Black History and Red Skelton
Lena Horne was a major black singer/actress for MGM musicals in the 1940s. She appeared in five films with Red Skelton but did not act with him. MGM did many musicals with a thin plot that featured special musical numbers in the film. Lena Horne sang “Jericho” with black piano player Hazel Scott 1:18 in “I Dood It” (1943 MGM). Dancers, the Barry Brothers appeared in two Red Skelton films.
4:05 Red Skelton toured Army camps during World War II with The Four Knights singing group. They later became featured singers on Red’s radio show and also appeared on television.

Red Skelton Autograph Hound

The Museum had an exhibit of autographs Red had collected from his early stage days to concerts after television. One autograph book had signatures from guests of the 1955 Look Awards that were presented on the Red Skelton Show. Walt Disney, Judy Garland, Jack Lemmon, Edmond O'Brien, Bing Crosby, and Alfred Hitchcock.

What a complete waste two amazing stars and they do a silly thing like that
The title of this video says "1968-02-13". IMdb also says this episode aired Feb 13, 1968. At the beginning of the video, it says it was filmed Jan 29/30 1968 and aired May 7, 1968. Any idea why there's a discrepancy in dates?
The Mitchell Choir were fantastic..... !!
Awesome
Ms. Jackson's voice is so natural and powerful...its making the mic breakup and its far enough away to be off camera..thats power!
It would be wonderful to see a professional transfer of this print. You can barely see definition in many areas.
That second song "Come a Little Bit Closer" was heard in an infamous scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as the arrow began to pierce a lot of people on board the ship.
The Jimmy Joyce/Alan Copeland Singers actually sang a goodnight song starting in 1965, whose first verse is constantly different, but the remainder was always, "So goodbye, until the moment when we'll see you all again. To our friends, near and far, fare thee well, au revoir."
Red is my great great uncle and it has been so interesting watching these videos on this youtube channel! Seeing the similarities of my dad in Red has been really touching ❤️
Is your Great Grandfather Paul or Chris?
I would like to know more. I am the curator mkratzner @ vinu.edu
I remember Red Skeleton. I must be getting old. :(
Burl and Lulu's musical numbers: Lulu's Back in Town Consider Yourself from Oliver!
Golly, Bob Crane on drums for a cover of Nancy Sinatra's recent hit "These Boots are Made for Walkin'."
Hear the timing of his jokes. Humphrey Bogart and the African Queen must have just come out in theaters
Red always brought Love to the atmosphere around him. Humble, Kind and always wanted to make a difference. He always gave thanks to Father at the end of his shows. Thank you Red for being part of my youth years.
Grateful for the uploads, but proper transfers would have both left and right audio channels.
I love Red Skelton's smile 😀!
Bullwinkle brought me here.
Amazing footage. Thank you
Interesting!
Red and his wife were well-known 'swingers' in the Palm Springs community.
What a great era. TV was so good. 😔
Some people in the comments are complaining this is corny, sure it was. So what? A lot of what Red Skelton did was corny, but he was a great entertainer. The only thing I don't like about this is I wish it had gone on longer.
Wow, what a different time. Sort of defines the word 'wholesome'. Red has some crackerjack one-liners lol. Greer's speech in the benefit show was so awesome. Would sound totally 'corny' now but was real and down-to-earth back then. What a different time.
Amazing the quality of this color tape. Red so much beloved by millions of fans. Recorded in 1961.
Needed an comedy director.
CORNY
interesting!
Christmas as only Red can do. 🎄🎅🏻🎁☃️
Merry Christmas to all who operate this wonderful channel!
Tuxedos outstanding
❤ Love Bob Crane🕯
I miss seeing this darling man. I grew up watching him, and loved him then, and still love him now. RIP, dear gentle man, and thanx so very much for the magic, music, and memories.
Bob and John could have a show of their own as a spin off of HH.
I remember bill maher criticizing him some time ago, mispronouncing his name disrespectfully. Red skeleton. Red was funnier on his worst day. God bless. ❤
I have yet to see the episode of the episodes that were shown on you tube.
This was the only episode that was in color back in 62. Imagine a CBS affiliate that didn't broadcast this in color cause of a lack of equipment.
Odd how the actors playing the nazis lead a more honorable life than the actor playing the American. Makes the old shows harder for me to watch.
Why? The actors portraying the Germans (I don't believe Shultz was a member of the Nazi party) all were victims of the Nazis in one way or another and took those rolls as a way to make fun of them.
@@JeffDeWitt There were rumors of Bob Crane's untimely death as being rather scandalous. The irony you appear to have missed is Bob Crane played the good guys character and his IRL was a mess. I liked John and Werner as people and as actors. I think you are over reading the nazi part of the juxtaposition I made.
Great stuff!!!
It was Emmaline Henry who accidentally leaves the doll behind in the snow.
Thank you very much...
Red Skelton......A Gifted, Talented Comedian; with all of the " characters' " on his Show . What a Wonderful Red Skelton Holiday Show :) " G-d Bless " As Red Skelton always ended his Show's :) Happpy Christmas :)
Brilliant find 👍
Red was hysterical.
Funny!
I remember watching Red Skelton on TV. We used to laugh and laugh at him. He always ended his programs with "Goodnight and God Bless"
A great story about how to live life. Red brings back memories of being entertained while watching TV .
Would sure like to know Bob Cranes last few moments of life.....Murdered w/ no arrest.
Originally following this episode, a five minute political announcement on behalf of the Republican party was scheduled.
