I bought a Glock 20 a few years back after doing extensive research into 10mm. The first time I took it to the range I absolutely loved it, that sharp recoil really impressed me and seeing how hard it hit made me a big fan of the caliber. I also have 2 Taurus revolvers with 6 inch barrels, one is chambered in .357 magnum and the other is chambered in .44 magnum, even though I like shooting them both, my go to gun for home defense, everyday carry and hunting is my Glock 20 because it is so darn fun to shoot. I think that 10mm is such a beast of a round with great combination of ballistic performance and impressive power. I am definitely not sorry for going to the 10mm.

@@jasonlommen4769 I'd love to get the G40 at some point, but first I want to get a 1911 chambered in 10mm. I agree about some shooters being either afraid of 10mm or unable to handle that hard snap, but I love the feel of that snap. With the magnums and even .45 ACP you have that pushback before the barrel rise, which after a while starts causing the grips to dig into your palm. But that hard upward snap of both .40 S&W and 10mm seems to add something to the experience. As far as the 9mm fanboys saying that 9mm is easier to get back on target I call bullshit, because after I got proficient with 10mm it's easy for me to mag dump as quick as I can with 9mm, and can even do it with 1 hand.

I was one of the first people to buy a Delta Elite and have been shooting it regularly ever since, always with my own reloaded ammo. I shoot full-power loads exclusively-I have. 45 Gold Cup when I want to shoot light target loads. As long as you don’t decide to get creative with your reloads, and instead respect responsible loading data, an unramped unsupported barrel will have NO issues whatsoever. I am literally shooting the same brass I first started using back in about 1987, with no failures worth mentioning in all that time. 10.0 to 10.4 grains of Blue Dot behind a 180 grain bucket is certainly no slouch. It’s not as hot as the crazy Norma factory ammo (which arguably was way over pressure) but it’s certainly hotter than the weak 10mm factory ammo of today, which for the most part is just 40 S&W in a longer case rather than true 10mm auto.

    • @Icarryone
      @Icarryone  2 года назад

I agree. Some people have a tendency to load their 10mm rounds a bit too hot. This, by itself, will shorten case life considerably.

It’s never been a “secret.” Just looking at a Delta Elite’s barrel and one can see that it lacks full chamber support. It’s no big deal when shooting factory ammo that isn’t loaded up to over pressured “nuclear tipped” 10mm ammo. Too many people want such hot rounds, they blindly will take a 10mm case and try to morph it into “.50BMG “ pressures. Think: DoubleTap, Underwood and even Buffalo Bore, who produce ammo that really beats the s*** out of one’s frames, slides and chambers. I tell people that if you want something with more “BANG,” than factory standard 10mm loads, then why don’t you just buy “more gun” like a .44mag or Desert Eagle 50???

The SIG P220 Legion is probably my favorite 10mm/handgun of all time. The weight of the factory slide and spring are the heaviest I have encountered in a (not-desert-eagle) handgun. This added weight and spring tension soaks up the recoil from high power factory loads (Underwood 220 gn) beautifully.

Yes. I got one of those too. It likes the hotter ammo because of the stiff spring, as I noticed on the last round of a magazine, the slide fails to lock open sometimes with some of the weak 10mm rounds (experienced it with Federal AE). Thats ok though. The reason I got a 10 instead of a .40 is because I wanted to fire the hotter rounds anyway.

My Specialist 10mm was having some issues at the beginning with some failures to feed. I didnt fully follow the break in process but cleaned and oiled very wll prior to shooting. Nor did I fully keep track of round count but ever since i got past around 500 rounds in my stash it really smoothed out with cleaning and greasing all contact points every 100 rounds about. Racking the slide and recoil feels much smoother than when it was brand new, like glass.

What an astute set of observations!
I had a Delta Elite and liked it pretty well but gave it up in favor of the .45 Super. I got one right after Dean Grennell introduced it in 1988.
While there may be some advantages to the Super because of heavier bullets the fact is that for most people the Super and 10mm are virtually interchangeable.
The real advantage of the Super was the guy building the gun.
Virtially the same criteria mentioned in the video and a few others having to do with the ejection port and extractor.
Ace Hindman was simply out building Colt because he understood what was needed to make the 1911 work with those high pressures.
I think it adds validity to the points made here.
Your comments about chamber dimensions were spot on as well.
I shoot some very heavy .45 Colt loads in revolvers. The old .45 will do anything the .44 Magnum will but at lower pressure. Case life and extraction are excellent even with heavy loads.
Those .45's started as .44's and were rechambered to minimum SAAMI specifications or cylinders built from scratch.
The published tolerance for the old Colt were wider than most cartriges and loose chambers were to blame for most head separations.
This useful fact was researched in depth by John Linebaugh and Ross Seyfried who popularized the idea.
I only mention it to support the content creators comments about chamber dimensions.
    Fantastic content here.
    Subbed and liked.
    Cheers!

      @@Icarryone Appreciate your output!
You are touching on concepts that are really important if a person chooses to shoot a pistol with this performance potential.
This is especially true regarding handloading and chamber dimensions. You just enabled anyone considering a Glock 20 purchase to do so with an informed perspective.
Nobody should be considering purchasing a 10mm pistol casually.
Very few gunwriters seem to even be aware at this level anymore. I don't blame them, they simply write for the masses whose interests have shifted over the decades.
      Again, great content!
      Cheers!

I have tried to explain this very subject to some die hard Glock fans.
The whole idea of shooting reloads in an unsupported glock barrel is a catastrophic dangerous accident waiting to happen.
I have seen first-hand-hand of glocks blowing out the side of the grip and injuring the hand...there are actually some Utube videos showing this as well.
I had Glock fans call me all kinds of glock hating names because of my attempt to advise them of this problem but that's ok,im a no body...But Now maybe they will respect your input, advisement and except this very fact before they have this failure👍.

It's well know among 10mm enthusiasts that the Colt Delta Elite didn't have the case support at the 6 o'clock position. There are small barrel makers who make and fit fully support barrels into Delta Elites $$. With that being said, it was the Delta Elite and Glock 20 that kept the 10mm auto on life support. And Double Tap brought back the full power loads along with other small ammunition loaders. When I got my Glock 29 there was very limited selection in 10mm handguns/manufacturers, friends and others tried to talk me out getting it because they thought it was an obsolete caliber.

EAA Tanfoglio has several da/sa pistols in 10mm. I’ve had the Kimber 1911, and sold it. I have the Glock 20 and 40. What these have going for them, is 15 round magazines. Accuracy suffers with the Glock trigger. The standard sights suck. The Tanfoglio P Match Pro has better sights, is da/sa and a match trigger. Also has a 15 round magazine. It sells for about the same as the Glocks. The Tanfoglio Hunter is an awesome 10mm. Adjustable sights and a great trigger gives it stellar accuracy.
