My thoughts are; The Clip 5 is louder and brighter, meaning a more 'open' sound as if it had more treble. The Bose Soundlink Micro has more depth and bass overall, but doesnt sound as clear as the JBL Clip 5. This also depends upon the type of music as the Bose sounds better for me with the Jazz music. And that difference in output power is only more obvious at lower volume levels. It's not as obvious the louder you play them both side by side. The Clip 5 bass can also be brought higher in the mobile app. The price is also massively different, with the JBL Clip 5 much cheaper. Although you can get a second-hand/refurbished Bose Micro for a lot less than the ridiculous new price that Bose ask. For me, the clip 5 is far better value and has a better general overall sound that can also be tweaked in the app. Hope this helps!

It would be interesting to hear them both hanging suspended rather than laid on a surface. I noticed in Curry’s the Bose is in a stand suspended (it has a belt clip too) & when compared to the JBL & Sony theBose was noticeably superior in the shop environment.

I have both and the job is horrible. Especially in stereo as the EQ cannot be altered. The Bose is massively better!!!!

That's annoying about the jbl eq in stereo! Thanks for the update! 👍

I bought the Bose when it was first introduced. I think back then it actually sold for $199, but I could be wrong. I returned it because Bose seemed to be chasing the loud bass crowd and ignoring the highs. Apparently everybody wants loud bass, which sounds terrible to me because I prefer sound clarity; if you can’t hear the singer clearly, what’s the point of a song unless it’s an instrumental like the jazz music where the Bose excelled.
That being said, the JBL seems to have too much treble, but at the lower volumes that I prefer, I don’t think it will be an intolerable issue. Additionally, the JBL clip is significantly more practical than the Bose strap. I’m planning to buy a JBL later this month. Hopefully it sounds even better in person. Thanks for the video.

You're absolutely right about the clip 5. It sounds really good below around 65% volume. Above that it starts to shreek, too trebly and high pitched and a bit unclear tbh. The Bose is a bit more stable throughout volume levels but seems a bit muffled at lower levels to me personally, plus it's silly money and just not worth the price I don't think. Thanks for your thoughts! 👍

Thanks for the additional input. Below 65% should be perfect for me. I just want something loud enough for me to hear rather than broadcasting music to the world. 👍

Bose is my winner. They should update the micro with usb-c and a longer battery.

Im a dj and producer , I always used bose earbuds, portable bose stuff - its often great high volumes and bass is ok, its no audiophile sound but Im still very impressed of the sound of the micro soundlink - I dont have much experiance from JBL - more than years ago I tought there speakers where shite:) I would still choose Bose over JBL and I can hear from ur video already the balanced sound of the Bose without distortion,

Yeh Bose are great of course, just so damn expensive?! JBL and others are better value by far in my opinion. The price difference is substantial.

When connected in stereo mode, do they remember the pairing, or do we need to reconnect them every time we turn them on?

    • @MyTechTalks

Well the Bose and the jbl don't connect at all. But those of the same make do of course, and they will need to be reconnected each time. Which is not a big deal tbh, just a few seconds 👍

I couldn't say as different people have different preferences regarding bass and volume levels etc. And many have different needs, like travelling for example so the clip 5 is obviously better with the clip. All that said, at lower levels and up to around 60% the Clip 5 sounds good, bassy and balanced. But at higher levels it starts to shreek a bit, not nice really, but that also depends on the music too. The Bose is pretty consistent, strong and smooth at all levels with depth of bass, but for me it also sounds a bit muffled and 'cloudy' at lower levels. The Bose is silly money too tbh. So its very hard to pick an overall winner, unless you're a JBL fan or a Bose fan and then you pretty much know what you like. Sorry to not be that decisive but hope it helps a bit.

I used to own Bose speakers. They used to set the standard in sound and were the best portable bluetooth speakers. I think many if not most manufacturers have caught up and in some cases beat / exceed Bose. This includes JBL, Soundcore, Sony etc and they have newer technology often with more features

All very valid points! I think Bose are very overpriced too.
