Great frame of Artie at 2:18, he's basically a sad clown through the whole series and it's all there in this frame! Plus he has this old-fashioned attitude somehow, the way he gestures and his expressions for example, makes me think of old black and white movies.. Very good performance by a minor actor in the show!
Truly amazing….. artie looking like a sad silent movie clown as he realises how pathetic he’s been with adrianna, Johnny sack looking truly emotional as an older guy he has direct emotional links to the old country as the younger ones don’t have a clue, Carmela just looks so tired when junior mentions not going to prison as it’s almost a tired resignation of being in this mafia world, Bobby crying like a proud dad….. it’s just amazing.
Powerful scene. I loved Adriana asking Sil’s wife what core ‘ngrato meant. After Sil’s wife tells Adri, “ungrateful heart,” we see Sil’s hand bring his wife closer. Sil was at least more grateful for his wife than Christopher was of Adri.
The way Johnny Sack exhales as Junior begins to sing 'Core ngrato' the 2nd time shows how intense and powerful he felt at that particular moment surrounded by fellow American Italians who came from the old country.

Most of us first and second generation immigrants cry like that for a reason. Our Parents or grandparents would often bring with them and play the music from the old country, and we as kids would often sit there and listen and enjoy it with them as they remembered home. Those are the reasons for the tears for most of the people in this scene and why Adriana and the younger ones are not as in touch with the moment. This means more than just singing.
Well, there's a difference between shedding some tears and full out bawling. They did specify at the wedding reception that it was the fact that he cried "like a woman".

This is something unique about this series that you cannot see the importance of the scenes when you watch only once. Look at the 3:49 for example, perfect scene, stupidness vs class, gum vs frigidity.
That's the complete opposite of the messages this show portrays. You aren't supposed to idolize these people. They're Americans that hold on to a heritage that's superficial at best, as shown in the episode where they actually go to Italy
Woke up to The Sopranos after 39 years of being alive. Was about to give up in season 3. Then, this moment came up. I am not italian, I don’t understand a thing. This moment though, it felt surreal and I cried along with the characters on the screen. Just wanted to bookmark this moment here. I wanted to give up The Sopranos because it is too dark and I felt it was seeping into my veins. I was giving up The Sopranos. I won’t now. What. A. Moment. Johnny Sack shot, made me lose it. The Sopranos. Before. Everything. Love from India
This scene was just something else. Every now and then I come back and watch this clip, just captured something really special. Then again, The Sopranos did that a lot!
Caterina, Caterina, why do you say those bitter words? Why do you speak and torment my heart, Caterina? Don't forget, I gave you my heart, Caterina, don't forget. Caterina, Caterina, why do you come and say those words that hurt me so much? You don't think of my pain, you don't think, you don't care. Ungrateful heart, you have stolen my life. Everything is finished and you don't care any more! Catarí', Catarí' you do not know that even in church I bring my prayers to God, Catari. And I recount my confession to the priest: "I am suffering from such a great love." I'm suffering, I'm suffering from not knowing your love, I'm suffering a sorrow that tortures my soul. And I confess, that the Holy Mother spoke to me: "My son, let it be, let it be."
What too many people forget in this scene is that Meadow is in the right. It is a testament to the writing that so many disregard this and are swept up in the moment.
@@sumcallmejesus Yeah but she was still sad he was dead, everyone else at the funeral is just there for the food. Rosalie is also sad to but Meadow wasn't angry at her anyway.
Reminds me of Irish funerals. Pure traditional music, never seen any of the older men in my family cry but it’s the only time I feel comfortable crying when the folk songs come out at the funerals. Just knowing it’s the same songs that will get sung when my own parents die hits different. 🇮🇪❤️🇮🇹
Instead she is the one who knows everything. She doesn't bear the hypocrisy: she know that Jackie was killed by someone that was in the same room, person who criyng for one song but doesn't make problem to kill a young kid. David Chase outlines perfectly the hypocrisy in this scene.
Meadow is the hypocrite. She covered for Jackie dealing drugs and skipping classes and wrote a paper for him. Tony told Jackie not to join the mafia. Jackie murdered Sunshine whilst high on drugs. And shot at others trying to kill them. He had to die at that point. Meadow loves when her father pays for her tuition and clothing with mafia money.
@@Howard.Stern. Matteo Rancid I love it when tony chases her, and she spins around. Her eyes, her hair, her expression. the Italian women that Tony was drawn to. Tony was actually scared of her at that moment. Can’t blame meadow for coming to terms with the realities of her family.
I dont know how David Chase could create a scene this brilliant. How...I’m a “writer” myself and this is...just leaps and bounds ahead of anything I could come up with. @@VCthaGOATdunker Not here. Her family is made of hypocrites. Carmella cant stand the life but she continues to buy the things she wants with Tony's money. Tony and his crew ordered the death of Jackie junior and all the while at his funeral, wake, and after lunch in everyone mopes and embraces their culture but Meadow sees the bullshit. As they all sit there and enjoy the music Meadow understands that everything going on around her is a product of self denial and acceptance of their culture to the point of ignorance.
It's actually very fucked up. The people responsible for Jackie's murder (no sympathy for him either) are in the very same room. This is so beautiful😭😭
Great frame of Artie at 2:18, he's basically a sad clown through the whole series and it's all there in this frame! Plus he has this old-fashioned attitude somehow, the way he gestures and his expressions for example, makes me think of old black and white movies.. Very good performance by a minor actor in the show!
yes!
Nice catch. He definitely has that "sad clown" face in that moment
he reminds me of a mime
He's sad because he's in love with Adriana
And he has a lovely voice too.
I'm continually amazed by the acting and directing of this show. Fifteen different things happening in one scene with almost no dialog. wow.
You caught that much props 👍
Sil cheated on his wife all the time they just didn’t show it
best fucking show on tv ever , so many layers and characters .
The way Johnny Sack exhales as Junior begins to sing 'Core ngrato' the 2nd time shows how intense and powerful he felt at that particular moment surrounded by fellow American Italians who came from the old country.
'He's shitfaced' you're on pretty wobbly legs yourself there Meadow

"Core 'ngrato" -"Ungrateful Heart" - One of the most beautiful songs ever presented on TV.
Johnny Sack cry is touching :(
he was good boss, fair. leotardo was a bull head
Frédéric Chopin I cried like a baby when he get arrested at his daugther's wedding... Johnny Sack is one of my favourite characters ever.
Frédéric Chopin and no one bats an eye. but when he cries at his daughter's wedding...
Well, there's a difference between shedding some tears and full out bawling.
They did specify at the wedding reception that it was the fact that he cried "like a woman".
Dominic Chianese was fantastic. He had the makings of a singer
One of my favorite scenes from the entire series. Beautifully done
Just beautiful, brilliant.
Yes it just nails those late night family moments
"What's that mean, Core 'ngrato?"
"Ungrateful shinebox."
It means: "Sit on this, cocksucker |--------->"
Junior's a tenor or baritone at best. Never had the makings of a mezzo-soprano
It was written for tenor (by Cardillo, 1911), so I don't understand this comment. It's been sung in the classical world by all voices but tenors dominate. There are many, many fantastic renditions here on youtube. For all voices.
@@yirgster9842i’m pretty sure the joke is that he’s referencing juniors line about not having the makings of a varsity athlete

You can see how close the cast was IRL. It played beautifully into this scene.
This is something unique about this series that you cannot see the importance of the scenes when you watch only once. Look at the 3:49 for example, perfect scene, stupidness vs class, gum vs frigidity.
johnny sacks reaction though at 3:45 so beautiful!!!!
One of the most wholesome moments in the series. They're mobsters, but at their core they're Italian. Beautiful.
Very well said, exactly my thoughts
That's the complete opposite of the messages this show portrays. You aren't supposed to idolize these people. They're Americans that hold on to a heritage that's superficial at best, as shown in the episode where they actually go to Italy
@@plasticfacedvillian4779 Oh yeah, definitely. They're criminals.
The song's actually in Neopolitan, and though it is similar it's not Italian.
Lol... At their core, they're vicious animals... Did you even watch the show??
Woke up to The Sopranos after 39 years of being alive. Was about to give up in season 3. Then, this moment came up. I am not italian, I don’t understand a thing. This moment though, it felt surreal and I cried along with the characters on the screen. Just wanted to bookmark this moment here. I wanted to give up The Sopranos because it is too dark and I felt it was seeping into my veins. I was giving up The Sopranos. I won’t now. What. A. Moment. Johnny Sack shot, made me lose it. The Sopranos. Before. Everything.

Everybody is a tough guy until Junior starts singing.
Having Johnny Sac cry was such a nice touch! Really humanized him!
What too many people forget in this scene is that Meadow is in the right. It is a testament to the writing that so many disregard this and are swept up in the moment.
What was she right about?
@@sumcallmejesus She was mocking the funeral because no one else actually gave a shit about Jackie except her.
@@Conoert she dumped him. And wasn’t Jackie’s mom there too?
@@sumcallmejesus Yeah but she was still sad he was dead, everyone else at the funeral is just there for the food. Rosalie is also sad to but Meadow wasn't angry at her anyway.
She had realized that Kelly was right and that some of the very people in that room who were “paying their respects were the ones who killed Jackie
Even Ralphie shuts the fuck up when Junior sings 😅
Good thing Phil Leotardo wasn't there to see Johnny sac cry
Ken Anderson to cry like a woman ?!

Luca Di Stefano whoa

Reminds me of Irish funerals. Pure traditional music, never seen any of the older men in my family cry but it’s the only time I feel comfortable crying when the folk songs come out at the funerals. Just knowing it’s the same songs that will get sung when my own parents die hits different. 🇮🇪❤️🇮🇹
This was one of the few times in the show I hated Meadow even more than A.J.
"Tony told Jackie not to join the mafia" ok and thats Meadows fault how? she knew nothing about that. in her eyes Jackie was just another kid fucking around. at what point did Tony tell Meadow to make sure Jackie doesnt join her fathers (there is no mafia) mafia or tell him hes up to shit?
@@asromamarcord120 yo be fair, jackie had it coming to him
Matteo Rancid I love it when tony chases her, and she spins around.
The hypocrisy of the family in crying while remembering the very heritage that they betrayed. Meadow is the only one who sees through this scene of self pity.
In more ways then one too, Bc they literally killed Jackie jr 😂
They’re crying because they’re proud to be Italian and their parents were most likely first generation immigrants. Meadow doesn’t see through the self pity she’s just understand how the cultural ties that all the elders have with juniors music
Meadow is an insufferable little shit.
He had a whole team of writers to help him
In such a dark show filled with murders and violence, this moment right here is one of the most beautiful, heartwarming scenes.
It's actually very fucked up. The people responsible for Jackie's murder (no sympathy for him either) are in the very same room. I don't remember if Vito was in the room but that would've been the icing on the cake. Only Meadow gets it, it's all bs. That's why she is my favorite female character of the series.

No one in the comment section below gets it that Meadow is actually the most devastated person in the entire room and her childish acting out is a façade for the terrible pain she feels (Great scene by David Chase)
And she felt this whole performance was too lighthearted for such a tragic loss of life
