The original here is fine, but the Todd Terry Remix is outstanding and honestly just much more interesting. No wonder the remix became a massive hit.

They are husband and wife. Met at Hull university and in the town there was a furniture/homeware shop that claimed they could supply …’Everything but the girl’. Last year released their first new album for 25 years, called Fuse. Great couple with many individual collaborations.

You might know the Todd Terry mix of this song. A solid dance-beat underlining the gentle vocals. As ever you cover a vast and eclectic range of music on your channel JP. Much respect to you for that and the respect is doubled up cos you actually listen to the songs and react with your own thoughts. Loving your output

Tracy and Ben have been making great music since the 1980s, though this is - by a distance - their best known song. There's a huge catalogue out there well worth investigating.

Thanks for doing the original mix! The Todd Terry remix was obviously very good for them (it pretty much revived their career), but to me this version is the definitive one. It's so delicate, soulful and beautiful - and it has its own lovely groove. What a gorgeous vocal by Tracey Thorn, and Ben Watt's guitars are smooth and fluid.

Great track from EBTG. I love Tracy's beautiful, doleful vocals. They emerged in the mid eighties, alongside Sade and Weller's The Style Council, tapping into light jazzy grooves before embracing more electronic sounds from this record onwards. Tracy and husband Ben have released several solo albums over the years too, but released their first new album as EBTG in 20+ years last year. We saw them live in the early nineties, fantastic gig.

I've only ever heard the Todd Terry remix, even though I thought I had looked up the original I don't recognise it. It's beautiful, even better than the remix!
Will defo listen to the full album.
Solid reaction like always. I'd love to see a reaction to a few of my favourites the last few years: Lana del Rey's "A&W" or "Kintsugi", Caroline Polachek's "Billions", King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's "Dragon" - or perhaps some good black metal? (Hulder's "A Forlorn Peasant's Hymn" or Devil Master's deathrock-tinged "Black Flame Candle"?)

EBTG does a lovely rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s "Time After Time." Also Tom Waits’ "Downtown Train" (personal fave). As others have mentioned, this was far and away their biggest hit, thanks to the brilliant dance remix.

I love Everything But the Girl! This entire album, "Amplified Heart", is fantastic. You should listen to it and especially the song "Two Star" which is beautiful! A few of their earlier albums are great too. The US issued self titled album "Everything But the Girl" and the "Acoustic" albums are really great!!! The album right after this, "Walking Wounded" was a big hit and has some great songs on it as well. Oh and give a listen to The Style Council's "A Paris Match" featuring Tracy Thorn on vocals (make sure to listen to that version). It's amazing!

I was really into this group, getting all their albums, until they turned to a dance/electronica sound which this song is a forewarning of. Talk about jumping the shark! I was in love with Tracey Thorn's dulcet tones. For some really good stuff, I wouldn't mind at all if you decided to go back to their earlier sound so you can see how good this group was. 'Love Is Here Where I Live' or 'The Language Of Life' are both great choices. Thanks for checking them out.

Love is Here Where I Live is GREAT. When I used to sing with this guy who - at the time - was the pianist for the Duke Ellington Orchestra I introduced him to them with that song - which he LOVED. He wrote it out for me by ear alone so I could sing it. Beautiful stuff. I think Tracy is kind of a modern Karen Carpenter with her warmth and all around beautiful sound.

Might be a neat idea to go back and listen to their first album. They came out of the Sophista-pop scene of the 80's along with Sade, The Style Council, Basia, Level 42, Joe Jackson, Simply Red.... I'm talking horns, Bossa nova type rhythms and Jazz Guitar.

It's a great track and a great introduction tonthe band, but you really must react to the remix version. It's one of the defining music moments from the 90s. And It's the version that everybody (who lived through that era) knows. It was a massive hit and helped to determine the future sounds the band would make in the next years. Although, I still prefer their more jazz-soul oriented sound from their early days. Thank you for bringing back some good memories.

This is a year after their career changing work with Massive Attack on that band's second album (where Tracy lends her voice on 2 tracks). EBTG is AMAZING and I sent you a message about checking out some of their early stuff since I figured you'd heard their 90s music. Ben Watt has a big background in jazz - Tracy's voice is always incredible and she's a great lyricist. They've been around since the early 80s - where they started as Bossa Nova, Pop, Jazz, Folk group.. I suggest, Each and Every One, Cross My Heart, I Didn't Know I was Looking for Love., Troubled Mind from Amplified Heart, or almost ANYTHING on Tempramental if you like electronica. ;) - also - can't BELIEVE this album is 30 years old. 😱

Adore Tracey Thorn, from first hearing her sultry vocals on style council's paris match..she found her perfect match with Ben watt. A career of musical perfection. This song was everything that year it came out....remixs seemed to be te thing then... I have a disc of mixed of walking wounded..every track gold.... Go back for frost and fire or fascination or ahead for temperamental or five fathoms or lullaby of clubland..still going. the best voice and innovative music of the 80s 90s 00s 10s 20s...
