Thanks for the info! I inherited a Nikon D300. I knew that the camera had been hardly used. I checked the shutter count as you suggested & it showed an incredible 376 Shutter count!
Thanks that was the best set of instructions for getting the shutter count on a Nikon DSLR I have read today. So simple when explained correctly. Thank you.
Thanks for the info! I appreciate that you shared it in a concise way, compared to other videos I've seen of guys (it seems to always be guys) who do a ton of fluff to make the video longer than it needs to be. :)
Thanks a lot, Desiree. Quite a clear explanation and a very practical and simple way to find out that useful to know figure. I got it right now from my Nikons D80, D90 and D7500. Amazing !! 5 to 5 stars for you !!! 👏👏👏 Big hug from Barcelona❤ !!
Thank you I never knew that until now. Great information. I was surprised that my D5500 wasn't that bad considering I had this camera for years. The Shutter count was 14,671.
Thank You Desiree, I have use the web site Camera Shutter Count, as 2 of my DSLR's Nikon's D3 & D2Xs shutters are fine, and now I will be using these models to conclude more test as I have obtain them, and using my Older Manual Focus Nikkor Lens as seeing the results that my older Nikkors are still holding the Sharpness, and Contrast, and the Colors onto digital shooting than when I use to use these lenses when I and still shooting film... Thank You... Gracias...
Very concise and well-explained. Thanks. I was a little surprised and distracted by the jump cuts in this video made by someone who's knowledgeable in photo and video topics.
thank you so much! just upgraded my dslr to a mirrorless and decided to sell my dslr but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to find the shutter count.
I tried this several times and each time I got a message up saying your camera doesn't seem to have this information. It's strange because I did this a few times and it worked. Do you have any idea why this might be the case ? Many thanks. 🙂
But where to check shutter actuations when you don't have a laptop with internet access near you? I want to look at the EXIF data in the soon-to-be mine camera? Where to look at?
Any reputable seller will determine the shutter count and include it in the advertising. This information should be accurate. If it's not as advertised you should be protected by the usual consumer rights.
Can’t believe this information is not available to view directly from the camera. Why does it require third party applications to find this out. Utter madness. Just buy a Canon in future.
Assuming you are going to put your photographs on a computer it's one extra step on a Mac. It's very easy to do. I assume on your Canon you have to go through the menus to find it - which probably takes longer. Your argument that it's easier to buy a Canon is just daft. Without getting into a Canon vs Nikon (or even vs Sony) debate I'm sure most of us would agree that ease of access to the overall shutter count is not a material consideration. Also using a Canon specific app to view the shutter count is no better than using Preview on a Mac. What this video did show - is one way in which using a Mac for photography is superior to using a Windows PC. All of that uploading to a website and running their software to analyse your EXIF data is a real faff.
I COULD NOT USE YOUR EXACT PROCESS. WHEN I CLICK ON THE PHOTO, PHOTOSHOP AUTOMATICALLY POPS UP. USING A MAC, I PUT THE PHOTO ON THE DESKTOP THEN OPENED UP PREVIEW AND THE PHOTO. THEN CLICKED ON TOOLS AND SHOW INSPECTOR. THEN CLICKED ON EXIF. THIS SCREEN SHOWS THE NUMBER THE PHOTO IS.
It sounds as if you have PhotoShop set as the default application for opening the file type that your image is stored in. When you Right Click on a photo the Mac gives you two options "Open" (the top one) and "Open With" (immediately underneath it). • “Open” opens the file with the default application (e.g. this could be Photoshop). • “Open with” allows you to choose Preview even if it’s not the default. Desiree shows this clearly at 1m 59s. The extra steps you describe "put the photo on the desktop" etc shouldn't be necessary. It's also important that you RIGHT click (normal or left click) doesn't bring up the menu.

I don't know about the newer cameras, but for my SL1 I had to use a Canon specific app to see the shutter count.
