Thank you for this video ! I have been trying to sort out depth finders and transducers for 2 weeks now. I went so far as to call Lowrance tech and I got connected with a lady who couldn't even use the English language let alone a Lowrance depth finder. I ordered my HDs carbon 9 from Russell Marine today because of this video.
Bro, I bought the TotalScan transducer and a HDS Touch Gen 2 from you guys cause you said in the video at 4:30 that you can use the TotalScan transducer with HDS units and you CAN NOT use the Total Scan transducer with the HDS Touch Gen 2 models. I installed the TotalScan on my boat yesterday, was all pumped to try out the HDS Touch this morning and hooray flipping nothing worked!!! And ya, I went into the settings for the sonar and tried to find the model of transducer in the menu and guess what, it's not there. Just for fun I tried selecting every model of transducer in there to see if 1 of them would work and nothing. Sooooooo ya, there ya go.
Found this video while trying to find more info on specifics of Lowrance transducers. Do you know exactly which transducers comes with the 2022 Nitro Z19 Pro package? It says "StructureScan". Does this mean that they do not include traditional 2D sonar in the package (if I understand correctly). Thanks for the helpful video.

Whats the difference for the side imaging quality in the total scan transducer Vs. The LSS-2 transducer. Does the total scan transducer NOT have HD side imaging compared to the LSS-2???
I want to add side imaging with the LSS 2 trans. on my HDS7 Touch and move my HDI transducer to the 7 Pin sonar port. Will I just need a 9 to 7 pin adapter cable? Also will I still be able to get the water temp reading from the HDI this way or does the LSS 2 provide that?
I bought the hds 7 gen 3 about 5 months ago. It came with the total scan transducer. 2 D sonar,Down Scan and side scann. My screen resolution looks kind of blurry either if i have it on 2D sonar or Down Scan. I selected the right transducer on settings. Can you please help?

Bula from fiji..So i just bought a new hds live unit and wanted to pair it with a hdi 50/200 skimmer 9pin since its an affordable transducer and has chirp big plus from the p66 . For offshore use since we dont have lakes in fiji lol.. would that be a good set up for ranges between 60 to 350m thanks.
The HDI transducer in your video looks a bit different than ones I'm looking up. Is there a difference between the one in the video and a "skimmer" I will be mounting this on my trolling motor and am looking up the correct adapter to do so. I've found the transducer in the video HDI as well as one that looks a bit different, the "skimmer". The only adapter I've found says it's for the skimmer. Thanks in advance!

I thought you had to have a skimmer/transducer that had chirp in it. Are you saying the hst/wsbl will do chirp. You did not show or talk about the LSS1 I know its outdated. I have the HDS gen1 with the LSS1 and you must have module for it. I am thinking of adding a Gen3 into the mix. Would that work with the LSS1 & i would guess i would then have chirp
I have a Gen 3 with paired up with the Ultrex. I'm not getting a great sonar reading ( clarity, consistency) so I'm thinking of getting the HDI Transducer but what adapter will I need to put the transducer on the Ultrex.

We have the 83/200 epoxied thru the hull and have the lss2 mounted externally. No need for the 3d module unless you have the 3d transducer. The spotlight scan is decent. I prefer the hdi transducer for 2d sonar and down imaging. BUT sometimes you can find a great deal on a new spotlight scan and it is cheaper than the hdi transducer and trolling motor adapter. When you mean "trick out" what are you looking to do? We have some great deals on new HDS gen3 boat in a box bundles that literally have everything you need to completely set up a boat.
What I have is a Triton 21X3 with Humminbird 1197 & 997 since 2009. Both are not worthwhile. Tricking out is my term for having this awesome fishing machine with Carbon units front and back. I want to maximize the complete potential of these units. So what I am looking for is any and all combinations of transducers that will give me that edge. Is it 3D Structure, SI, Sonar, and what is the best combination of transducers to go with it. Lowrance emails are useless since they refer to you; the dealer. This is their latest answer "LSS-HD is part number 000-10802-001. The HST-WSBL is a skimmer transducer that uses 83/200 kHz. Make sure you have CHIRP." So if I were to call your store, what should be on the shopping list? I would like to have it detailed. Pretend you are doing a boat that has no electronics. I have been thinking about getting a total scan for my HDS 7. With the unit I have now I have structure scan transducer and a skimmer transducer. Would I have to unhook one of those to use the total scan ? It is a Gen 3 touch

Nathan Woolford 3D imaging with the Totalscan is limited to about 150 feet maximum in salt water. The traditional & “Chirp” depth (2D as it’s called in this video) will work much deeper. I have seen it working at 250 feet, but doesn’t show a lot of detail beyond 200 feet deep. For saltwater use in water over 100 feet deep we usually install a thru hull transducer, and usually suggest switching to Simrad (Navico owns both Lowrance & Simrad). Simrad is more aimed at offshore saltwater use & Lowrance is mainly a freshwater and coastal unit. Hope this helps.

hook2-9 tripleshot will have one transducer. It's similar to the totalscan transducer for the elite ti and hds series of products. It's just as long as the totalscan but not nearly as wide.
3d isn't impressive and I have continued to state that, BUT the side imaging and down imaging using the 3d module and transducer is better than the lss2 transducer.

Gen3 units are touch units, and it is compatible with gen3 units. You will need to select the hdi transducer under your installation settings In your sonar section to utlilize all the hdi transducer functions.
Great video! I just have one question. I just purchased a Gen3 which came with a 83/200 ducer. Which set will give me a better image? The TotalScan or the bundle (LSS2 skimmer + 83/200)? I still have the felling that lss2+83/200 will do a better job than the "all-in-one" totalscan. What do you think? Thanks!
I just upgraded to the Lowrance 000-14489-001 Active Imaging 3-In-1 for my Nss Evo3. Do you know if I will also need the skimmer 83/200 transducer in order to take advantage of the fish reveal feature? From the manual it seems I will need both. Thanks in advance and great video!

Hello Justin, I just watched and subbed. You really cleared up a bunch of questions that I had. But I do have a question about the skimmer. I just purchased a new HDS7 gen3 that came with the lss2 for my new native titan 10.5 kayak. I mounted the LSS2 under the boat and after watching your vid I realized I need to use the other ducer also. So here is my question. If I epoxy the skimmer to the hull will it read water temps? And if no, can the LSS2 read water temps.
it will read water temps, but it will read the water temps from being epoxied in, not the direct water temp since it isn't in the water. We typically see the water temps off about a degree or so with the transducer being glassed in vs. mounted in the water.
Russell Marine Products, LLC Thanks for the response!! 1 or 2deg off isn’t to bad. The hull thickness is probably a fat 1/8th so the bottom will pretty much be the temp of the water. My lss2 is mounted toward the bow of the yak. Should the skimmer be mounted within the same area? I can either put it in the front bow just in front of the lss2 or I have Nice flat spot near the stern. Where do think it’s best?
Bought a carbon 5 years ago , screwed the transducers (had 2 on one cable) trying to find original transducers like trying to find guppies in a bass lake

with the 3d setup you will need to use the 3d module and transducer, it will cannot plug directly into the back of the unit itself.

Gen3 units are touch units, and it is compatible with gen3 units. You will need to select the hdi transducer under your installation settings In your sonar section to utlilize all the hdi transducer functions.

I just purchased a Gen3 which came with a 83/200 ducer. Which set will give me a better image? The TotalScan or the bundle (LSS2 skimmer + 83/200)? I still have the felling that lss2+83/200 will do a better job than the "all-in-one" totalscan. What do you think?

I just upgraded to the Lowrance 000-14489-001 Active Imaging 3-In-1 for my Nss Evo3. Do you know if I will also need the skimmer 83/200 transducer in order to take advantage of the fish reveal feature? From the manual it seems I will need both.

Thank you for being honest and giving us the complete 411 on these transducers. Well, this sucks because I really wanted to get into lowrance but the size and functionality of the transducer, I'm gonna stay with hummingbird
What transducer would you recommend for hds7 gen3. I mainly fish 30m to 70m for reef fish. Sounding ground at speed is essential.

Mostly will depend on application. For most bass boats, the 83/200 glassed in the hull and the lss2 mounted externally will be the best combination.

Hello Justin, I just watched and subbed. You really cleared up a bunch of questions that I had. But I do have a question about the skimmer. I just purchased a new HDS7 gen3 that came with the lss2 for my new native titan 10.5 kayak. I mounted the LSS2 under the boat and after watching your vid I realized I need to use the other ducer also. So here is my question. If I epoxy the skimmer to the hull will it read water temps? And if no, can the LSS2 read water temps.
it will read water temps, but it will read the water temps from being epoxied in, not the direct water temp since it isn't in the water. We typically see the water temps off about a degree or so with the transducer being glassed in vs. mounted in the water.

Thanks for the response!! 1 or 2deg off isn’t to bad. The hull thickness is probably a fat 1/8th so the bottom will pretty much be the temp of the water. My lss2 is mounted toward the bow of the yak. Should the skimmer be mounted within the same area? I can either put it in the front bow just in front of the lss2 or I have Nice flat spot near the stern. Where do think it’s best?
