If I didn't know better I would say this is an example of how a Neapolitan song can only be sung properly by a Neapolitan. He obviously understands what he's singing. In that black shirt he even looks Italian. I pity young tenors today who have to measure up to his standard. I thought I would never again know a tenor so multi-talented as Domingo.
Finally someone has defined the differences between Kaufmann and the Italian tenors,here the comparison with Corelli is correct, I heard Corelli in the house and it was this squillante and the ringing top notes which drove us happily to madness. I admire K. as an artist but he doesn't thrill me like so many of the great Italian tenors.
You need to listen a little more, Corelli's middle register was a LOT squillante (brighter) plus his high notes were flawless... Corelli was unique but I recognize Kaufman has a pretty good voice, too. It is not identica!!!!
