Have you read The Maid? What did you think about Molly?

I started by listening to the free sample of the audiobook from Libby, to hear the tone the narrator set for the book. From there I did a blended read of both the physical book, and when my eyes got tired, the audiobook. I couldn’t put it down!!!

I did enjoy the book and was def a page turner, I was a bit disappointed with the ending but will def continue to read the series of Molly the maid.

Great review. I had the arc and so I felt that I had to read it. I read the character of Molly as being neuro-divergent, possibly on the autism spectrum. I felt the story and plot was really lacking nuance. The ending killed me because I kept thinking it was wrapping up then a new thread would appear. Must have happened at least 3 times and I was tired at that stage.

Hey, Hardcover Hearts. That's what I suspected about Molly. By the end, everyone played the roles they were given. I would have to read/view some interviews from the author herself about what she meant to achieve with the book (and some of these characters). But, while I do have questions, it just isn't deep enough to really get in to. LOL.

Currently about a third of the way through it and I’m not loving it. It’s a little cheesy so far. I’m going to finish it and hopefully it will improve. So far, I don’t get the great reviews it’s getting, but maybe I just don’t like the “cozy mystery” genre very much. I’m having a hard time with some things that seem unrealistic or too simplified for the sake of the plot. It makes more sense now that I know it’s a character driven story. Thanks for your honest review.

this book sounds like it COULD have been so much and just... wasn't

That's true. It fumbled the ball.

I went into this thinking I was getting something different but to me it felt like a glorified cozy mystery. With all the hype it was getting I was expecting something insane and off the rails, but it felt like a story I've seen done before many times in mystery books and TV. I was disappointed, but I'd watch he movie when it comes out haha

LOL. That's a great way to put it; "glorified cozy mystery". I thought the author was about to shake, rattle and roll (forgive me, but I had to say it) things up too. The entire time I was reading, I kept thinking of what I WISH she would've done. After a while, the tone was established and I knew she wasn't going to reach any heights unseen outside of the unusualness of Molly. Anyway, we'll watch the movie someday. Maybe Netflix or some mess.

I couldn’t get through the first chapter of this book…. The writing was so cringey!! It sounded so good. But certain cozy mystery writing styles are just noooottt my thing

LOL. Hey... you gave it a good run. I didn't see it as a cozy, per se. At least not in the traditional sense-like one would see when visiting the bookstore. Incidently, the unusualness of Molly kept me reading. Whereas on occassion I have a hard time leaning into many voices seen in the traditional cozies. But for sure readers will either be repelled by Molly's voice or amused or what have you. Honestly, I was more put off by the sappiness seen later in the book. :) That's where my cringe came from. LOL.
