- Prepare for a new favorite of yours. Slow roasted beets are easy and so beautiful, and every beet is different.
This dish is hearty, savory, and totally unexpected with, inspired by the flavors of coastal Palestinian cuisine, with grains from the countryside. It is one of my favorite recent creations that my friends have absolutely loved- and amazing as leftovers! Use any grain you have with this, or any root vegetable- it will work beautifully. Let me know if you make this, and Alf Sahtein :)

Normally I only watch cooking videos when I want to prepare this exact recipe. But right now I am watching all your videos just for joy! They are fantastic and it gives such a good feeling seeing you preparing all this great dishes! And for sure I am going to prepare some of your recipes in the future :) please go on! ❤️
Never heard of farro until now, but I get fab beetroot from the local organic farm shop I use. Great winter soul food. Must try this recipe.
Thank you for sharing such a delicious and healthy salad recipe, I’ve seen your other videos and it gets better and better. I love your personality and spontaneity in front of the camera, makes the video fun, engaging and inspiring to try. Congratulations and keep it up with your great energy and home inspire recipes. 💐
Chinese cuisine has a great term for dishes like this, they’re called liángbàn 涼拌, or “cool tossed”. Basically, light dishes that are supposed to be eaten cold.
My mom really liked your reaction when you ate it. We watched it over and over 😄
I just made this and it's perfect! This is the first time I've enjoyed farro- thank you for that gift. I did try adding a little bit of freshy grated ginger and it worked well with the flavor profiles. Also, can confirm that oat yogurt works just as well in here (for those of us who can't do dairy). Thank you for sharing this recipe. :)
Looks beautiful and very delicious!!!
This recipe has officially made me a beet lover!! I've always vaguely disliked beets but this method of roasting them makes them so sweet and tender. I didn't have foil but I found that wrapping the beet tightly in parchment worked just as well. (I put a pan underneath in case it leaked a bit) I added some parsley cuz I had it and used a vegan yogurt. So good!! Farro is probably my favorite grain these days, I eat it all the time. I love your recipes, the way you cook is super nourishing and similar to the kind of stuff I like to eat :) will definitely keep this in my recipe repertoire!
Found this channel 2 days ago, already made 2 vegetarian/vegan recipes. It was so good! Trying this one this weekend (just swapping regular yoghurt for coconut)

looks soo tasty...😍
will definitely be trying this one
can't wait to try this!
I'm very glad to met your channel, delicious!
It’s Summertime, so to eliminate extra kitchen heat, I peeled my beets and CAREFULLY cut them into a small dice. After a tiny drizzle of olive oil and a generous shake of hot zaatar, I roasted them on a parchment covered baking tray. At 400 degrees, it only takes a half hour of roasting. Some of the beets turn out slightly caramelized around the edges, and their naturally sweet flavor is more concentrated and amplified.
Then I thought, why not pair the beets with farro? And then I found your recipe. Great minds think alike! Take care!
Roasting a beet today. I don't have farrow but think that barley will work great as well. Thank you and happy new year!
That'll be great!! Enjoy. Sahtein :)
‘Cut it into little chunkys here’ gawwwd so precious 🙈
Sooo amazing. Perfect for meal prep. I keep eating out and my wallet is dyin :'))
Beautiful.
oh my goodness, I freaking love you! I was telling my mother and sisters about you, I'm telling them to go subscribe to your account. I can't wait to try this (and I'm thinking it might be good with freekeh too if one did not have farro on hand? Also, LMAO at minute 9.36 on here. I love when you upload new vegetarian araby recipes, thanks love!
You are so sweet! Thank you! Yes this would be great with Freekeh too, or toasted quinoa even. I hope you enjoy
اليوم طبخت مجدرة حمرة، جربيها من أطيب الاطعمةً.محتويات برغ خشن،بصل مقلي،زيت زيتون.
I am all over farro, use it in place of many other grains, hasn't overtaken rice yet in my playbook, but it is getting close. I made a farro salad last week and it has been phenomenal go to quick meal this past week. Thanks for sharing.
Farro is great! So is freekeh. I love my rice but it's important to have a variety so I like to switch it out for other grains often :)
@@NadiaGilbert Agreed, switching up is key. I will have to look into Freekeh, sounds interesting. Is it an ancient grain?
Next time I roast beetroots for borscht, I might have to set one aside to make this salad; it looks scrummy.
Looks beautiful and delicious! Can’t wait to make it this spring and summer! Sometimes I just crave a nice hearty salad on hot days. Even better if it’s already premade in the fridge. I’ve never tried farro so I’m super excited!Thank you for this amazing recipe! Quick question: did you use Greek yogurt or just regular plain yogurt?
Love It. Thanks Nadia. Ms. Nadia Gilbert deserves an invitation to NBC,CBS or ABC morning & afternoon Shows.
You've inspired me to roast beets
Great personality.
Love you so much 😭
I am adding beet greens to this as well as some brussel sprout greens...I don't know what 'matt' is though. Just got three gorgeous beets out of our garden...let the sacrifice begin!
Beets 😍 and farro 😍
ok now I'm watching all your videos....
سوف اجرب سلطة الشمندر
Sahara wa afiah habibaty Nadia!
Darn spellcheck! Sahah wa afiah!
are you gonna do a Q&A video ?
Omg what are you chopping at 6:30? Just shared your videos with my family and friends! I’m so obsessed with all your videos
Thanks fore the love! I'm chopping the roasted garlic that was in the lil pouch with the beets :)
@@NadiaGilbert wow i thought so! But it looks darker like a sun dried tomato or a date. My roasted garlic still looks white. But I might add dates anyways. Love them
@@bluepollen1 It's because it's covered in beet juice! Normally it does darken in color a bit when roasted and getting caramelized, but the red is from the beets!
why you don't have at least million views per video is beyond my understanding
So kept thinking a hot pepper or two diced small would be awesome in that salad.
Hi beautiful girl, your videos are really cool, thanks for sharing with us your awesome personality and knowledge 🙋♀️🥂💖
Do you buy all organically farmed vegies or regular ones at supermarts...??
Right now only shopping minimally at nearby markets; I buy locally as much as I can. Organic at the supermarket is not always healthier/better. When the farmers markets are open, I try to only shop for my produce there- it is incomparable.
I actually bought beat powder today to drink.
Hey Nadia
I do not have farro 🤷♀️
What do I do 🤔?
Quinoa? Rice? Will that taste nice?
Either! I just made a salad with cooked quinoa that I toasted with spices after, and it may be another new favorite of mine. I'd try that first :) Sahtein~
@@NadiaGilbert I bet lentils would work nicely.
My latest revelation (regarding beets) is to roast them without foil until they shrink significantly. The flavor becomes fruity, earthiness in flavor disappears completely.
How can we get the recipe ?
Damm this girl is 🔥
This was great but the audio noise needs to be fixed
What is the meaning of sahtien?
Recipe looks delicious!
sahtein is the arabic bon appetite , it literally translates to twice your health
Sahten means bon appétit/enjoy your meal 😊
"A little bit of garlic powder"...adds half the shaker 😂
lol casual
Is faro the same as balilah?
balilah is barely
What if parchment paper is worse for you than Aluminum foil?! Reverse the layers?
uh, no

Working on new videos coming soon!
You’re so cute haha
Faro in Arabic ?
if you can get farra you can replace it with yamani rice
Why can’t you eat the cooked beet skins? Why can’t you chop up the collard greens raw?
I'm tryna eat healthier so I'm going this out and probably a few others. #over40nowme
Oh Nadia, let's hope that beet is not GMO'D
