    Zooming planet with only a camera: Saturn with rings through the Nikon Coolpix P1000. No telescope, only a camera with incredible optical zoom 125x + 4x digital zoom.
    July 7, 2023.
    Distance to Saturn: 1,366,000,000 km.

    Nice. I got my first pic of Saturn the other night. The rings were just open enogh to see the Cassini division. Although the hazy skies made the planet look a bit green, i was satisfied with the result. We still don't have full astronomical dark for about 4 weeks, so it will get better for me. I was using my 5" Maksutov and an ASI224MC.

    Impressive!!! Just imagine a camera like this one in the times of Galileo Galilei when he decided to point a very rustic telescope to the heavens and our understanding of celestial objects and Universe changed forever. Back then there was the Inquisition, now we have social media and their flat earth nutcases!

    I hope this comment finds you well.
    I've been watching your videos since years, and I've been fascinated by the Nikon Coolpix P1000. Please, I've been saving money to buy it and I am still afraid It won't be as my expectations.. Please, can you make a video using it on your Alt Az goto mount and photograph M51 galaxy? Like tacking a lot of frames and stacking them? That would be a lot appreciated. I have an Az-gti mount with an Equatorial wedge.
    Thank you so much in advance. Best regards

    At this angle, the lower portion of saturn should be like the moon where it have 5 to 10% hidden. Its 100% illuminated

    • @maxfan1591
      @maxfan1591 10 месяцев назад +2

      Why would it look the same as the Moon? It's nearly 10 times further from the Sun than the Earth is. From Saturn's point of view, the Earth and the Sun are always within a few degrees of each other - therefore we always have virtually the same view of Saturn as the Sun does, meaning we're always going to see Saturn effectively Full.
