The longform version of my short, with much more detail. Hope you find this useful!
Ive spent so long in this game and never tough about changing my character colour name or adding an item id. Kinda usefull on chests btw, mostly for multiplayer.
Idea: Have people name themselves with weapons, and then fight eachother in a tournament. It would make draws impossible, and also be cool.
Fun fact about putting items into the chat, if you have the chat and inventory open at the same time, you can hold down the alt key and press an item in your inventory, it'll display it in the chat, very useful if you're playing with friends and want to show them something, showing prefixes and stack amounts as well

2:22 I have... multiple concerns with the existence of an armored iron broadsword.
Adding an item next to your name and world can make it super easy to tell which one goes with which. That's super handy if you have a ton of worlds

another useful thing to know is exclamation marks take priority so to put ur worlds at top add a few !!!!!

You can actually show items in text chat another way.
If you open your inventory then chat bar to type, you can hold alt then click an item with chat open and it'll put the item in the chat
And then, when your friends become used to sending items from inventory, you hit them with a legendary zenith at the start of the game
Fn: this does not work on mobile, so you have to type it
I knew about it, but using it for fancy character names never came to mind. Might actually be useful so I don't end up with a mess of characters with the same name from different playthroughs
As someone in the multiplayer community for Terraria, customised chat is always so nice.
It's also very useful for a lot of things, even something so small like making even a simple explanation message look nicer.
Do you know somewhere where I could find public servers? Like the pedguin one though I haven't checked if its still up (I haven't played multiplayer in a long time)

very cool. i remember learning about the ability to colour text ages ago but i rediscovered it because of this (and your short version) plus i never knew you could do items or those other shenanigans.
I remember using these a long time ago on a terraria server, I stopped though because the server had a discord plugin and the colored text just showed up as raw formatting on discord so some of the members were getting annoyed, especially when I tried rainbow text. Different color text has always been an interesting thing to do, glad someone made a video about it.
i found out about this semi on accident when i was reading about announcement boxes, 1000+ hours and never knew you could color character names or chests and such
Go to a public survival server in terraria, then make your text green, during the night say :
The air gets colder arround you.

Idk about the changing names but chests and chat feature has been in the game for a long time now.
I was UNAWARE this worked with character names and now I really want to go and do that.
But I am proud to be someone who knew of it due to browsing wiki too much, I used to troll friends with it in 1.3 c:
Finally someone talks about this knew for a long time but it was like a half secret community of people who knew this mostly on terraria servers and this also works on the console edition of terraria so have fun trolling people lol

You fool, I’ve known it since 2018! These are very handy though. I even trick my friends to thinking I have a Legendary Zenith in my inventory after I tell that how to item pick to show up in the chat.

I can at best do a few because I cannot make some of the more esoteric characters with my Danish keyboard.
wonder if i can abuse this, there is this unfinished chest that has 2 different textures on it, if you hover your mouse above it your character turns into the default skin from wayyy back in the days and freezes becoming uniteractable, aka buff,dmg,summons are removed from the character. practically becoming immortal but bosses does not despawn. but centrys are exeption for this and they keep attacking.
just find it's item id and post in chat and hover above it with mouse? also makes perfect afk farm post hard mode, those pesky biome mimics no longer can eat you.
Do you mean the "fake new chests"? Because they do basically the same thing when you place them down, but not when in your inventory (they make all your accessories disappear)

There are places you can get the Andy.ttf file to install on your computer.

I don’t believe so, but you can just find that color and use it for the static colors.
Dynamic colors are impossible
that would be a gradient, AFAIK you cant do those

The Terra Toilet is a mid-game item anyways, the Calamity Boss Rush is too powerful for it. Maybe if you were the Cactus Toilet, you may be able to get farther.

That "limited showing for names" doesn't seem to be an issue on console. I'm currently playing through a world with my character named the lemon item, and it shows everywhere, chat, deaths, tombstones, minimap, friends.
How'd you get it to work on console I may be doing it wrong but have not been able to get it to work but I've not gotten a good chance to actually test around

It doesn’t works on switch i tried typing in color on a character’s name it does not work but typing an item works just fine

Most likely in English. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of consideration for the players who use this feature
