      Dude, I once owned an old Chicago Slingerland kit red sparkle in my late teens. It was actually gifted to me by my uncle, and I knew absolutely nothing when I briefly owned them. Yeah. I eventually sold them to a collector/restorer. I think they were late 50's-early 60's? 20" kick. Best sounding kit I've ever played in retrospect, but I already had two modern Mapex kits. Yeah. I know. I still hate myself to this day. Almost as much as when my former band gave away a real deal Gold Horse Klon to our producer in 2002 as a mix wrap gift. Think we paid $250 for it new order? Yeah. I'm "that guy" (facepalm).

    It's an electro acoustic like a godin. This particular one works with a piezo pickup under the bridge. Probably passive if you don't have to put in a 9v battery. most modern piezo guitars have the preamp built into the guitar so therefore they need power. I personally really like passive piezo systems. with modellers or straight into the desk they really work well, you shouldn't run too long cables tho

  • @ulfdanielsen6009
    @ulfdanielsen6009 3 года назад +2

    Been thinking a bit about the Squier and your acoustics.
    If the Squier plays that well conceivably you could put up four or five different pre loaded and pre wired pick guards for it giving you the full range of tones from the bright fifties classic Strat quack over the classic rock sounds of a 70s-80s Superstrat sound all the way to the modern Fishman Fluence / Bareknuckle Pickups /
    Emg 81/61-81/85 high gain/metal characters in one well set up guitar.
    Likewise for more acoustic work the acoustic guitars could be tonally matched with a slightly mid scooped tone with good bottom end and top for strumming paired with a warmer more mid present second guitar for additional strumming and chordal rhythm work.
    The Yamaha then could be bright and sparkly,- good for fingerstyle and single line melody playing.
    The twelve string of course should be a twelve string, as Ariana insists! ( :) ) and a second twelve string in six string setup brought in for Jumbo body sounding comping and melody playing.
    That way in both electric and acoustic setups you could have everything present in their tones,- from baritone to tenor characters in both bright and mellow characteristics.
    Simple ways to get tonally very very far with only a little in the way of actual instruments.
    My five cents. :)

    I’m really struggling to make the step to buy a bunch of rockwool and treat my studio with it because I keep reading about mold and stuff like that. Since you’ve already dealt with that issue, do you have any tips? Great Video and great studio btw. Love ur channel

    • @arianamastersofficial
      @arianamastersofficial 3 года назад +4

      Great question. Funny you should ask! I am extremely cautious with building materials and am well aware of the insidious nature of MOLD. In fact, I hired a mold inspector 3 weeks ago to come out and inspect the home (including that particular situation in the studio) as well as do air sample analyses. We have no issues with mold whatsoever, thankfully. The window we saw condensation on (from the outside of the home looking through that window) was due to the fact that the sunlight would enter that window and create interacting temps on the window - this could have lead to potential mold growth. However, on the opposing wall, we never saw condensation and when I asked the mold inspector 'why,' he told me that it was due to that side of the home NEVER getting sunlight, therefore allowing a stable temp to exist on the glass; no condensation will form and little-no opportunity for mold growth. So keep that in mind when covering windows (which in general I don't recommend, because honestly, it's not worth the risk).

    Good tour...I am setting up in a similarly-sized room.
    Concerning the Squier guitar that you love: What pickups did you install?
    I have a Squier Strat as well; a 50th Anniversary model that I bought off eBay for $85 bucks years ago. One of my favorites to play, putting some of my more expensive guitars to shame.
    In a somewhat unrelated question: What do you home studio owners do about insurance? Do you pay extra on your home policy or have a separate policy covering your gear? I watch a lot of studio vids on RUclips and never see it mentioned.
    Thanks...
    I was waiting for a battle with the wife over the tea, but you rushed past it, knowing you can't win that one!

    So, you've got 12 inputs as far as I can tell, but 14 mics on the drums. Can you explain your signal flow? From what I can see you have about 20 pieces to input but no mixer and not enough inputs on you X4 and X8p. Thanks, man. I really enjoy the videos. I've been a working musician/singer/songwriter and engineer for 35ish years, but I built my YT channel talking about smartphones and mobile tech. Pivoting toward audio again because U can't stand to talk about phones anymore and watching your channel grow over the past year or so has been fun.

      haha yes only 12 inputs. I have no idea what I was talking about when I said 14. Thanks! I have another interface/more inputs on the way so i'm getting ahead of myself.

      @@AndrewMasters What are you getting to bring in more channels? I've been thinking about augmenting my Twin X with an 8p just and 8 and using outboard, but it sure is a lot of $$. Since I'm moving toward audio I'd love to talk offline about what you've found works well in the pro audio space. At nearly 200k subs it's going to be like turning an aircraft carrier, but I've been super impressed with how you've approached your channel.

      @@DoctorMcFarlandStudios I have been looking at those. Really impressive and it seems like Arturia is serious about their interface game. I actually just ordered a TASCAM Series 8 Dyna. I've always liked TASCAM gear and this has individual 48v for each channel a single knob analog comp for each channel. At $500 it could be a steal, but pretty soon I'm going to try a piece of the Audiofuse line. I hear they have a new version of the original Audiofuse coming out.

    I have a question for you Andrew. After micing all the drums and overhead mics what should be the next thing to add, room mic, hihat, or snare bottom?

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  3 года назад +3

      I would say it depends on the track, if it’s something that would sound good with roomier drums then definitely more distant miking. If not then I would do more focused close miking.

      Certainly not ideal! But if you want to record some drums and you only got one room, compromise.

    I was wondering how comfortable you are with being limited to just "dead room" drum recording at home, and if you use any plugin tricks to get a "live room" sound when needed?
    Personally? I prefer a "dead room" from both player and mixer's perspective. Currently living in apartment E-drum + Toontrack purgatory. Fun times.
