Greg, I'd just watched your Bonsai vid from ages ago and I really liked your content so I went to subscribe, then I noticed you hadn't uploaded in 2 years now, so all's I want to say is you've gained a subscriber and godspeed wherever you are
Greg, if you place tape (duct tape or painters tape works well) on the inside of the tank, covering the area you drill the hole, it will significantly reduce chipping and make for a much cleaner hole 100% of the time. Also prevents the glass cut out from falling and hitting the other pane, although using a towel is still recommended. Looking forward to seeing the rack of low boys. 👍
Yep, this is the way to go. You can hear the change when you start to cut through the glass but not yet through the tape. Then you can pivot the drill around slightly to see if you have not fully cut through all the way around the hole in case you didn't have it properly strait. It really cuts down on chipping due to not having the drill lined up just right.
I've done this in the past to catch the glass coin, I'll have to test it out for less chipping thx

Looks great Greg! A lot easier with the board there. I just picked up my first 50 Lowboy when I was at That Fish Place with King & Queen Cichlids. I just receive 6 adult L134’s I Place in it. I am going back to Lancaster in a few weeks to get another for my multi shellies! Can’t wait to see the rest of yours up and running!

I make a "X" with blue painters tape on the inside to catch the glass circle and a spray bottle of water rather than a house. Makes less of a mess and still.keeps bit cold. Other than that I do all the second as you! Great information as always!!!

Wouldn't having a wood backing mounting to the tank help prevent chipping as well. If the glass can't be pushed out by the drill bit, shouldn't it allow for a clean cut?

Greg, not being rude but the hole saw wood bit that you held up said 2" 51mm on it. I prefer not to drill holes in my tanks and use PVC piping over the top then I can change things as needed or wanted. It's great to watch things as others do it.
yeah, i grabbed the wrong hole saw for the video, the hole was 1-3/4 or 45~mm

My guess is that what happened to Gregg is the same thing that has happened to me with several hobbies. That is, I got so passionate I started too many projects on too large a scale ... and I simply ground to a halt. When we last left Gregg he was working on an outdoor pool, a greenhouse, and an entire new fish room with an all new tank format and central filtration. Plus making plans for a specialist breeding program. Enough to drown a horse. How about some therapeutic music Gregg? See below
