Lots of Pro Tips - Thanks for each and every one of them. When I play The Wobble, I back it up with Da Butt; crowd seems to love that mix. As for the "older" crowd, do not confuse their age with their music preference. I do many "mature" events and while I will not play High School Prom music, I will not just play 50's-80's; they do like current music, too! But, yes, throw backs done correctly gets them energized and mixed current music in just raises the bar. Love your vids - keep 'em coming!
I am enjoying your videos, it's like being there to see a modern DJ in action. I was a dj in the 80s and 90s and just wanted to chime in on the always play requests policy. In general yes, of course you want to play requests. Obviously there may also be exceptions to the rule. After experiencing more requests than available time you start to think things through - and no I'm not talking about a night so dead everyone was requesting instead of dancing - in my old days kids simply got a thrill out of getting their request played. Yes you are there to serve and entertain - the entire crowd, not just the most vocal requestors. Ultimately you need to play what is best for the whole, and that is always a judgement call. I remember one night I had over 200 college aged kids on the dance floor, and one young woman begging me to play her song, not letting up while the song was ending and I was in the middle of a mix. It was toward the end of the night, I was short on time and had plenty of hits left. She stopped her plea mid sentence letting out a scream and jumping when she heard the song I had just started - and ran to the dance floor. It was not her request, but it was the right song for the crowd, including her.
Also it’s good to free up disk space! I’ve learned that even tho you may not use your computer for internet etc it’s still good to make your computer to run like a Cadillac!
I have a dedicated off line laptop and desktop computer that once I have all my music and programs installed and updated I have no need to connect them to the internet. This is good in case any updates cause blue screen or freezing issues or forced restarts and also no chance of malware or viruses that could effect reliability.

also i would say for a backup for music is to make some mixes of diff types of music but of you mixing it and if something dies you can play your mixes so ppl cant tell ur not doing stuff and it mixes how u you do vs the automix way til you can figure out what happen with the board or laptop that died
also i would say to get some in ear monitors vs big headphones ....it looks better ....when ppl take photos or videos and ur in the background with huge ass headphones on vs having tiny lil in ear monitors it looks more sleek
XLR to 3.5m jack can be really dangerous, If phantom power is running (not sure if DJ desk have it, im more live sound) it can send 48V through the headphone jack which can easily damage your device, i recommend always trying to use RCA or jack ports for 3.5 when possible.
Aww man after I saw this video I should have filmed myself setting up on July 20th. I have a much different approach to setting up my gear due to the difference in the events that I set up for. The even that just passed for me was a 2 stage event inside a warehouse with multiple DJs switching in and out the entire night. So ended up with 4 subs and 4 main with a DJM900nxs/4CDJ2000nxs for each stage.
Man don’t sleep on the Yamaha 6 channel , sounds WAY better than that behringer x-air and x-32 crap ! The pre-amps inside our beautiful and make setup easy when you talk about ringing a room out . Don’t have to mess with a 31 band EQ . Trust me get one in your gear bag NOW !
Lol everyone was bummed when you announced last song. Usually they tip for you to stay later. But the conditions you were in I understand. Regardless you got them out there dancing.
Dude.. High quality video as usual. You always take the time to clean wiring. Always very professional bro. I salute you! Side note towards the end of the video check out the tall guy dancing with the different ladies. He's fresh!! 😂
this happens a lot, what I tend to do is keep the music low and pretty vague (just popular enough to build trust) till 2/3 hours before the end of the event. During those first hours I just have fun mixing and mixing. For tough crowds I tend to scrub through 3 genre's I think they'll like and play some bangers from that genre. When they react, I adapt and try to nudge them towards pop music (since they can sing along to charts' songs the best) If it doesn't work, I play safe tracks to gain even more trust and when you do get them to trust you, you can almost spin anything and the'll have a great time
Love the mic rack, really compact and nicely made. Though my question would be that mixer getting heated. All that foam and there’s no where for the heat to go.
I understand this is a big ask but is there any chance you can post the set list for this gig, Im really interested in how you Structured this gig and how my mixed eg. The old songs into the newer songs
I've heard otherwise from a sound engineer. He says they are more fragile. One thing in them goes and they are toast you have to send them back and forth and wait and wait just to get fixed. Passive are more durable the tweeter, cone or driver goes bad you can quickly swap yourself. You could always have a back up amp in your rack and switch that over if need be and keep on playing. Active speaker goes you're down a speaker unless you brought a backup. Idk that's some of what I been told. I've gone passive now but it is more complicated with wiring and with components for sure. Thanks for the reply just trying to weigh the pros and cons.
@@ajspellmonthat1djguy622 Professional DJ for 31 years in the field. Making my living off it for 15, as well as doing live sound for all sizes and types of venues. On paper your friend is correct, save for the weight and set up complexities that you have discovered. Real world today is different. Powered speakers from reputable manufacturers are nearly as bulletproof reliable as passive. They can match performance in most every situation, assuming you buy the right tool for the job, which is all they really are. You don't need double 15" tops setting on 18" subs to DJ a 100 person party in a small hall, and buying and transporting them to shows would be stupid. I also wouldn't take my powered EV ZLX12P's and my 12" sub to do a large scale outdoor event. Wrong tools for the job. Powered are lighter, easier to set up, and generally the same or cheaper than passive, but they do have some shortcomings of their own. You can't abuse them like a passive, but they hold up on the road if you protect your investment. I carry that EV set up in my car 24/7 in Pennsylvania. Bitter winter and blazing summer, it sits in my car as my everyday rig. I have used (and occasionally somewhat abused) it 4-6 days a week for 6 years, small bar karaoke to large weddings, indoors and out. I have had no failures whatsoever except a dead XLR input due to someone yanking the cable during a bar fight. They have been bulletproof. 34lbs, $399, yeah, I'm not throwing my 70lb Yamaha 15" clubs up on the sticks unless I have to, and that is becoming rare. Think about what and where you play, figure out realistically what tool is needed for the job, and then find it from a GOOD manufacturer. Do this intelligently and I assure you, you won't go back. In 31 years I've never field changed a cone or tweeter. That's why you carry a backup speaker. You're being paid so they expect you to be professional. Carry a backup. I love old school, but I've lived it. I don't carry crates of vinyl anymore, and I won't bother with passive unless the job requires it, and few do. Knowledge from a sound engineers viewpoint is certainly beneficial, but perhaps not as much as as from a working DJ with experience. Find some in your area and try to connect. What I do and use running sound in my church is very different from what I do in the field every day for work. You need to pickup some of that understanding from experienced DJ's. It's too expensive to learn the hard way! Packed floors and bouncin butts, young buck!

17:50 nice blend of Nelly/Skynyrd! Thanks for all of your gracious content! How long have you been a dj, is it your own company and what day job do you have?
Labeling everything is a brilliant idea, last gig nearly came to fisticuffs because the club owner was claiming very expensive equipment was their's at the end of the night.
thanks for the video..... you are very professional.... who were the mics you were using need to update mine and have multiple had an event and they want to wireless mics
Where did you get your power and how many extension cords did you have to run on how many circuits. What distance and what gauge of extension cord (10 or 12) did you have to use?
Great job man. I was looking into your equipment list to purchase the same laptop arm stand that you have in you mixer controller case... can you post the link pls?
another pro tip is... ALWAYS!!! know how much your gear use in power use (you can´t trust what the labels says on your gear)… and if you can, split out your gear over more that one group. so you don´t looses all sound or light at once, if a fuse blows. and as Rick says " test your gear at full volume" you never know what happens. and IF a fuse blows, remember to turn down all your amp´s before you switch on the blown group again. trust me… you will get ½ of at heart attack if you forget.
@@DJRickWeb thanks for the help I just use vdj I hope is not the speakers to Or cable like the aux to xlr then I put xlr in to the mixer to output xlr to speakers Thanks for the tips in the video keep my videos comeing like this one
@@RamPageProX2024 I was doing this to get both left and right channels to on speaker, until I found the mono switch on my mixer. Now I only need one xlr to run full signal to a speaker. This is handy if you're in a smaller space that only needs or can only fit one speaker, or if it's an odd shaped room where one speaker can aim around a corner. This way both speakers produce the full stereo sound. :)
what is the deal with quick mixing? I must be different i play majority of the song almost to the end definitly if it's like cupid wobble nae nae git up ole town road or any of the line dances or new tracks thats hot. then i will do harmonic mixing as i exit out to the next song.
You can fit more music into the same amount of time. Millenials and gen x have add so you got to keep the music moving. Max 2 minutes per most songs I play anymore. Unless it's a hot track that the crowd is vibing too.

Is the fan for you or for equipment? I did an outdoor wedding yesterday here in SC and while I was in the shade I noticed my equipment was getting pretty warm..most notably my Macbook. Luckily nothing popped, but I was thinking I should have brought a fan.
Hey I just got 2 JBL SRX815’s and a JBL SRX828p. I have a DDJ - 1000 mixer, and I was wondering how you wire your XLR cables from your Mixer to your sub and speakers. Thanks!
DJ Rick Web so could I run the Left output on my mixer to Channel 1 on my sub. The right output on my mixer to channel 2 on the sub. Channel 1 output on the sub to left speaker and channel 2 output on my sub to my right speaker?

I was told, at least for a MacBook that leaving the computer off for at least 5 minutes to totally reset it.
I am not aware of how the mac is works.
Great video but no power conditioner or surge protector for the mic racks?
Hehehe... had to keep some secrets for the rebel video.
The video good but your still getting a lot of heat on the last one 😂
Why the "ADJ event table is stupid" video coming soon.
Great job man. I was looking into your equipment list to purchase the same laptop arm stand that you have in you mixer controller case... can you post the link pls?
Check the case build part 3. I have full directions on how to install too
Beautiful set up how did you mount the Wash Fx's
Fly points there is a video on my channel that goes over this
another pro tip is... ALWAYS!!! know how much your gear use in power use (you can´t trust what the labels says on your gear)… and if you can, split out your gear over more that one group. so you don´t looses all sound or light at once, if a fuse blows. and as Rick says " test your gear at full volume" you never know what happens. and IF a fuse blows, remember to turn down all your amp´s before you switch on the blown group again. trust me… you will get ½ of at heart attack if you forget.
Or install an amperemeter in the amprack
@@derosram9333 that wasn´t an option when i was a DJ.
You should have placed a facade ;-). Just kidding, nice video !
Lowkey a facade would have blown away at this gig. The wind was kicking
I see what u did there.. 🤪🤣
I live in Greensboro lol
Why do I get buzzing when I use vdj on my laptop do you know a way 8 can fix
You dont get it on other softwares? Normally that buzz is from power. Like a cheap laptop charger.
@@DJRickWeb thanks for the help I just use vdj
I hope is not the speakers to
Or cable like the aux to xlr then I put xlr in to the mixer to output xlr to speakers
Thanks for the tips in the video keep my videos comeing like this one
Why do some dj I seen run 2 xlr cable in one speakers
@@RamPageProX2024 I was doing this to get both left and right channels to on speaker, until I found the mono switch on my mixer. Now I only need one xlr to run full signal to a speaker. This is handy if you're in a smaller space that only needs or can only fit one speaker, or if it's an odd shaped room where one speaker can aim around a corner. This way both speakers produce the full stereo sound. :)
Found the vid informative. Im Looking to get into sound hire
what is the deal with quick mixing? I must be different i play majority of the song almost to the end definitly if it's like cupid wobble nae nae git up ole town road or any of the line dances or new tracks thats hot. then i will do harmonic mixing as i exit out to the next song.
You can fit more music into the same amount of time. Millenials and gen x have add so you got to keep the music moving. Max 2 minutes per most songs I play anymore. Unless it's a hot track that the crowd is vibing too.
@@DJRickWeb see that is where me and you are different i play to older crowds my age i'm 46 so i play to 21 and up usually mostly bar scenes and older groups.
2:46 voice crack made me piss myself I’m sorry
Hitting puberty for the second time man.
Looks like the brutha was tryin to get some LOL
Hey man, quick question - did your laptop crap-up @17:56? If so I had the same issue and it was down to not using a fast enough HDD. Just a thought, bro. Great video though man.
No it was just a jump cut in the video.
@@DJRickWeb Ohhhhhh, my bad - just thought i'd chime in.
It's 2022, can't you guys starting using Gravity/K&M single distance pole speaker stands?
Scrims are so, so tacky.

Is the fan for you or for equipment? I did an outdoor wedding yesterday here in SC and while I was in the shade I noticed my equipment was getting pretty warm..most notably my Macbook. Luckily nothing popped, but I was thinking I should have brought a fan.
Nope fan was for me but in the shade and the wind was blowing so I didnt use it
I can't do outside night gigs here in Florida. The mosquitoes keep carrying the guests away.
Haha
Hey I just got 2 JBL SRX815’s and a JBL SRX828p. I have a DDJ - 1000 mixer, and I was wondering how you wire your XLR cables from your Mixer to your sub and speakers. Thanks!
It varries. With the built in dsp on the srx series it really doesn't matter how you wire it
DJ Rick Web so could I run the Left output on my mixer to Channel 1 on my sub. The right output on my mixer to channel 2 on the sub. Channel 1 output on the sub to left speaker and channel 2 output on my sub to my right speaker?
Wow I am trying to figure out this as well
Hey Rick I like your videos can you tell me where you buy the arm for a laptop thanks
The built in case arm? Check the video out where I installed it. The link should be in that videos description
@@DJRickWeb Thank you Rick
I'm about the performance not the gear.
Why do dj have headphones? I’m really curios
To que the next song
