Bayardo A Rugama you don’t really need to use both XLRs from the mixer, microphones are already mono and as long as you leave serato in mono you’ll be fine with a single XLR from mixer to speaker.
+Dennison DeNatalie Not necessarily true, assuming you were to run mono from the main out from the mixer. You would still need to run a quarter or another XLR to do a parallel from the 1st speaker to the next.
Bayardo A Rugama hey you didnt link the case for the mixer...
Bayardo Rugama @djbarr 8:23 what case are you using for the mixer
i guess Im asking randomly but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can give me!
This is the best explanation I’ve ever seen. I feel like other people just don’t know how to explain or I just don’t understand them
My favorite part of the wedding is also cocktail hour. I pretty much have a similar setup. I like the cocktail hour cause it gives you a chance to mingle with you guests. I will always have a playlist of EVERYTHING, meeting with the couple a minimum of 3x beforehand... Yet, we all know there are songs that guests may request. So when mingling, you can get a feel for what your guests like.
Having 3000 plus shows under my belt, I have a good read on my crowd but never judge a book... so again mingling during the cocktail hour has helped a lot.
Great videos. I never thought of keeping vlogs of my work. Maybe something I need to think about.
As I go into my 20th year in business I guess there isn’t much left...lol
Keep up the great work!!
Great explanation Barr, these are the details new DJ's and guests just don't think about. I'd honestly have to say the clarity of your voice sounds better on your wireless. The wired mic sounds muffled a bit. I notice that at my own gigs and I have to basically crank my wired mic where the wireless you have multiple controls (usually) for the volume. I know you use your DJM-800 mixer at your gigs but I primarily take my controller out to gigs. Having my 8 channel mixer is a huge help, especially with mic's. Theres only one mic jack on the controller and it's not exactly top quality to begin with, so I run my controller and mic's all through the 8 channel. I'll use my laptop and the mixer to play the 4 songs (we play one for the signing of the registry), with the mic(s) hooked up (if they want them), and one speaker behind the crowd. I put it behind because I want to keep a clean photo for the guests taking pictures, and not have a speaker in the shot.
Anyway great vid, keep up the good work!
Like Hosa but Love LiveWire cables. Lifetime warranty. As a pro this is key. Also I use a white mic stand on ceremonies. Cable breaks? Guitar Center will exchange on site with LiveWire. We always set in the back to stay out of the pictures and any view on ceremony. Lav mic is also important! Lastly, always ask if there are readers on ceremony - you may need more than one mic and stand.
Dave which Lav mic do you use and do you think there is a need for two (one for the officiant and one for the groom) or will the one the officiant has pick up the bride and grooms voices? Thanks in advance.
Malcolm Scales We Carry just one Lav Mic and two white mic stands.
FWIW, all our cables also come with a lifetime warranty. We've also known most dealers to be accommodating with customers who purchased from them and take up the warranty issue with us directly.
Nice to see Hosa come out with better cables. Their lower end cables definitely weren’t worth it. I have Planet Waves, Monster, and Mogami cables. I use the Planet Waves for 1/4” inputs, Monster for handheld mics, and Mogami for fixed mics and input/outputs. I’ve had and used these cables for over a decade without a failure. My key is proper handling. I twist the cable when rolling them up so it doesn’t stress the inner conductor and use cable ties.
Excellent video! One of your best ones to date, imo.
Excellent video. Weddings are work, but it sets the tone for a great night. I appreciate your thoroughness and professional set up!
Barr you made an little mistake ! Phantom Power is only used in Condenser Mics (normally the ones used in Recording Studios) ! mics Like the Shure SM 58 And Beta 58 doesn't need Phantom Power !
Fernando Sacher thanks I need the info
Agreed lol... using phantom on a mic that doesn't require WILL NOT HURT but it's not right.
Shure 87 needs Phantom. But yeah, most handhelds don’t.
I Always watch your videos because I can see myself doing what you do keep up the good work
Great tutorial, although been already doing many of similar practices, definitely always learn something new. One thing I do for Ceremony & Cocktail set ups, my Ceremony/Cocktail speaker has velcro and so does my mic receiver & iPad/Tab, so it can just stick straight on a speaker for a lighter set ups and to secure the gear, specially during the cocktail hour when using the iPad/Tab and not around to see if someone knocks it off, plus it looks a bit neater imo. Cheers
Thank you so much for this video. Answered many of my questions.
Great video as always , for ceremony I do use a battery speaker with a battery pack for the mic receiver the handheld already has battery and for the music I do use and iPad connected via Bluetooth less hassle and quick setup, keep the good work
Vitamin String Quartet is your friend for those you guys are lazy and don't wanna dig for tracks. Classical adaptations of pop tunes are their bread and butter. Piano Guys is fine, but a little overly dramatic for wedding pre-service music. Good for postludes though.
Good helpful video. Always inspiring to do better thanks!
Great video man. Say Hi to my bro DJ Red El Colorao from Connecticut... you rock bro.
very informative bro, i appreciate all the tips has helped out a lot
Nice video Barr ! I would just add a wireless lav mic to your video audio to sound more legit . I know you normally speak to your camera up close. But for the wider shots . Idk maybe in the future lol . Keep it up bro .
I got a tip for you.....SERATO PYRO....it’s a free app they have....it’s a great tool to use when you don’t have to “mix” because it mixes for you...I’ve used it before and it does a great job...it blends and it does echo outs...I’ve also used it as an emergency back up in case my gear decides to crap on me when I am live...it will continue to play music and do some basic blends.....ALSO been watching for awhile and notice you have a PIONEER DJM 850....why don’t you use the usb from the mixer and ditch the rane box and then run your CDJ’s on HID mode?? Let me know what you think....love the vids...I feel a lot of people bite your steeze on you vids...just means you are killing it and they wanna be like you...good job bro
Only 5 mins into video already an awesome video with great advice that is extremely helpful. I'm a nee sub :) thaknks man
Hey Bar! You should never use a stereo 3.5mm to 1/4' TRS ( Balanced) to connect your computer to the mixer!!! This would result in you losing all the low frequencies, because especially the low frequencies are exactly the same in both L and R channels. 3.5mm to Dual 1/4" is always the way to go!
Nuno Cipriano Sax so use a 3.5mm to dual TS 1/4 cable?
Love this video
Load in, then check in with official people. I set up in order of need or as it happens. If the ceremony is first for me, then I am there first. Everything MUST work at the ceremony, so I need to make sure by setting that first. You mentioned that you keep your speaker (ceremony) close to you. I try to get the speaker close to the front so sound comes naturally from where the officiant and B/G are.standing. love your vids
Issue with Jersey venues is that people LOVE the outside, so running cabling across a floor so that it goes out to the crowd makes sense, but we really cannot do that very often.
Great and helpful video. Thanks.
Thanks for the good tips barr
You killed this video
Love your style brother. Thanks for all the expert knowledge. peace.
Very very useful tips !!’
Excellent video with great explanations.
I have Hosa brand XLR cables that have been with me for years! Treat your cables like you treat your lady at they with be with you for year! (wrap them nice after every gig)
Dude, this tip video is sick! I got an wedding gig, an hat trick.
good video men gasolina!!!
Dam this video is dope!
So true!!
thanks for everyrhing bro! what case are you using for the peavy mixer?
Do you have a video about sitting down with the future couple weeks ahead, curating a playlist for each phase of the wedding day or other special function?
Good idea on the video.. Keep it up
Dope vid, Barr! Good look on providing the link to that road case for the mixer. I was about to ask about that. Off topic but how do you feel about Roman Reigns winning the Elimination Chamber? I hateed it, personally.
Hey Barr what r u using on ur speaker stand to hold up ur stand skrim?
Very nice tutorial on wedding setups Barr. A suggestion and idea for the comments section, I use a completely mobile system for the ceremony. So if they want to exchange their vows in the middle of a swamp I can make that happen for them lol. Here’s what I use:Two Behringer MPA100BT bluetooth speakers
One Dual Mount speaker bar
One Tripod
Laptop running Virtual DJ
Ones wireless Behringer mic on a stand for the officiant
Small wireless lapel mic system for the Bride and Groom
One Halo ACDC charger to power the lapel mic system
This gives me a 200 watt, four input system that can run for much longer than the amount of time taken for the ceremony. It’s easy to setup in minutes
great tricks of the trade video...kinda do the same. quick question: do you have a standard playlist for dinner hour...possibly same type of music used for cocktail hour. I have a standard dinner music, mostly instrumentals
Hi! Quick question. For the ceremony I am doing they want to have each person's entrance music start and stop at certain times. Is there a program I can use that would allow me to preset when to start and stop the songs back to back, so I wouldn't have to worry about rushing and finding the correct starting and stopping locations of each song?
I bought a 10' IEC power cable for powered speakers and found them to be still TOO SHORT. I bought 15' and 25' cables for each speaker. The fact that you don't have to open a second cable bag, second setup, second tear down, and second storage of an extension cord is PRICELESS. Literally saves 1-3 minutes setup every gig (on 2 speakers) and eliminates one connection, each.
My philosophy has changed from "lots of equipment for every use" to "efficient setup using as few connections / cables as possible - with backups."
Don't forget adapters. Videographers always want to record directly off my mixer using 3.5mm. Or out of the last speaker's output in XLR-1/4 combo. You'll need 3.5 to 1/4, RCA to 1/4, 1/4 to XLR, DMX Splitters, etc... Buy it all and keep it in a toolbox. $100 in adapters will SAVE YOUR BOOTY and be the best insurance policy against you getting stuck at an event without what you need. You will not regret having it when you're in desperate need one day because your laptop runs a Windows update and you need to play cocktail music off your iPad, etc.
Oh, and don't forget accessories, but only useful beneficial ones.
Microphone windbreaker "fluffy fuzzy" covers are essential for days with a light breeze. Absolutely necessary for lakeside / waterfront weddings.
Awesome....
Thank you
Another awesome video DJ Bar. The first string quartet was Ed Sheeran Thinking Out Loud. You talk about good string quartets? If you haven't heard of Brooklyn Duo, you should give them a listen. I Absolutely love them. Thanks for all your help. From Absolute DJs and DJ Nos.
Great video as always. I have a question, when setting up your 2 wireless mic do you scan for the best channel with both receiver on?
You should always scan just to be sure. Usually for most consumer great wireless mics they usually are pretty good, but it does not hurt.
I like QLX-D very much, thinking about getting few of them for weddings, had problems with range with BLX and GLX-D, did you experience any problems ever with QLX-D ?
Do you use a certain app to mix the music such as pyro by serato
Very cool Barr 👍🏾 for Meats and Cheeses 🤣
Dj barr i have a question I heard you say you have to keep the T bar even what do u mean same lights on both sides i need a beginner advice im new to live events what do u recommend?
I love that Peavey Mixer its awesome nice and big, spread out controls. Great for live bands or PA hire.
Hey Barr, looking into getting speakers. What would you prefer on tops and subs? I want to get some JBL but not sure if I should get 12s for the tops or 15s. Same for subs, not sure if I should get 15s or 18s? Thoughts? Thanks man.
Do they make 50' Long xlr cables?
DJ Barr Bababooey! Comin’ atcha WNNNNBC! I like your videos man! You seem like a cool person! Hopefully you got those references. I heard the “hey now...Comin’ at cha” and just said “he has to be a listener / fan.”
DJ Giant G Out! :-)
I just realised, you and DJ Rick Web are one of the most Pro DJ's that I watch you both live in America you should do a M.A.S.S.I.V.E gig together with some of hid equipment and your equipment. What do u guys think?
Barr where did u get ur mackie mix 5 case
14:55 - you do not need to plug into both channels on the back of the speaker. In fact plugging into both with the same signal is not necessary and arguably incorrect.
in this case the output is one Left and one Right so you'd want to do both.
what is the white cloth you use to cover the stands.
Another one...
Quick question: is the EQ on the Makie Mix5 only for the XLR channel, or can I EQ the sound of the music on the Main Out channel to the speakers? Im new to this...
beta 58 is supercardioid - not great at picking up sound from all angles so it is not a good choice for ceremony. Get an omni mic or basic sm58 cardioid.
Dear HOSA, i need 2 3ft xlr cables because old ones mine messed up, whats the barr discount code😶
dear Miggy go to Hosas Facebook page and ask them directly they will be able to assist you. just tell em u saw this on D.J. Barr's youtube channel.. they will plug in the code for you.
Phaton power is for condenser mics. Mics that need to be powered. The handheld dynamic mic does not need phantom power.
Hosa cables are so nice
I have some hosa guitar cables
Do you have any CODE that we may get a discount on the cables?
How is the auto tune on that mixer? Have you tried it? Can you do a video in auto tune?
What do you do to start getting accounts and get the word out? Advertising etc?
It don’t have (?)power. I need a mic the can work wit my mixer, so my works ? The problem is the mic?
Hey DJ BARR, I am flying to Florida with camera equipment and I have never done that. Can you offer any tips or maybe do a vlog on how to travel with camera equipment? I have a dedicated camera bag (as one should) but should I check it? or put it all into a smaller bag and carry on? HELP!!
banks0817 I would bring it as a carry on on. You should have no issues
Isn't phantom power for condenser mics?
First #bellsquad
Do you prefer active or powered speakers?
Barr question? Why do you run two signals into your power speaker from you mixer?
He did that so he could get signal from the left and right channels since he was sending a stereo signal to the mixer.
💎💎💎💎💎
Regalanos un playlists para el cocktel hours.. .
I hope this doesn’t sound snarky, but am wondering why in that shot of you next to the speaker, you have it so high that it’s bottom in almost above your head. I was led to believe that you want the speakers center at about the average audience members ears.
Do you play the same type of music for cocktail and dinner
You can stylistically? It really depends on the vibe you are going for. Music can keep people in the moment, so if you go from a heavy dance set and then they sit down for dinner, maybe go into more big band jazz? Maybe classical? It really depends on the feeling of the moment.
Yamaha makes a smaller mixer that has phantom power
would It be wrong to DJ your own wedding haha
Question: If a guest breaks any of your equipment - do you have insurance, or do you make the bride/groom sign a waiver?
its all in the contract!
You look like my cousin in Melbourne.
Beauty and the beast really the best choice? 😂😂
Great video!!!! However, for all of you the viewers out there learning from this video.... as a wedding dj..... you will never need PHANTOM POWER. Phantom power is only used for studio mics. I actually strongly suggest NEVER using phantom power at a wedding. This could blow up your phone/iPad. Phones/iPads run at 5V. You DO NOT want to send 48V to your 5V device. It could also be a huge element of feedback. NEVER use phantom power at a wedding. Unless your wedding requires a studio mic for a live singer/songwriter section. Great video man!!
Phantom power doesn't affect any device that is connected with rca or unbalanced quarter inch connections. Your statement is completely false. Only sources connected with XLR or balanced connections are subjected to phantom power.
1000
if they want you to mix its called use virtual dj auto play cause its better than serato but serato is better
Speaker with bult in amp dont last long
Dj Rick Web wants you to get gloves
Tips for DJing a wedding for Latinos or DJing a wedding in Spanish
wireless by far
Yae I think that you don’t mix in the cocktail hour
Pre-recorded mixes are fine. I have 30 or so, each an hour and half long.
No Red Bull today
30'th like lol
Sorry Bayardo, I was more interested in the art, did not hear a word you said...
1. mics with build-in batteries are no good for wedding djs, trust me. The AA batteries are not expensive but can save you a lot of nerves during your gigs.
2. doesn't matter if you have gold-plated connectors on your cables if you plug them into a cheap mixer like peavey. Seriously, PV 10 is garbage.
Same with the mics. QLXDs are great mics, but plugging em into peavey... uugghh
3. If you have xlrs - use them instead of unbalanced cables, unless you want to hear annoying hummm from your speakers.
4. If you plug your laptop into a mixer with jack-2rca unbalanced cable - use di-box for the same reason.
the cringe tho
