Amen to that 😅. (Although one time I did see a clip of "Louise Jefferson" doing a neat imitation of Mae's walk and type of outfit -- she had it down pat!! 😅)
When the interviewer asked which type of men she liked the best. Great, big muscular men, intelligent men or handsome men, she said "yes". I died.😀 She was so, so ahead of her time. Thank you Mae & Red RIP.
It's amazing that Mae West remained a star so many years without any films after 1943 and very little TV work. She made such an indelible impression that the public couldn't forget her, like Garbo.
Don't forget that during that time away from movies she appeared in stage plays and in a hugely successful nightclub act. She also made records. She kept her hand in show business just enough to stay in the public's mind.
Mae West is the most talented and gifted entertainment performer in history. She became famous writing hit plays on Broadway...then when she got the offer to go to Hollywood, she wrote the entire movie script for almost all of her hit movies....this is unheard of. I believe at her peak she was the 1st or 2nd most financially prosperous entertainer in the world. During a time when women (and men) had no control over their careers:at the mercy of powerful entertainment executives. She was controversial, wrote positive plays about the LGBTQ community and human sexuality; way ahead of her time. A writing and intellectually gifted woman. Plus she didn't drink or do drugs. "1 and 1 is 2...2 and 2 is 4 and 5 will, get you 10...if you know how to work it."
Mae was sensational here! Red was first-rate and so was Mae! Mae had a great presence. She always gave a wonderful performance. She never disappointed.
I always read about this appearance, but it never was included in any of the Red Skelton collections. Such a treat to finally see it. Mae was sharp as a tack and stole the show. It is a shame that this was the only TV comedy sketch show that she ever appeared on, because she was terrific. All those years on the stage showed. What a pro!
I won a rhinestone Mae West brooch at auction a few years ago. My two favorite Mae West lines: "I used to be snow-white, but I drifted." "Keep a diary. Someday it may keep you." ;-) G!
Red Skelton was Fabulously funny, Kind. Great painter, just love him. His Guest, Mae was brilliant, did her writing, spicy, yes. Thanks for sharing this show, Red and Mae West. Great
So wonderful to see this after thought lost for decades. Now let's all hope the 1959 Dean Martin show with Mae West is being found plus the two filmed cut song number from The Heat's On.
@@rufust.firefly2474 Hi Rufus, no I do not know the titles but would be good to find out. One song was cut because the lyrics were too risqué the other one because the dress was too provoking. There are stills with the later number. It is the very glamorous and revealing dress where she is with a very different head cover and seemingly no wig . If you give me your email address I can send you the photos. Or you google under The Heat's On. I am part of the Facebook Mae West group and I will also ask Mae's former secretary Tom M. whether he knows more. It is strange as the film cut that it is available. that she only has a song at the beginning and then a brief number at the end and nothing in between and she was by far the biggest star in the picture.
@@randysills4418 well I know!!! But She was so great at double meanings....meaning " a smart girls never beats a man at anything"......haha. Or think what u like.........lol loved Her!!!!😂😂💖💖💖😽😽😄🍿🍿
I think the censors didn’t understand the double entendre , but clearly Mae knew exactly what she was saying. The nervous laughter at that joke showed many audience men era understood it too
This aired 6 years before I was born. I remember watching this show at my grandparent's house. It's so great to look at these episodes with fresh eyes! This video is a gem! Thanks for posting it - such sweet memories!
I love Mae West. She was really unique and will always be!!! Red Skelton, great actor and comedian. Fuller Brush Man is a classic with him, that I love!
CLASSIC ENTERTAINMENT U CANT FIND ANYMORE MAE WAS JUST A PURE ENTERTAINER FROM HER STAGE SHOWS TO MOVIES TO LIVE APPEARANCES SHE PERSONIFIED SEX APPEAL IN HER 40s WHICH WAS UNHEARD OF AT THE TIME SHE DIDN'T EVEN GET HER MOVIE DEAL TILL SHE WAS IN HER 40s AND THAT NEVER HAPPENED BACK THEN SHE BLAZED A TRAIL MZ WEST IS LEGENDARY ICONIC EVEN
23:06- Funny to see Miss West hold a handkerchief over her mouth to coyly cover up her spontaneously laughing at Mr. Skelton's joke about letting the censor out of his straight jacket during Miss West's appearance! I would say that that was one of the very rare times she allowed herself to break character in public.
Just loved this, thank you for posting!! Did you know Mae could sing opera too? She did a beautiful duet in Samson and Delilah... wow, could she sing. What a marvelous entertainment!! 🎉
Not sure what to make of Mae West. All the rumours she was a man - its possible,Her gowns were always well padded and no cleavage - huge man hands if you look close.
That is because her act was basically that of a female female impersonator...she based it on some of tbe early 20th century drag acts..she was neither pretty nor slim or tall..yet her stage persona was all that and never ever aged...mind over matter so to speak
My face hurts from smiling... there will never be another Mae West.

Mae West made films after 1943 !!!!!

A rare glimpse at Miss West break character. Great to see her laugh, and ad lib. " ya see that , they loved it" .... yes we did Mae....
This was my first time seeing that
This was wonderful. I loved when Mae lost character at the end and starts laughing! Goes to show how funny Red Skelton was! What a delight!
WHAT A TREAT. Christmas came early for us Mae West fans! She is delightful and she appears to be having a grand time. THANK YOU for posting this gem!
What a joy! I've waited 37 years to see this. Thank you so much for sharing
I WAS A PEN PAL WITH MAE FOR 10 YEARS. WHAT A NICE LADY. BY THE WAY GO UP TO MY MESSAGE IT MIGHT SHOCK YOU.

YES YES YES!!! Long live the legacy of two GREAT stars!!! Thank you so much!!!
Still looking good and extremely funny in her own way. Some of her lines still pack a punch in 2021.
Mae West was unique and her time ahead! She is a legend and an american icon!

She also appeared on "The Deam Martin Show," along with Bob Hope.
Mr Ed as well
On the old "Mister Ed" show was the first time I ever saw Mae West! 😅
This is an incredible video. Mae was still at the top of her game

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Now we wait to see if the Dean Martin and Person to Person TV shows turn up!!
Miss West was 67 years sexy at the time.
That was fantastic. I loved that you got to see the woman behind the character, albeit briefly. I would've loved to see more of that person.
She had so much fun portraying her Diamond Lill character. It was a big game to her. Loved it .
😂 Red Skelton was hilarious and I just love 💘 Mae West!💕🎼🎶🎥🎬 Wished they still made comedies etc like this one
Thank you so much for posting this video...absolutely great to see this
Incredible woman, an icon for both straight folks and gays alike. She would have been about 67 when this was made. What a trooper!
Yes.....she s a doll !!!!
She ALWAYS kept working & busy....very admirable
Been wanting to see this episode since viewing the American Masters documentary: “Mae West-Dirty Blond”.
Even in her senior years Mae West still had '"it."
Yes she did
WHERE in the HAYULL did they find THIS?!?!
What a treasure trove. I used to watch Red Skelton all the time as a kid. Dont remember this one.
LMAO at 8:33 - "A smart girl never beats off any man" Amazing this got past the censors!
I think at this point the sensors had cooled down a bit

INCREDIBLE MAE WEST!
It was a gem to see her laugh and barely be able to keep her composure at the end of the show
What is this hidden power you have over men?
Mae answers, I didn't know it was hidden.. LMFAO!!
🤣 😆😂😆
