So much high quality free museums in LA. I have never been to the Getty center, but it looks more roman than rome. Great video in finding and showing us our culture in Los Angeles.
i'm biased cause i work for the library but i second what another commenter said about Central Library in downtown. It might even count for being another free museum, since we have a number of galleries with different rotating exhibits every few months. My favourite (no longer available, sadly) was about unique hyperspecific social clubs around LA: The Breakfast Club, Cloudwatcher's Club, Pigeon Rollers, among others... it really showed me how many unique communities exist in the city. What you said at the end about doing the things you want to do before it's too late really touched me, because having worked at various library branches in LA, I had this goal in mind of wanting to visit all 72 of them... now they are 71, because sadly Pacific Palisades branch was completely destroyed, before I ever had the chance to visit it. We have a fundraiser to rebuild it, if you check out the top banner on the Library Foundation website, but it will still take a long time to get there, and the beautiful old building with its painted murals and collection of books is gone. I wish I had seen it.
Repping the best of LA, as always. Thanks for the reminders of what a great place this is, and for the words of wisdom on how to survive and help others thive.
Appreciate all you do with these videos by showing us how to appreciate culture in accessible ways and show how we can contribute to help with the LA Fires.
Heres a few spots to recommend. The dtla central library. Its an amazing 7 level bldg with amazing architecture inside and out. Plus, a giftshop inside. The last bookstore where on 2nd level there are tiny art galleries. All free. All metro accessible. Nobody walks in LA. Except the cool.
yes! plus the central library always has the museum with rotating exhibits on the second floor. I would also wanna add griffith observatory and the holocaust museum at the pan pacific park
I love seeing Los Angeles on foot. You see so much more character when you use public transportation, bike, or walk. I live in D.C. and love free museums. Thanks for this!
I used to work as a Museum Guide at the IAMLA, Adobe, Chinese American museum, etc. It sounds like you spoke to my former colleague Rick! He’s awesome, a great storyteller and SO knowledgeable. I miss him! So glad you had that experience at the IAMLA.
*the other MOCA/ Geffen Contemporary is in Little Tokyo. In OC, the OCMA museum in Costa Mesa is also free and pretty cool if a bit small in scope. Love your videos!
An awesome idea that combines this video and your previous metro vids could be visting all the metro rail stations and viewing the specific art/design of each station since they're all uniquely decorated
great video! i did not realize that the getty center was free some art galleries and museums that i’ve been to that have been free in LA: 1) los angeles municipal art gallery in barnsdall art park near hollywood, 2) blum gallery in culver city, 3) exhibit spaces in the la central library in downtown, and 4) the museum/display portion (?) of the griffith observatory
I work at the Getty Center and we love our Getty deer, so I loved the clip of the deer fighting. I've never seen them on that hillside! We have indeed reopened. I haven't been to the Villa and many of the museums on this list, whereas others like the Fowler and Hammer sent me on trips down memory lane. Thanks for this video.
you should check out the autry museum in griffith park! it’s right across from the zoo. they have free afternoons tues/wed. in my opinion it’s worth paying admission fee though. most of their exhibits are a native perspective of american western history. everyone should go!
Hey Brian do you know Michael Martello another LA/CA youtuber who's also originally from NY area? You guys should do a collab. First assignment "search for Tom Explores Los Angeles". Tom is the original(in my book) LA documentarian/vlogger, since 2011, but hasn't done anything since 2021). He's mia. It's an assignment only you two ex-New Yoikers can do.
@@trexinvert yes I see his Instagram videos for latimes.404. I also hope he returns to YT. Had the pleasure of going to a Santa Monica tour he was the guide of.
Loved this, I would love to see Olvera street again. We would go across from Union Station between trains as a child going to Grandmother's in Campbell.
Love that a lot of these museums addressed climate change and that the effects of climate change actually made it into the video. Thank you for addressing that
The king has returned

It’s sad the way things are changing 😞. But there’s again opportunity for new growth 🫶

LA is actually home to more museums and galleries than any other city in the US
Getty is my favorite!!
It was so cool! Excited to go back. Have you ever gone to the summer concerts there?
@ not specifically for summer concerts but that sounds like a great experience to check out. Maybe I’ll go this upcoming summer!
Loved this, I would love to see Olvera street again. We would go across from Union Station between trains as a child going to Grandmother's in Campbell.
Fantastic, thank you. Next time you could include FIDIM, free Oscar costumes and more.
The MOCA Geffen in Little Tokyo [not to be confused with Chinatown] is free each month on the first Friday!
Thank you for catching that!
Hey, for the train nerds, or parents just looking for a place to take the kids for a while, Travel Town in Griffith Park is great.
Great video, learned about a couple museums that I never heard of. Fyi, the other MOCA is in Little Tokyo not Chinatown.
I give this video a 5 out of 5
Aw thanks!
Absolutely
Hey man love the videos! Super informative and entertaining! Quick question, where do you get your sunglasses from? They look awesome!

It was 🔥. Stand right across from the plaza on a Sunday
Love that a lot of these museums addressed climate change and that the effects of climate change actually made it into the video. Thank you for addressing that
Unfortunate, but it is bound to happen 🫤

As someone who last went to the Science Center using public transit, I’m loving the LA videos
Actually I almost exclusively use public transit in DTLA
We are so back
This must’ve been before the fires.
I don't drive. I've taken the Metro to the Villa a few times.
How was it?
This challenge shows you can’t reach these museums by bus T_T
No! You can! I swear!
