That's one of the many things I miss about VN, the sense of community. In many other cities, such a place would be pretty much be full of tourists and much fewer locals, other than the employees of shops/restaurants/cafes. VN's larger cities have these large gathering places (squares, parks, river fronts, etc.) that would right next to tourist hotels but they would be full of local neighborhood residents, with their children, milling about and enjoying the cool/warm evenings. And those places would have great eateries and cafes too.
There's a reason why Bourdain loved Vietnam. Sonny from the Best Ever Food Review Show located there as well as Max McFarlin after they've traveled or lived in various countries. Check out Max's channel as well as Chris Lewis, Vietnam Meets Dustin, and Phuc Map. :)

I am in the US but I am Vietnamese and will definitely supporting any channel provide good content and love my home country. The US is my home country as well.

Vietnam is my favorite country too. I haven't been to as many countries as you. My count is close to 25. But out of those countries, I still think about Vietnam more than any other.
