I don’t understand why they would remove the oversampling, specially for something that causes so much aliasing. They also removed the limiter options and one of the bands. Hard pass for me.
Imagine a world where Izotope and NI never merged. NI would have been bought by a company that actually wanted to use their dj/synth wings. Izotope has no interest in anything other than Kontakt and thats obvious. And Izotope wouldnt have blown through a decade of profits in one deal, and probably wouldnt be desperately trying to sell us a low tier distortion unit to make up the lack of holiday n first quarter sales.
This is why I am mostly using ableton stock plug ins these days. Have already lost support for the 2 main synths I used past decade and it pushed me more towards stock use.

I don't understand why companies use such massively effected signal sources when you audition something. Give me a REAL instrument I have a point of sonic reference to please.
The serial waveshapers, extensive filtering/EQ, multiband compression/gate and delay were the things that made Trash 2 so great. It was just like Neutron, Ozone and Nectar, but instead of being a multi-effect focused on general mixing, mastering or vocal chains it was a multi-effect focused on distortion and all things dirty. You could use it as a multiband comp/gate, tape/tube/lo-fi/digital delay, convolution reverb or cab emulation, for the modulated non-linear filters, distortion of all kinds or all of the above at the same time. What a serious disappointment Trash 3 seems to be! Instead of trying to evolve the concept they managed to de-evolve it into just a single multiband waveshaper with an IR loader. I'm guessing that they had to ditch everything that was good about Trash 2 just to make it possible to use on iOS, but I don't get why they didn't just make a separate lite version for iOS instead.

I'm starting to think that the more utilitarian and sparse a plugins UI is the better the overall quality will be (Trash 2, anything by Melda). Unnecessarily fancy graphics or animated cartoons makes it look like the developers forgot to invest enough time in the product itself.
Trash 2 is the most artificial sounding saturation ever. Even Decapitator runs circles around it and only ever use modes A and E. I feel like other than RX which is great, I’ve wasted a lot of money on other izotope products over the years.
I bought it and it’s completely broken. Reinstalled it 3 times. It’s just a gray window in my Ableton. I’ve been trying to get customer support for 2 weeks and there’s no answer

They simply don't want to understand that they are losing a lot of potential customers because of a gui that is too small or not scalable. laugh my ass off about it.
I do like that it's $20 on the iPad version of Logic too. though, I Hope that's not a trend where you have to rebuy the plugins you like on the iPad version (who am I kidding)
I have been using isotope trash 2 as a part of my workflow for a long couple of years now. I recently got an M2 MacBook, and it does not allow me to even install the plug-in. If I was to purchase the new trash, is there some easy way for me to port over the settings from all plug-in instances of trash 2 in my projects to the new version? I’m also down to save the trash 2 configurations as presets and load them into trash if that’s possible
Trash2 might be my favourite plugin of all time. But the minute someone gets around to designing something similar with a better UI I'm over it... Almost bought this one, glad I watched this review first..

The new Trash is very disappointing. I used to live my Trash 2...but Minimal Audio's Rift 2 killed it for me, personally. New Trash is not going to change that anytime soon.
Maybe I should trash trash3 in a video to get 10k+ clicks…but so sad - I really liked it. Everything working perfectly and the presets/intuitive tweaking are great. For more details I addon my infected mushroom plugins..hard to beat that combo. But of course everybody must decide for himself.
Trash (3) isn't bad, just a bit disappointing. With what's available in Trash 2, it's not an improvement - not even incrementally - but pretty much a different product that stands on the shoulders of its namesake. For £30, it's fine, but if you are getting it at that price, you own Trash 2 and this doesn't offer anything compelling except a snazzier UI. Again, for what it is, it isn't bad, just a lost opportunity. At full price, there are better options. Like someone else said here, which I kinda agree with, is that they'll probably release an Advanced skew at some point which will have more parity with Trash 2. A risky move.

Trash 2 had some crazy distortion IRs available, so it's disappointing Trash 3 is very watered down from where it once was. If they ever have it on sale for $5-20 (not for an upgrade), I'd get it ONLY so that I don't have to run Rosetta 2 for Trash 2.
The cabinet IRs in Trash 2 were really garbage in reality. I had a flashback seeing "Allston 2x10". The fun ones were the tin can and others, but there are more extensive ones available as plugins. Or maybe I missed on "super secret techniques how PROs 🤯 use Trash 2".
I emailed izotope with a similar question regarding ozone, they said both versions would stay installed and they did, I can't confirm this about trash, but if you bought trash 2 when it was available you should still have access to the installer (just triple check it's on their site) and you activation code, so shouldn't be a problem
Just checked thier site and the trash 2 installer is still available under legacy downloads. It's a bit of a pain to navigate to that page, but it's there.

Okay hot take : Trash 3 isn't disappointing. We have just changed the way we produce since Trash 2. Trash 2 pre-dated a lot of these modern production techniques, with our aggressive serum/vital wave tables, our cymatics drums with the softclipper already on them, etc. : so back then, Trash 2 was this "whoa this is so cool" effect... but now, we get that aggression to our sound from other sources so ppl are like "oh its just a mid grade distortion plugin" : when in reality it always was, we just don't need that today.
None of what you said addresses them taking away sound design features or anything. Regardless of the current state of production, it looks to be a disappointing product.

iOS runs plenty of full powered desktop plug-ins. That’s not why they gimped it. Also, waveshapers don’t use any cpu power

Exception to the animated graphics are the Jack Dark plugins. Those are fucking awesome.
