One of the greatest handgun cartridges of all time. Original 40 gr 255 gr load running close to 1000 fps in a full size SAA packed a lot of killin'.

My late Uncle had 2 model 25-2's in .45 acp , one of which he had the 6 1/2" barrel cut down to a little over 4 inches !!! What a sweet shooting revolver !!! Yes ,being a Boomer and former late '70's Rookie LEO I too love my revolvers owning several !!!

I've been scared to death to shoot it, but I trust you enough to know that if you say the recoil is not that bad on it, I would give it a whirl. I've had many guys offer to have me shoot their 45 long Colts and they say it's not that bad but I've been fooled before by several guys! I think they just like to give a woman a hard time sometimes. But my favorite gun is a 1911 in 45 ACP and they said if I could shoot that I sure as heck could shoot the 45 long Colt
Thanks for another great video. I always look forward to your videos.

Normal factory loads, or their reloaded equivalent, generate about the same amount of recoil as a .45acp.

A 1911 .45 ACP lady? A girl after my own heart! Having owned a Model 25 with a 3 inch barrel, load that N frame, grip it good and you'll get a kick out of it! (No pun intended); Enjoy!

I recently acquired one in the model 25-7, Model 1989 45 cal. It has the unfluted cylinder in 45 Colt, 5 inch barrel. A bit more rare than some of the M25's. I believe there were only around 2000 produced. So far it has been a great revolver. Very accurate. It seems to be a cousin to the model 25 Moutain gun which was started one year before the 25-7. I found this gem for $750 in like new condition.

Of all my revolvers, from Colt to S&W to High Standard, this revolver is the most accurate I own. Was probably around the mid to late 90's that I bought this gun from a life long friend. After the first two shots at a 75ft indoor range, I turned him him and aked "How much?" . $450 dollars doesn't go as far as it used to. My stainless S&W 629 also has a 4" barrel and has been packed around Alaska with me for many years- heh- ever since I dumped my canoe while wearing my model 25-5. Zero damage, but same buddy sold me the 629 also @ $450.

I picked up a 25-2 a few months back. I'd like to get the dash 5 model if I ever can find one. My 25-2 is about 1979-80 vintage or so and might be the handsomest revolver I have (and it even came with leather holster by Alfonso's!). The blued steel looks like polished obsidian. It's a pleasure to shoot, especially with 200 grain SWC's. Great review; keep 'em coming!

So do I, however the ammo is getting crazy, price wise. You can buy 44mag cheaper than 45 colt. Some plus P defense and dangerous game loads can be $3.25 each.

I will say according to John Linebaugh the model 25 can handle some stout pressure and loads too. Maybe not to the max range of “Ruger only” data, but can handle around 80% the range of 44 magnum pressures. Thankfully in my own research, Hogdon has plenty of powerful 45 colt loads that fall well within the limits of the model 25 and sport very heavy bullet weights. While not looking to go the full potential of a plus P 45 colt. It is nice to have the option with a 25-5 of putting in some powerful loads capable of bringing down game similar to what the 44 magnum is capable of stopping.

I had one when living next to a dope dealer. Always shot standard rounds at the range and one cylinder of “dope dealer” rounds.
Hand loaded by a friend they were a was but better than .44 mag. The problem is not the case but the 1873 actions.
The should have been: “seeing how this is a .45 Long Colt”…..

Yes on the full review, not that you would shot this round in your 25-5 but are the chambers long enough to chamber .454 Casull? I’ve heard some of them do. Thank you for posting.

The 454 cartridge case is too long to fit into a 45 Colt chamber.
