- La región de Napoli acuñó un género de canción para voz (habitualmente masculina), acompañamiento instrumental, letra en dialecto de la tierra y temática amorosa o paisajística del sur de Italia.
Las canciones napolitanas fueron popularizadas por los emigrantes y en razón de la interpretación que hicieron de ellas los mejores tenores (Caruso, Di Stefano, Bergonzi, Gigli, Schipa, Corelli, Mario Lanza, Pavarotti...)
"Core, core 'ngrato" ( o "Catari, Catari") es obra del emigrante y pianista Salvatore Cardillo (1874-1947) en 1911, con letra del poeta Alessandro Sisca (seudónimo, Riccardo Cordiferro). Fue escrita en New York para Caruso.

I really appreciate your channel. It's intersting how Hvorostovsky of all ( I am sure he speaks great Italian no doubt but it's still his second or thrid language I suspect).....I hear him singing every word and meaning it. Their approaches are so very different obviously depending on their personality and artistry and their renditions are all impressive to say the least but I see that I favor Carreras and Hvorostovsky. I used to only listen to Pavarotti!

Il mio tenore favorito e Pavarotti, ma questa volta, per me c'e stato Careras, con tanta sensibilita, commovente e naturale. I love this Italian art song and I love all the renditions here. Young Carreras' studio recording is probably my favorite, but it's not featured here, just his live recital recording in which he's still in very good voice except for that last forced high note. The others are all good,too. Thank goodness, Elvis didn't record this and ruin it!
