    I think Oeksound might be calling out all of the bullshit prices in the industry. They believe their product is worth what they are selling it for. Other companies know that pricing something at 300 is insane and 99% of their sales will be every 3 months for 29.99

    I think 2 reasons bloom doesn't really blow anyone away is because it's essentially a super-nerfed spectral compressor, which can usually do awesome things 🫡 Unfortunately they went with a brown-noise profile which ontop of the smoothed out processing makes it feel rather underwhelming considering they likely have 2048 bands (bins) to work with here 😭

    Preface: analysis is not justification...just because I break down doesn't mean I agree or condone it.
    I can understand what Oeksound is referring to when they say that introductory sales are "almost predatory"...I feel they are referring to how a lot of introductory sales lean onto what is referred to as "impulse buys". Example: the reason you find candy at the checkout at your local grocery store is to get you to buy it because it's right there in the moment. It creates the same sense of urgency to buy it then because it would be much more laborious to buy it later. So while one may not want the candy when they first went to the store, the fact it is presented to them masked in the guise of convenience GETS you to buy something you didn't necessarily want or need.
    So that's probably what the Oeksound guy was referring to...but articulated it rather poorly.

    • @nickdriver8337
      @nickdriver8337 6 месяцев назад +1

      Sure, introductory sales, flash sales, and every other kind of time-limited sale can definitely be thought of as "predatory" in exactly the way you've described .. but trying to casually slip loyalty discounts into the same category like we are all too stupid to notice is what feels dishonest to me. I don't care if they don't want to do loyalty discounts, that's their decision and they don't have to justify it. But as the saying goes, "don't **** on my leg and tell me it's raining".

    I get where they're coming from. With the big companies there's always some wonky sale going on or special loyalty discount and no way to know what anything is actually valued at. Like $5000 worth of plugins for $250! Just an opportunity for them to use junk plugins to inflate the value of whatever the new hype is. It's questionable. I think Fab filter does loyalty discounts well and wish Oek did something like that.

    if you’re confident that the price reflects the effort that was put into the product, why would you start with a 50% sale? who would ever want to buy it after that? when a product is 50% off, it completely changes the perception of the value of it. feels like you’re artificially doubling the price, even though you could sell it at half off. I fully agree with companies like oeksound and fabfilter, because they make me feel like the product is worth what they’re asking.

    • @Weaverbeats

    The best way to say you don't do sales is to say you don't do sales, simple as without another word. Or just ignore the question. Walking someone through personal beliefs regarding sales is off-putting. "Like wow, you've made me realize what a swindle sales are. Thank you for opening my eyes."
    The only time I've seen an explanation look good is Valhalla saying they don't do sales so they can keep their normal prices low, because their normal prices actually are low for great & beloved products. Their prices are excellent; it's a cold, hard fact; when they point it out there is no denying it.

If you buy Bloom in the EU they charge 199 Euros and if you're not subject to VAT, you can use your VAT ID to lower that price to around 160 Euros. If you're a US customer buying Bloom you're charged 209 USD with no way to reduce that price even though VAT is not applicable to those outside the EU. So Oeksound is effectively charging US customers roughly $50 more per plugin for the privilege of buying their products. I have made Oeksound aware of this and they have zero interest in correcting it. This is absolutely reprehensible and no one from the US should purchase from Oeksound until they stop gouging US customers.

    I think some discounts can be bad for consumers. For example waves has their stuff always on discount and bundles, tempting people to buy the bundle even if you might not realy need most plugins in the bundle.
    Their low prices tempt users to buy many bundles, then after a few years a new OS update comes in and the plugins dont run anymore unless you buy an upgrade for 240 bucks.
    Meaning that over time (3 upgrades) the horizon bundle (~250 bucks) will end up costing you 970 dollars.
    Okesound's responce sucks, still i think some discounts can be bad for consumers

    Loyalty and intro prices are clearly predatory. Any price that is time limited is designed to create a sense of urgency and "potential missing out" feeling in the buyer. HOWEVER, a loyalty discount that is not time limited is in no way predatory.

      by that logic basically all sales are predatory

    • @vael_
      @vael_ 6 месяцев назад

      @@Weaverbeats That depends on what kind of sale it is though, most of these other plugin companies come out the gate with a 25-50% "intro sale" and then continue to give consistent sales which sucks because the original price they put is just a placeholder to make their "sale" seem like it's making an expensive product more accessible. It is in fact a tactic used to try to FOMO people into buying a product they otherwise probably wouldn't even think twice about. Waves is a perfect example of this, "Oh look their $50000 bundle is only $400 for this weekend only" when in reality they're just selling their $400 bundle for $400 while trying to make you think it's a 125x better value, literal mobile game microtransaction strat btw. The real problem here is that people think bloom is too expensive for what it is and will therefore flop completely unless they lower the price permanently.

    Bloom is rather unique and well developed. Soothdoes not do what bloom does. Bloom is not multiband or similar to anything. Don't like it don't buy it. I would have liked a introduction discount but to be fair they don't make stuff what is already out there. They have some great ideas about how to approach tone shaping. They force you to use ears as well. I have paid about 160 dollars and do like it very much. It's like nothing out there.

Something for the hobbyists with other forms of income other than music/producing. The six years obviously includes time spent on Smooth, Spiff etc.

  • @Beatsbasteln

    I believe that it took them 6 years to make bloom. i mean dude, it took me around half that time to make a vibrato plugin. and ok, i'm more of a beginner programmer & dsp engineer, but still I have a lot of knowledge about plugins and their processes in general so i'm not at an absolute disadvantage. what i wanna say is: 6 years is a reasonable amount of time for such a huge plugin. doesn't mean i want you to buy it or anything. i'm not even sure yet if I'm going to, but it does look useful. I just think it's a bit of a waste that their didn't add the sensitivity and sharpness controls from soothe. those were crucial for the tone shaping of that plugin and like, i gave them the idea some years ago that they could add the feature to soothe to compensate for the change in spectral distribution induced by all the cuts by adding optional wider band boosts. but now considering that this is a unique plugin it could also just give us the option to use sharp filters, cause why not.
    also no, oeksound is absolutely not crazy about sales artificially making things look urgent. idk how often it already happened that i wanted to have a plugin but already had no plugin-money left for the month and was really mad about that because i knew a sale is running out of time in a few days or so. that just sucks so hard. and they avoid that. how cool is that? they just don't make you feel that. i think that's cool.

Predatory like IK T-Racks “total complete final boss grand finale end game bundle” for $49.99 🤣 as a market reaction to UAD basically de-valuing their plugins and giving them away in order to earn subscriptions to drive revenue (because it just works) 😂 $209 nope. $99 maybe. Will it be lost among the COUNTLESS other “killer deal” plugins I’ve gotten and NEVER used? Yep. Will it help me finish songs and actually put stuff out? Nope. All these companies are predatory (to a point) all so your track can get SQUASHED onto spotify and played for 3 seconds and skipped because there was no “vibe” 🤣 but hey if you keep going and “follow your dreams” you too could earn .0003 per stream and by the year 2030 have generated enough from your streams to pay the $209 LIVING THE DREAM! BRING BACK TORRENTS.
