Backdash Cancelling / Korean Backdash in Tekken
This video shows how I do backdash cancelling on an arcade stick.
I use a Korean (Crown) lever but the same grip and motion works on Japanese sticks as well.
There are two methods on both sides. I will show all four methods at normal speed and in slow motion.
I prefer the wave dash motion on 1p side and the sway method on 2p side.
If you are new to backdash cancelling I suggest to practice slowly. Do 3-4 BDCs then do some other move to break your rhythm and start doing BDCs again.
Try holding the b inputs longer and the canceling motions shorter. Holding the b inputs longer helps to make BDCs safer, too.
You can start very slowly and if it works for you then start speeding up. If it becomes inconsistent slow down again. In practice mode turn on the command window to see where you go wrong.
At first it feels awkward but after some practice is becomes natural.
I hope this video helps and thanks for watching! :)

If you are trying to do this with stock madcatz te, I found it was MUCH easier after putting in a stick with a shorter throw like ls 56
Very helpful, thank you, and quite a nice stick you have. :D
you just earn a subscriber my friend :D tnx for helping me out with this one
Is the input back, back neutral d/b,back
thx, iven tho i being practicing it for hours and i still cannot do it, my character literally only does sides steps to the screen :C
I use a japanese stick with an octagonal restrictor, could there be problem from me touching the switch angles with these methods?
plus, is korean stick so much better in terms of kbdc? i'm considering changing my sanwa stick for a fanta or crown.
+MasterCharizard You should be able to do KBD with your lever, too. The choice of lever is mostly about personal preference. The advantages and disadvantages are minor.
+aabyssx thx for the reply
Good vid, i needed help on how to backdash on a k-stick for bryan,
if u show COMMAND Window we can see commands in real slow motion on youtube. i am sure that [b,db,N] repeat is wrong. If you will see in command window its [b,db,b,N] i showed it to my friend awais who thought it was first technique he was doing but he found out that there was an extra b. b,db,N alone cannot produce a backdash. thanks
That's correct, you need another 'b' before release
So basically if my stick doesn't register another "back" on release, I'm fucked?
Its quite weird. You have to make it so that the stick, while going to neutral, brushes against the back microswitch to get the extra back. I have to twist my stick in a weird way to get it on P2, but its very easy on P1 side.
I was able to do it on the right side, but not the left at first. After replacing my bat top with a ball top, I figured out an easy trick to do it on the left side with non-sway characters. I only use my index finger and thumb. I start by holding left with my thumb, then let go and slide my index finger down the right side of the ball so it registers (D, DB, B) then tap with my thumb and repeat, so basically I'm just moving my finger and thumb straight up and down.
you have to release it in a manner where back is triggered. Look at how the switches are installed, its quite easy to figure out how to let go so that you trigger back when released.
Well.. It is very nice
This video did the job

oh fuck I never knew about the sway method. That seems more natural for pad controls. The wavedash motion seems to get bogged down more in the crouch frames, I have to try this out
I liked it! :)
I'm trying to do this on pad lol
nice vid
its 2017 and i still cant return the stick to neutral consistently... keep getting a sidestep FML
Same
pankake mixes its 2019 and I cant
I find it hard to do back or forward sway with the stick.
This video is still very relevant, at the time you've done this video are you using a grommet in that stick that's around 30g of resistance? It feels hard to do this with 3 fingers with that rubber.
It was a stock 303N without modifications.
Sooooo what Gate do you have installed?

P2 side, i do the conventional way BUT for P1 side, i do bb with thumb, db with middle finger, then Back with thumb, db with middle finger, and so on, i personally don't do the bb, then slide down to db method, i just do a 2 input method Back with thumb, db with middle finger and just do it one by one, anyone do it that way for P1 side? thats how i do it personally
bludika Pretty sure that's no good because you're sacrificing defense. Can get hit while you're returning to neutral.
I picked up the 1p side fairly quickly, but the 2p side is giving me major problems. For whatever reason I don't get an extra back when I release on 2p side.
is kauzya a sway character plz help
5 years later. -no :D
What does N stand for
The Unknown Saiyan Let the lever or dpad go back to neutral position.
Oh
I'm getting use to the sway method but can't tell if I'm doing it right
this shit ruined the game for casual players
Then stay casual. No one if forcing you.
what? that makes no sense to what i just said...you're an idiot
git gud
get a hitbox, took me 5 minutes to learn korean backdash and a week to get it down to the point I don't have to think about doing it to do it.
