship Scharnhorst. The list goes on.
I have been trying to tell my friends about this game for years and could never remember the damn name, sure enough 2 seconds into gameplay and I am like OMFG this is it! Thanks a ton for the video m8 ~~~!!!!
if you own an original nes and still have this game i wouldnt be putting wear and tear on it thats for sure, thats like taking the monalisa for a walk in teh rain! get a damn emulator and stop putting miles on something valuable
@@stanleymunro1500 Well Mario 1 didn't really have non-linear in-game multiple paths like this, you could just skip entire worlds in the warp zones at the end of some stages, but the levels were totally linear. The nearest to this was Mario 2 that had sort of similar multiple paths.
Yeh with the technology now the tanks would be ten times cooler. Nintendo really doesn't look at it's properties very well, there should be more to Nintendo than just constant Mario and Zelda titles.
Played this in Panama with my uncles when I was 5 in 1993-1994. One of the first video games I ever played but I could not name it for many years until I found it in a search.
What I learned about history today: World War ll was won by a lone guy in a super-tank who single-handedly took out the entire German defense forces. Wait a minute, that doesn't sound right...
One of the people who did the music for this game was Toshikazu Tanaka, who also worked on the Metal Slug series, some of the titles in the King of Fighters series, and some of SNK's other well-known classics. I don't know which parts of this soundtrack he contributed to though being the music for this game was co-composed by two other people.
Fun fact: the red bar at the bottom of the screen is your life meter, not fuel; plus it does not deplete automatically like in 1942 or 1943 (SNK vs Capcom). Running over small soldiers gave you some life back as well as the "V" power-up, but hitting anything else takes it away.
I spent hours playing this game as a young teen in the 90s in Australia, had to borrow it from my local video store I didn't own it. I was into tanks a lot so I loved it but I missed so many secrets to defeating those boss tanks quickly that you've just shown me now 30 years after the fact, if only I'd had youtube back then but then I guess cheating isn't as much fun as cracking it the hard way. I cant remember if I ever beat it but I don't think so.
This game was always frightening and anxiety-inducing to me as a kid. Your tiny tank against these gigantic cannons and monstrous tank machines. Such a classic.
I used to love playing SNK's Tank-III but that game used the legendary LS-30 rotary joystick and MAME isn't very good at emulating rotary controls. But THIS looks great! VERY close to the arcade version but optimized for NES controllers. This game is going on the Super Retrocade TODAY. Thanks my friend, good stuff!
Aside from the elements taken from TNK III, it allows you to mix and match different cannon buffs. It also has branching paths, meaning even after you beat the game, there's still more to see!
One of my favorite nes games as a kid. I loved the different paths that lead to easier or harder game play. My only issue is the manual said 2 could play at the same time. Please tell me this is a typo cuz I could never get 2 players at once.
Man, I have many memories with this game. One of my relatives gave me his copy, and I played the s**t out of it. When I was heavy into "gangsta rap" music (No Limit Records in particular), I made "Iron Tank" my "stage name." Ahhh...those were the days.
took me a long time to beat the game but when i finished the game that was it. never played it again. it was such an achievement for me. 1 of the hardest games hands down....
I remember learning about WWII in history class, and talking about how the Nazis had giant tanks with 8 gun turrets, and how the war was won by one man in a little tank.
The Nes version of DD (as well as other game adaptations) is so poor compared to the arcade version. They need to remake the arcade game versions for the switch.
Played and won this game numerous times as an elementary student but there is one scene (I swear) I only came across once, there is an air strip screen with a plane that looks way out of place, like a modern day stealth, thought it was a secret scene or something, never found it again.
In order to see that part, you play the game as normal until you get to the highway, where you take the right path and then turn left towards the city on the upcoming fork. You'll go through the aforementioned city, fight a bunker, then go to a lake. After that, you'll end up in a submarine pen and fight a battleship. Finally, you'll end up on the airstrip and the mystery plane is at the end, replacing the usual one. Also, I believe it's based on the Horten Ho 229.
Reserve fuel. If you absorb one fatal blow (being run over by a think tank was a favorite of mine), you lose all your normal fuel but gain the amount in the reserve supply.
I loved this in the arcade. I was wondering how do you rotate the gun turret on the NES? The arcade machine had a joystick which could be twisted to rotate the turret. I have the arcade game on my PS3 but it's pretty much unplayable in the later stages because you can't quickly rotate the turret like you can in the arcade.
@BxxDxx Hoodoo That might work on a simplified version for a console but without changing the gun turret's direction you can only get as far as the statue level in the arcade. For the PS3 release they should have used the analogue sticks for the turret. Rotating it with L and R is far too slow, you need the instantaneous action that the twisty joystick gave you originally if you want a dog's chance of completing the game.
Is this off an emulator? Or actual cartridge? I don't remember bosses dying that quickly even with Blast, Fire and Long range. I'm old now, so maybe I just don't remember.
2 observations. 1. How did the 7 year old version of myself get to the final level of this game. This game looks hard and scary. 2. It makes me nostalgic because it took me 3 years to finish the game, I was 10 years old. I cried with joy when I managed to finish the game :')
This is an individual who has played a *lot* of Iron Tank. Almost TAS levels of positioning and preparedness for Boss fights. Very nice indeed.

Iron Snake, the father of all Kojima's Snakes...
