Awesome Dennis every time I think I have the best way to put the bail springs bail arms and put the screw back on I see you do it in sometimes a completely different way or just a little way I enjoy you schooling me further on completing a project from beginning to end with many different ways for many different types of reels as always God bless
Dennis!, Thank you so much! This is the video that saved my 704 Greenie. I had already put it back on the shelf thinking "well it is only a display anyway. If the bail doesn't close I'll live with that. But I stayed with it and found this vid and got it back together with the bail closing as it should. I built a mancave this year with a "bait Shop" theme and I have been gathering old fishing gear. But the tinkerer in me can not live with it if it is not as it should be. Thanks again! Love the channel!
You always show a better way to do it. I spoke in tongue the first time I did it and my head spun around 360 ...any way I finally got the hang of it. I have way too many 704's but they are absolute fishing machines. Once again thanks Dennis! Hope all you fellows on the channel are doing well!
This looks exactly like mine but my bail is fine. I’ve done this with the bail springs before. I’ve never seen anyone do this with such ease! I absolutely adore this reel. I have extra handles for it including several with power knobs. Of course I have several different handles because they all work on my 706Z as well. I didn’t take off the rotor but boy would that be easier. Excellent video Dennis! (I’m sending you an Email about an experience I had today with the largest rear drag reel I’ve ever seen. It was a Shimano and I absolutely hate e-clips!)
Thank you for this! I recently bought a used old 704. It was working, but the grease was very old and dirty. I figured i would just completly disassemble it ans oil/grease everything. Got all the bad grease out and got it nice and clean and freshly lubed, but i couldnt get the bail arm back on. I didnt disconnect the wire, snd as you said, its about impossible trying to reassemble it with the arm connected, which is what ive been trying to do, muxh to my infuriation. Thanks!
Hi Dennis Great video ! Excellent explanations. I've got that Shimano 4500B Baitrunner whose bail assemblies are a bit crunchy w microsand from previous owner. Arrrrggg... Will have to fully disassemble since a WD flush hasn't worked. Question: Do you think the Bail assemblies for the Shimano are the virtually the same or totally different than this Penn ? Cons
I don't have that one and I will add it to my request list. The Squall reels are very similar and I have a few of those in my library - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Sent my father's old 704z out for rebuild..(2009)?came back with the "upgrade" bail-less option... definitely not my favorite.. thankfully I got 3 more 😁. Thank you for detailed instructions..gonna look into fixing that.

Thanks for the note. Glad the video helped you give that reel a 2nd Chance!
Thank you. This helped me fix a sentimental 714z.
Glad it helped. Thanks for the feedback and for watching - Dennis

Thanks Mike - those reels are work horses and will just last and last.
Hi Dennis, with the aid of this video I’ve managed to fix my Garcia 3800 bail issue. Thanks for the thorough instructions !
Best regards from Japan
Glad it helped - Nice hearing from you - Best wishes - Dennis
Now it can be taken out and fished again thanks for the video Dennis 👍🏿👍🏿
You bet - The bail spring replacements are a little frustrating at best, but it makes the fishing great!
Bravo ! Clear and simple explanation of a complex procedure. You are the best !
Wow, thanks! Just trying to help out a viewer. Thanks for watching - Dennis
Easy when you know how!!
Thanks again Dennis, I'm learning more with every video.
Keep up the great work and stay safe. 🎣
You are welcome - Please stay safe and well - Dennis

YW - thanks for the note and for watching - Best wishes for great fishing with the 704! Dennis
I was wondering how about setting up a PVC pipe or something similar to the bail to give it the proper circumference to bend back into shape
That's a good idea. Probably a 2 inch PVC would get close - Dennis
I have the greenie 704
The older the better with those 704’s👍🏻
@@mr.somewhere2678 That works until you have to fix it! Love those Greenies - I have 6.
Kato - Which Greenie 704 do you have - the fish medallion side plate or the Swirl side plate?
They are basically the same and many parts are interchangeable. - Best wishes - Dennis

I will have to look. I have one in the shop and will check it later. Thanks Cons
Hey do you have a video on how to disassemble, clean, lube, and reassemble a penn fathom fth60ldhs?
I don't have that one and I will add it to my request list. The Squall reels are very similar and I have a few of those in my library - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Have any of you guys set one up to run bailless?
...I put one of those kits on my old 705z lefty
I haven't. I suspect there are folks that have and I hope to hear from them. Thanks - Dennis

Glad it helped - Dennis
