I went to some trouble to see Luka play in Madrid in 2017. He got tossed after six minutes, basically for good sportsmanship. After a flagrant foul was called against a defender, Luka went to the other team's bench and appeared to be saying that he was fine. The ref t'd him up for going over there and on the next play called a ridiculously tick-tacky foul. When Luka responded with his customary incredulity he was thrown out of the game for good. I and the rest of the Real Madrid crowd had exactly the same thoughts about this ref's failure of perspective, shall we say.

That reff have history, did it also with Terrence Mann, Jimmy, and third guy that i can't remember right now. This is a bad look for NBA. just minutes before Jokic ejection tech for THJ in Dallas - LAkers game was comical too
The important question not being asked is why are refs allowed to keep making egregious errors with out getting better. NBA officiating is hard but the refs are constantly getting worse and taking out their lack of good call making on players questioning it. Sure the NBA supposedly monitors every call. But that doesn't seem to be making the officiating any better. Players will always complain about calls but over all players actually have better cases to complain the past few years than decades past. Especially ones like Jokic, who's FG shooting stats prove he should be getting to the line more, if you compare them to league or all star averages.
NBA stands for National Basketball Association not NRA called National Referees Association. If a star player was ejected immediately because he smiled, looked at player, reacted on a wrong call. Then home arena should refund all tickets.
While giving Embid every game 12-15 FT, Nikola got kicked outta game by complaining about clear fouls. Did you saw the Scratchmarks on his arms? Looks like he fights Leopards every game.
Here's an idea. Stars of the game usually greeted with a Q&A. Let's get a Muck call of the game also get a Q&A. Fans vote for worst call of game and we know people will tune in for their response.
You think that Jokic is stupid and will use harsh words and swear words even when he is angry? One super intelligent player? This is a conspiracy against him
"Call the m-fing foul" should not be an ejection, especially when he was running the other direction while saying it. Technical sure, because NBA is sensitive now.
The bigger point was touched on by Jokic. Sometimes you say a bad word or just gripe and nothing happens, and then this. It cheapens the reputation of the refs if there’s no consistency, and confuses players and fans.
Refs are getting too thin skinned. There needs to be a line. Players verbally abusing refs can't be tolerated. But at the same time refs have to understand that if they miss or make a bad call, they're gonna catch some flack, and you can't go ejecting players cause you're all up in your feelings and don't think you should have to hear any criticism. Ejecting a player for one bad word is over the top. No one came to see the refs and they shouldn't let their feelings have any outcome on the game or hinder someone's MVP run.
How many of the refs friends and family bet on the under for Jokic’s points or assists etc? If you know you can throw a player out at halftime you can basically guarantee a win. I’m sure that has nothing to do with these executions tho
Tough question, should there be a tow-tier system for on court justice? Also, think about how fans feel when they come to see a superstar only to find them our for "load management." I recall the days of Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe when umpires had to endure outrageous verbal abuse since giving them the boot would have deprived the tourney of their star attraction. Wish I had the answers, I don't.
Way to go Rich! There's something thoroughly FLAWED with the reffing, throughout. in the playoffs, when it counts they really choke. And when you mention the EaST/wEST games. There's no realization of what is at stake. How does one get BETTER refs? Dunno. I turn games off once I see the refs NOT making basic calls like egregious FOULS. And people like Green should be thrown out. (Golden State Draemon Green) The 'enforcer' crap should have thrown out with Rudy Tomjanovch's career-ending broken jaw. This isn't the NFL, or is it?
Out of all of the big 4 North American sports (Basketball, Baseball, Football and Hockey), Basketball has the most out of control officiating. Not only do refs think they are more important than they actually are but when they make a bad call or miss an obvious call they do one of two things that just make things worse. They either 1.) Just brush it off and act like it was the right call (which just pisses off the team impacted by the call) or 2.) They use that mistake to do “make up calls”, which further skews play because Basketball is a game of runs (this tends to piss of both because the balance of the game is further screwed with). And the fact that the league doesn’t seem to crack down on this crap is absurd, it’s like Angel Hernandez still being allowed to umpire ANY game of baseball.
The post game hardest line is "I'm glad we didn't play in Serbia." That would have started a riot on the court, and the refs would be in the hospital.
If anyone has watched film of a basketball game in Serbia. You'd know this is true.

compare nikola's reaction to a terrible call to mahomes reaction to a proper call. that's one of the many reason's jokic is so easy to root for.
This is a high level game with grown men. If your a little, efeminate man that happens to be ref in the leauge, don't eject people because your feelings were hurt.
it goes with power. In any profession, once they give you any amount of authority, they will abuse that power, cuz they can't be criticized for their performance, ever and once you do, their ego takes over!!
Pretty sure swearing at a ref isnt enough for even one T
But Refs and Adam Silver said otherwise. They said people pay to see the refs.
Two problems league is woke.
And sports betting saved/ruined North American sports
yes, sport betting is why NBA fans are obsessed with stats, they dont care about the game anymore
Joker said just as much as other stars, but only he gets thrown out.
The Refs have to cover their bets.....
This is a conspiracy against him
Everyone said he cursed. You are delusional if u think otherwise
In his response after the game Jokic said sometimes "that word" doesn't get a tech so it's clear he swore, I believe he said "motherf*cker"
"Call the m-fing foul" should not be an ejection, especially when he was running the other direction while saying it. Technical sure, because NBA is sensitive now.
Should of said those words in Serbian
It's like if the security kicked the singer out of his/her own concert because the security guard's feelings were hurt.
The refs should have a judge to evaluate their performance at the games who could have authority to reverse a bad call.
Ref knew he blew the call and got insulted, a bit defensive, and doubled down on his own mistake. Geesh
The bigger point was touched on by Jokic. Sometimes you say a bad word or just gripe and nothing happens, and then this. It cheapens the reputation of the refs if there’s no consistency, and confuses players and fans.
REFS HAVE BEEN MAKING IT ABOUT THEM LAST FEW YEARS..IN ALL SPORTS🤔
Same problem is with Luka.
Frustrating.
"CALL THE FOUL, MF!" - that's what he said.
So is this how to start doing load management. Suit the players then have them insult the ref and head to locker room
He said mfer!
Bull Durham: Ump "Call me a CS one more time.
Crash Davis: "You're a CS"
Refs are getting too thin skinned. There needs to be a line. Players verbally abusing refs can't be tolerated. But at the same time refs have to understand that if they miss or make a bad call, they're gonna catch some flack, and you can't go ejecting players cause you're all up in your feelings and don't think you should have to hear any criticism. Ejecting a player for one bad word is over the top. No one came to see the refs and they shouldn't let their feelings have any outcome on the game or hinder someone's MVP run.
He told that MF'er to call the foul!
How many of the refs friends and family bet on the under for Jokic’s points or assists etc? If you know you can throw a player out at halftime you can basically guarantee a win. I’m sure that has nothing to do with these executions tho
Fire Adam Silver. Useless commissioner. Giving tech on superstars and quick ejection shows poor leadership.
He reportedly said “call the foul motherf er” 😂
Reported he said 'call the f-ing foul, m-f'.
i think Jokic said after...why tech,why...for saying ....call the m..f..ing faul
@@srdjanj6867 Either way he shouldn't have been ejected.
Agree 100% just saying he did not even tell the ref that he is mf, he said the no faul call is mf...big diference
There are already rules against load management.
As long as they run ANYBODY for the same word not just who they want to !
That was one of the most bogus T's I have seen, that ref should be fired immediately.
Great podcast, thanks.
Farce... Labronda does far worse... he does a whole soap opera at least 3-4 times every game I've held my nose to watch him lose.
So for saying a curse word which no one else can hear. You kick out the mvp, this is Adam silvers lame league
The judge is not a man, they say in Serbia
I grew up in pittsburgh and if i hear the words hey a__-_h__e I think someone is calling me.
maybe Syrians dont like Serbians---
Not to mention that the refs won't call the fouls against him.
Refs sending the All-Stars (they are the only ones to argue with them) a message, act like rookies real quick.
