Wild Bison Return to Banff National Park

Wild bison once roamed the valleys of Banff National Park, but they hadn’t been seen in over 140 years. That all changed in 2017.
After a long road trip and a helicopter flight into the mountains, the crate doors are opened and wild bison rush out to explore their new home in Banff National Park.

Is the date of release in to the wild known yet? Coming to the park in June '18 but that is probably to early to see them I suppose...?

Hi, thanks for the question.
The herd arrived in Banff's remote backcountry in February of 2017. They are currently being held in a soft-release enclosure to help them adapt to their new home. We expect that the full-release will occur in July 2018. Then they will be free to roam a 1200 sq km area in Banff's remote eastern slopes.
