I have some suspicions that Kody might be gay and unwilling to acknowledge it. I was married to a gay man for 6 years who claimed to be straight for most of it. He always had these deep intimate connections with guy friends (certain ones) that he never even thought about with me. His ego and narcissistic personality couldn't handle being gay so he just hurt everyone around him to avoid dealing with that.

Oh there's a little more to the Janelle situation that's important to know and ties in perfectly with season 17. Janelle and Meri had a big blowup and Janelle went to live with her mom. Christine still watched the kids as Janelle worked. But Janelle would rather be driving to drop off and pick up kids than live with Meri. Kody got sick of working on his dad's ranch again, so he moved back to Utah to find better work.better work. Janelle was unwilling to take off for Utah and see if Kody could get and keep a job. Ultimately Kody did get a job and found the Lehi big house. Kody needed Janelle's steady employment history and credit score to get the house; so Janelle moved back. Now Kody is spinning it that Janelle wanted to reconcile. Kody couldn't buy the house without her and upon Janelle's return, Meri started seeing their Utah therapist. This is the same therapist that Meri and Robyn saw after the wedding and Meri needed to work out some issues. They were only in Utah for 7 months after Robyn married Kody, but the dynamic needed therapeutic assistance. Kody is the leader of nothing. He made Meri the head wife, but he was terrified of her and let her mistreat his other wives and kids. Kody never stood up for Janelle and put Meri in her place, but he had no problem spending Janelle's money.
I know it's been said many of times by so many Sister Wives watchers (and I think at this point, some of his kids) that Kody's a narcissistic and while I personally don't use labels like that for people I've never met since I work in mental health, after watching Kody for so long I can definitely see why people are so sure he is one. One thing a lot of people probably don't know/understand is that the core of narcissism is a grandiose sense of one's self, an inflated sense of self-importance even to the point of a delusion if they have NPD. Often times narcissists will "show off" for people they want approval from and the way you describe Kody's behavior around Bret certainly fits that. It's almost like he's living for Bret's compliments and approval of being a man and it goes back to feeding into that grandiose sense of himself. At the base of it all, it's about Kody making himself feel better about himself. When I did research into narcissism while getting my degree, I read from a few psychologists that it's theorized that people may develop narcissism as a coping mechanism due to low self esteem that might be brought on from some kind of abuse, neglect, mistreatment, etc. from their early years. So Kody changing his behavior around Bret seems like he's trying to build up self-esteem by winning over Bret because a Bret seal of approval must mean Kody's doing right in life. If Kody truly is a narcissist, I guarantee that Bret is not the only man, or even person, that Kody does this around.
Used to work in mental health too. Great analysis. I think Brett did hold a special place in Kody's young life, but is a male outlet for Kody's masculine interests (weight lifting, wrestling etc.) I wonder if Kody takes turns treating his wives as narcissistic supply, going through the pattern of attraction and discarding. And the cycle continued because by the time there's conflict in one relationship, he's moved on to the next wife's house and the previous wife has to deal with her "selfishness" as dictated by their belief system. His strong behaviour and feelings towards Brett come across as his wives are in discard mode because he is placing his needs above theirs (steamrolling over the conversation Christine wants to have). And elevating this male figure as more important than his wives' needs.

Oh there's a little more to the Janelle situation that's important to know and ties in perfectly with season 17.
Janelle and Meri had a big blowup and Janelle went to live with her mom. Christine still watched the kids as Janelle worked. But Janelle would rather be driving to drop off and pick up kids than live with Meri.
Kody got sick of working on his dad's ranch again, so he moved back to Utah to find better work.better work. Janelle was unwilling to take off for Utah and see if Kody could get and keep a job.
Ultimately Kody did get a job and found the Lehi big house. Kody needed Janelle's steady employment history and credit score to get the house; so Janelle moved back.
Now Kody is spinning it that Janelle wanted to reconcile. Kody couldn't buy the house without her and upon Janelle's return, Meri started seeing their Utah therapist.
This is the same therapist that Meri and Robyn saw after the wedding and Meri needed to work out some issues. They were only in Utah for 7 months after Robyn married Kody, but the dynamic needed therapeutic assistance.
Kody is the leader of nothing. He made Meri the head wife, but he was terrified of her and let her mistreat his other wives and kids. Kody never stood up for Janelle and put Meri in her place, but he had no problem spending Janelle's money.
Kody Left Mary way before the catfishing, that is why she was vulnerable.
I know it's been said many of times by so many Sister Wives watchers (and I think at this point, some of his kids) that Kody's a narcissistic and while I personally don't use labels like that for people I've never met since I work in mental health, after watching Kody for so long I can definitely see why people are so sure he is one. One thing a lot of people probably don't know/understand is that the core of narcissism is a grandiose sense of one's self, an inflated sense of self-importance even to the point of a delusion if they have NPD. Often times narcissists will "show off" for people they want approval from and the way you describe Kody's behavior around Bret certainly fits that. It's almost like he's living for Bret's compliments and approval of being a man and it goes back to feeding into that grandiose sense of himself. At the base of it all, it's about Kody making himself feel better about himself.
When I did research into narcissism while getting my degree, I read from a few psychologists that it's theorized that people may develop narcissism as a coping mechanism due to low self esteem that might be brought on from some kind of abuse, neglect, mistreatment, etc. from their early years. So Kody changing his behavior around Bret seems like he's trying to build up self-esteem by winning over Bret because a Bret seal of approval must mean Kody's doing right in life. If Kody truly is a narcissist, I guarantee that Bret is not the only man, or even person, that Kody does this around.
Used to work in mental health too. Great analysis. I think Brett did hold a special place in Kody's young life, but is a male outlet for Kody's masculine interests (weight lifting, wrestling etc.) I wonder if Kody takes turns treating his wives as narcissistic supply, going through the pattern of attraction and discarding. And the cycle continued because by the time there's conflict in one relationship, he's moved on to the next wife's house and the previous wife has to deal with her "selfishness" as dictated by their belief system. His strong behaviour and feelings towards Brett come across as his wives are in discard mode because he is placing his needs above theirs (steamrolling over the conversation Christine wants to have). And elevating this male figure as more important than his wives' needs.

When I saw that episode I totally felt that Kody was in love with Bret. 😢 I've always felt that Kody was secretly gay/bisexual that would explain his hypermasculinity and over compensation with the four wives. Yup. He was all over the dance floor with other people without masks having a grand old time. Alot of things make kody a dirty bag but the fact that he did all that on camera knowing his wives and kids would see it made me sick.
