    That one is almost as nice as mine! LOL. It is one of my most favorite reels. I have two other power knob handles for mine and I’ve put this reel, a 706Z, and a beautiful little 722Z in a nice Apache case. You worked on my 706Z and the video is in your library. I love these worm gear reels and you won’t find better gears in any fishing reel. That rubber washer thing is a rotor brake. The 706Z doesn’t have that part. I personally think this reel and the 706Z are the greatest spinning reels Penn ever made. Mine are original ones that I got back in the 1970s. I take meticulous care of mine and the only problem I’ve ever had was some micro sand that got in the line roller of my 706Z. Glad you did this one so you have both these great Z reels in your library. These reels were brought back by Penn by popular demand in 2013 for a limited run. Those recent 704Z and 706Z reels do not have that band on the rotor that denotes line size and capacity. That’s how you can tell an original from the later ones. Other than that they are absolutely identical. I have an original 1961 first edition Spinfisher 700. You can tell that greenie is an original by the solid green handle and the aluminum oscillation arm inside. They are pretty rare and hard to find particularly in good condition. What is your favorite of the big reels? I’d really like to know that. I think the 706Z is slightly larger. You know, when you have over 130 reels it’s impossible to change line on all of them every year!

      There are a lot of them both classic and current. Quality reels have always been made well and endure. The early spinfishers are good examples

    Dennis, what is your favorite of the big reels? You once said you liked the Daiwa GS 9. I;ve also heard you mention the Daiwa Tournament reels. By the way, the 7o6Z is the largest because the rotor and spool are slightly larger and have a little greater line capacity. I just got my second one of these. - Chris

    What is with the square black plastic handle? Is that a newer handle? I thought these had the rounded handle. Also was there a difference between the gold spools and the black spools for these? Did they ever do what Mitchell did and have deep and shallow spools?

      Yes - it is a replacement handle. These reels came with the original torpedo (football) handle knob

      They share a lot of parts. Check the schematics for both reels. You can find them at Mysticparts.com. If the part number is the same, they will work in either the 704 or the 704Z. If you have any doubt, you can call the folks at Mystic parts and they will try to help you

    Hi Dennis, they did "Re-introduce" the 704Z, "Briefly" in the last 15 or so years. If I recall, the newer editions had an additional Bearing behind the main gear in addition to the bearing up top below the rotor. Do you recall the "Newer Brief Re-Introduced" Penn 704Z and 706Z Spinfishers?

    • @2ndChanceTackle

      I bought two of the newer Penn 704zs, unfortunately the first reel came damaged as well as the second one so I completely lost interest in the reel. I ended up buying a Battle 3 but I really wanted to like the newer Penn 704zs but it seems the older models were built better and or had people who took pride in there work!

    I took apart a 704 and the drag washers were all dry. You show the greasing process and you use drag grease but i don't have that. What else can i use. I'm not going to buy a tub for one reel.

      you can use regular fishing reel greases. You can also buy them in 1 or 2 ounce containers. A combination pack of fishing reel oil and grease can be found on line for around $10. It is well worth the price paid - Dennis

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 года назад

      Soak the top end in a penetrating oil and let it sit. I would remove the top end parts and collar, only leaving the pinion gear and bearing exposed. Then reattach the rotor and use the rotor as a handle to pull up or rock back and forth with upward pressure to remove it - Thanks how I would do it - Dennis

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 года назад

      No fast magic. Soak the bearings with a penetrating oil like WD 40 and let it sit. If you need leverage on the pinion gear, reattach the spool to the shaft after you have removed the rotor and hold down collar and pull up on the spool - Dennis
