    Arts District
Downtown LA Arts District - Mention art galleriesThe Arts District is a neighborhood on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles, California. Largely composed of industrial buildings dating from the early 20th century, the area has recently been revitalized, and its street scene slowly developed in the early the 21st century. New art galleries have increased recognition of the area amidst the entire downtown where other art museums are found.
    Gentrification DTLA
Challenges facing the district today include the loss of affordable live/work lofts, artists, and historically significant buildings. Community leaders are struggling to create balance amidst the economic issues brought about by gentrification and the need to preserve the character of the Arts District as a creative community that has made contributions to the cultural and economic well-being of the city for decades. In 2014, the average annual income for neighborhood residents was $120,000. While the initial decades saw the conversion to residential and commercial uses of low-slung warehouses and industrial spaces, downtown zoning laws could be rewritten to permit the heights of buildings to double, allowing up to 1,500 new residential units to be built in eight-story, one hundred feet edifices.
Office buildings decorated + Building with big pop culture mashup
The reason that this area became what it is today is because in the mid-70s many artists had been priced out of areas such as Venice and Hollywood therefore a handful of artists saw an opportunity in the empty buildings and began colonizing the area, converting former industrial and commercial spaces into working studios, sometimes renting space for as little as a three cents a square foot and creating living quarters. This resulted in a surge of artistic activity including many buildings getting murals to them. This tradition has continued throughout the decades, and because of that businesses tend to one up each other with intricate art. One of the buildings that really stood out for me was this huge mural showing various elements of pop culture, including highlights of important events that happened in the past century as well as caricaturing some well-known entities that make up Hollywood and its filmmaking history.
Outter Body Experience Mural (Carly Ealey)
This mural is actually called 'Soul Traveler' and was painted by Carly Ealey who is a self-taught fine artist, muralist, and photographer based out of San Diego. With a natural inclination to painting portraits and figures of women in her work, Carly’s work often veers to the seductive and celestial while exploring an introspective view of human existence, spirituality, and the natural world. As for this mural, it is located on the corner of Seaton and 5th and was painted live during The Container Yard's Fresh Coat Mural Fest with Hansen's Soda in October of 2017, According to the artist the mural is a visual representation of Astral Projection. Carly used reference photos she photographed herself of her friend and model Tracy Thalo to create this out of body experience artwork.
    Kobe Bryant Mural DTLA
This mural was painted by a Korean artist who is known as Royyal Dog. He is best known for his photorealistic murals of African American women in traditional Korean hanbok. Shim started gaining recognition in 2016 for his murals featuring rap icons and multiculturalism in the United States. Even though this mural is amazing there are actually dozens of Kobe Bryant mural around Downtown LA and even more throughout America. This really shows the fandom and impact that he had on Basketball. As for Graffiti Art - Street Art.
    Angel City Brewery
One building that I wanted to highlight in the Arts district is the angels Brewery which was founded in 1997. This red brick building has stood here for over a hundred years and really stands out primarily by its very central location but also because of how massive it is. And even though this building is old many other buildings in this district are over a century old, and by LA standards this makes it a historical building.

Oooooh wooooow! I think you already know how much I love street art SO... obviously I loved so much your video! What great pieces of art out there. And as a Lego fan I also loved the wall at 6:07, it's like a wall of Lego bricks with all these colors, so beautiful! Thank you so much for this video, it goes directly to one of my favorites 💖

Oh yeah, the wall at 6:07 does resemble a Lego brick wall. LA has a really big amount of street art. I actually was thinking about you while filming there because I know you love this type of artwork. Maybe we can go to the Graffiti place in Antwerp one day. I remember you mentioning it. I'd love to see it.

Yes, I hope so too. The mural that you speak of will probably be there for a long time. It's in a great location and seems to be well protected.

Okay, give me some time and I'll add the locations of the art in the description of this video. I'll answer the message when it's done. Although if you are in a rush to go start at the Angel City Brewery located at 216 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Once there go opposite from Little Toyko and into the arts district. Once you're in the are district most walls are filled with art. It's pretty amazing.

I enjoyed it but your art districts walk but I appreciate to put some corrections in there and I know they're appropriate so hopefully you won't need to erase my truths thank you in advance 🙂
