you can buy access to libraries/music pools. theres quite a few of these services now. monthly/yearly fee and access a massive catalogue of music. not exactly advisable for a club dj wanting to be totally unique and on the pulse with releases, but, for a party/event dj its almost essential and advised.
DJ Barr - I believe investing in this content should considered an investment. I’ve been a DJ and MC since 96’ - took a little break because of life circumstances and now I’m back at it, and these videos have helped me get up to date and back on track with getting gigs. In 2022 I did 30 weddings plus a few birthdays and school parties. I greatly appreciate how candid you are. Keep doing your thing bro! And remember in Jersey, we don’t pump our gas we just pump our fist!!
Get it! Love seeing comments like this. Djing has up's and down's..... but the learning is endless. Just when you think you have discovered it all, something GRABS you
You’ve certainly gone up a notch in my book with this video. This is the most real and candid video I’ve seen in equipment, pricing, and marketing yourself. Nice work.
I was literally thinking the same. Here in the U.K. they expect you to come with all those extras already, we can’t charge for moving heads and up lights as extra 🤦🏽♂️
Prices are definitely area specific! In Southern CA there are a TON of DJ's, most wedding DJ's offer the same options, but it's really hard to get above $2k for all the bells and whistles, so DJ and MC skills definitely set you apart. Other then that, most couples book bands, I mean 9 out of 10 I'm next to a band.
Appreciate the insight. That number one pick is major! I'm adding that to my purchase list now. Making sure your clients can visualize is everything makes the sales process 10x easier
Bro, nice work on this video. Where im from DJ’s don’t like to share nothing. It’s really quite sad, but thanks for all that you do to help make us all better DJ’s
I am just now one year into owning my first dj controller. 3 years into owning a mobile pa system. (Started out hosting karaoke). Here is my checklist one year into having real dj gear. I have done 4 weddings, 5 one off gigs for different businesses throwing events. And 6 months djing every weekend in a bar. (One year. The list: I am typing this out for me to personally judge myself for my first year of decisions. 10. ✔️ .got the facade. 9. ✔️ got the microphones (karaoke... but I just bought brand new wireless set.) 8. ✔️ got 4 uplights now. (Only have done one gig so far with them.) 7. Don't have a sparkler unit. Probably will be a future upgrade, obviously this early in the journey that would be overkill lol. 6. Don't have a gobo projector. But I do offer to bring a screen with a cool design and the couple's name on it with graphics behind it. And the ability to display that content on any screens that may be present. So it's a precursor to the gobo. Half check? Nah lol. 5. No photo booth. But I actually have a camera and a ring light and a spare laptop to set up a kind of a ghetto version of a photo booth but will still provide excellent quality lol. But I would need someone to operate it. I've seen those auto user photobooths and they are really cool. 4. This was directed at me. Definitely don't have these yet though. I'm a little behind on lighting. But I am realizing the importance. 3. Fog.... love it for wedding gigs. Def not something a beginner needs since I can't afford that yet for what it is. Can I fill a chest with dry ice and just get a leaf blower? Lol. 2. Yup don't have these either...again, behind on lighting. You get a lot of free stuff. Spoiled ass lol. 1. ✔️... I dont have a proper team yet to help with these extras. But I just linked back up with my day 1 homies that I used to work on making and performing live music with and now I can call on them to help me out. So. 4 out of 10 not bad for being one year in. I'm headed in the right direction. We'll see how many checks I get done in the next year.
DJ Barr Thank you so much for this video! I just got off the phone with you and asking about a certain speaker and you were very patient and helpful. I am a 30 year dj and photographer I am learning so much from your videos take care. DJ Spencer 4 Hire
I've been DJing 25 years. And covid affected the last 2 years.. I'm in Australia and I've undersold my services for years... but always give more energy to clients, than gear.. After all, where can you find a DJ who.chooses muisic well, and MCs? Everywhere, but do they.dance, sing as well? Do some stand up? Wow, if I add some more of these suggestions, maybe we can reach a different market.. thanks
I'm curious for the full-time DJs especially the well-known ones who make a ton of money. Health and future are of course very important. Do you also spend out of pocket monthly for a good health insurance, life insurance, retirement investments, etc. esp if you have a family? These are the main benefits provided by your company if you have another full time profession.
Word baby!!! I planning my launch event right now. Got almost everything on the list. Barr thanks so much! You keep it real dude! Appreciate ya from da 206!
All about selling an experience, not about selling yourself. Great video. Twitch Streamer trying to go mobile and boy the buy-in to entry isn't exactly cheap starting out. Might start with some house party gigs. lol
Nice and thank you!!! I’m slowly building up my wedding/mobile business and that van is a definite in my plans, it’s a miracle that I can fit my gear in my 2020 Kia Soul, but the Ram Pro would be ideal to get.
You’re in New Jersey so it’s not over saturated with DJs. Here in California I’m doing great and it’s because I don’t charge for to many individual things. Only the personal monogram, wireless uplighting, dance on clouds, and cold sparklers. Most of your top ten are realistic but I’d say 4 and 2 really aren’t. Just my observation 🙌🏽
Great video Barr I use my Samsung phone with a gimbal. People love to see the action. I think next year going to invest in a camera so I can record a different angel.
Great video, what is the average price a dj should charge let's say for a wedding or a birthday celebration? Or what the minimum that a dj should do a wedding?
Not all areas or markets are the same. Here in my market in Illinois, on the average birthday gigs are from $800-1300 and weddings between $1500-2500. This is just for DJ service without any extras like photobooth or uplights.
Dj Barr One last question do you put your sub in front of the Dj facade or behind Cause I’ve been watching your videos and I never see the sun in front only in like one video
Bro, I love your videos. Very knowledgeable DJ and you help beginners and share your knowledge. Keep up the good work my Dude. Much luv!!!!! -DJ Squrf-
Fun to know (I was curious, too) but it doesn't really matter. Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony, and others all make good still/video cameras. You'll never know what camera was used, just from seeing the output. These days, you could even use a smartphone, if it was plugged in and had the capacity.
@@the_sound_of_art it really does…. You’re charging for your DJ services which should include lighting. Charging that much extra just for lights which you should come with is shocking. Customers don’t care how many features a light has so may as well get a low/ mid mover

Where do you get clients who spend £600 to have uplights? In the uk, that’s how much they want to spend on the whole DJ service
Here In South America that’s what they want to spend in the entire wedding 😂
Also treu in Holland, maby a 1000 for a real big setup. Def bot 800 for just 4 movingheads
In GA,US they spending less.

So for lights- basically you use 2 or 4 moving heads plus up-lights. Looks clean👍
DJ Barr ! This Guy is on point !!
Wedding market is sometimes a rip off - i would love if dj skills are better paid then rip off extras but in the long run it might be the same for djs
If the bride makes decisions, she most likely is interested in good lighting and pictures then dj skills. So it's best to have both bases covered.
APE LABS for up lighting.
Thanks for sharing man. A whole lot of great info.
Thank you Dj Barr 🙏 God bless you

Right, a DJ without any basic lights in SoCal is just not acceptable. I do upsell moving heads on totems though but nowhere near his prices.
Cali has ton of DJ's almost every family in Cali knows a DJ!!😂🤣😁
This dude is crazy expensive. Were does he get clients.

Lol some of these upsells are almost what a wedding DJ costs in total over here.
🤣😂😂yeah I never heard of a dj that charge. Like a real live band !!!🤔😁 he must live in an area that's dry with DJ's wow
The national average cost of a DJ only…no up sells is $1250. If you aren’t hitting those numbers, you should bump your prices up.
$1250...... I wish mate 😂 I do weddings every week here in the uk with lights all in and you'd be lucky to get around 40% of that! 😁
you never said what the other camera was you are also using...would love to know, thank you and great job, lots of help!!!!!!!
right, I was waiting on that also

Great video!! Thank you

850 for 4 moving heads who pays that ? Sorry but you're ripping people off
He's charging 212.50$ each for lights that cost around 1k each. Doesn't really seem like a rip off.
