The small size makes it absolutely perfect for me, as I only intend to use it at work and it looks and feels far more natural than what a bigger model would. This was a good review and I enjoyed the fact that you were honest in what makes the device impractical for you.

I chose the basic over the pw because of the size! It fits my small purses and is not a burden to carry around.
I am giving away my 2019 basic Kindle. I have an older Oasis, current Paperwhite and 2018 Paperwhite and yet I still want this one. The thing I loved about the 2019 basic Kindle was it's compact size. The 167 ppi wasn't good for me at night though. I guess I am Kindle obsessed. LOL. I am thinking of trading the older Oasis in for this 2022 version. Call me crazy!

Looking at how well old ereaders hold up over time, despite less fancy features, they don't need the processing power or storage like phones do, and their battery gets far less cycles when you charge it biweekly vs every day so old ones still work. Just like book exchanges exist.. maybe an ereader exchange of sorta at a library could work?

I'd still buy the 2022 Paperwhite if I were buying today. I read alot before bed, so the warm light is a huge deal for me. I love my Paperwhite!
Agreed! I think the basic is good for what it is, but i still prefer my Paperwhite!
thanks for the review. i am super picky on screen. recessed screen is always better than flushed one in term of words crispness and whiteness of background. i am happy finally amazon produced one with 300 ppi. i am selling my 6.8 paper white. just my very small 2 cents.

Ah, you got the Denim color version. The black version purports to use more recycled materials. I’m tempted to get one, but I already have more than a few Kindle e-readers. I’m practically hOarding them! 🙈💦
In order to be “environmentally-friendly,” I need to consume less. I did get a 2021 Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition for my brother 🤔🧐

i love the basic for the size and weight. i tried the paperwhite but it felt so much bigger and heavier..

I had the previous basic version (167 dpi), and liked it. It was a gift; I thought it was a paperwhite, it seemed so good. Nearly a year later I found out it was a basic. Id be quite happy with the new basic if I received one. I do like page-turn buttons so if Amazon brings out a new reader with buttons, I’ll buy it.

my old basic is my travel kindle. I take to work and read when slow. fits in my back pocket. i like that. paper white for my bedside tho

I have 6th gen (2015)is there any difference in speed browsing .? The battery seems ok so far
The smaller size and lack of warm light are deal breakers for me, I only read before bed so the warmer light and bigger screen made the Paperwhite a must.

Hi, yes you can listen to audiobooks with the kindle if you’ve purchased the audiobook through Audible or if you’ve purchased the audiobook through the kindle store. Unfortunately there is no text-to-speech feature though.

@@ven0006 that’s a good question! I know that you can add third party ebooks to the kindle with some external software, but I’m not completely sure about audiobooks. I would think so, but I can’t say for sure.

When buying this version, if you don't get it with Kindle Unlimited can you go back and get the 3 month free trial? Or do you only get that when purchasing?

Keep an eye out on used goods sites, every time gadgets are released with updates, there are going to be some folks that get rid of their old devices that are perfectly functional. A friend got a kindle that's a couple years old for $30 off Facebook marketplace. I found a much older Kobo for $15 at Value Village that I gave to my mom.

I have a Kindle 4.1.1 that I bought about 10 years ago. The battery weakens. Is it worthwhile to attempt a replacement battery?(NewPower99) I am reluctant to buy a new one, for fear of it being less effective in managing my vast collection of pirated PDFs that I convert to MOBI with Calibre. Any comments? (or a link to one of your previous videos that address these two key issues....)
