Back when I drove for TMC, I was heading south in Indiana. Road was closed a about 20 miles ahead (shocking they had it marked well in advance). I stopped to check my atlas and confirm with my GPS. I found a way around before their posted detour. I'm traveling along, and about 1/2 mile before my last turn, there was a pipe that hung above the road at 12' 6". I scooted over to the side, put my Hazzard lights on and checked my atlas again. My truck was 13' 6". While I was looking at my atlas, a sheriff pulled up behind me and asked what the issue was. I explained, and he offered to go back up the road to block traffic so I could back up to get turned around. Now the fun began... I had to back up 3/4 of a mile to the intersection. The officer was very friendly, very polite, and very thankful that I had the common sense to stop and not attempt to squeeze under. Even further back in time, I had DOT teach me how to run a log book. Never got a ticket for my logs being wrong. It was NY, WV, MD, and Ohio DOT that taught me. Just have to know how to talk to them.

Crazy drive there driver..good to see you made it out. Reminds me of the time I took the Dragon's Tail(not on purpose). State Trooper followed me all the way up. As I crested the top, I pulled over to have a breather.. Trooper pulls up beside me and says "Excellent Job. I saw you and decided to follow you just in case you get into trouble as many drivers before you. But why are you on this road? It's not recommended for Semi's" I told him, "I missed the first sign and when I saw the second sign.. I had gone to far to back up and thank you for keeping an eye on me."

a buddy of mine bought his father an old peterbuilt that needed some work, took 9mo to get it roadworthy and fully sound working on it in his free time, his father went from renting a truck to using his own eventually bought a trailer that needed some work but was just needing maintenance the company had been to cheep to bother with, but alot of his jobs had their own trailers they wanted moved so... outside that flatbed+ cargo container combo, he mostly just pulled companies cooler trailers last i heard, from what they say, those old trucks like he got his dad, will go forever if you give them some TLC from time to time, he got the truck for...and i kid not...$750usd after walking up to the house and asking about the truck sitting with seeds growing up around it... hell, they got it running in the guys side yard, old man was SURE it wasnt going to run, he had dumped 1500 into somebody trying to get it running and..was ripped off because a couple good old boys in a busted arse f250 with tool kits made of random sit they collected over the years... got it running well enough it drove home...within 2hrs... 3hrs before they moved out...had to run over and get temp tags for it and a charge kit for the A/C.... the old guy actually showed them some tricks/querks of the model and was glad it was going to somebody who intended to put it back to work, he bought it brand new, back when smokey and the bandit was in theaters... he had saved and invested and had enough to get the extact truck model he wanted, and did some extra work to it himself...like the booster setup they added, the problem was something not-uncommon so, they told the old guy he had been ripped off all those years back, because the 2 of them could have fixxed that back when it had stopped working, when they were still in highschool... the problem i gather was something very common that anybody who worked on diesals would have gotten fixxed in a matter of hours at worst, that a prof shop charged him that and wanted more to actually figure it out and fix it... old man apparently told them the fellow who owned it fled the country years before when his wife found out he was running a chopshop and reported him to the authorities... anyway... years ago i went on a few deliveries with my buddy who did this for his dad, and... he only drives truck for his company when they need somebody due to illness or just way more business then drivers, and one of them... we had to use the forklift to rotate the trailer and he turned the tractor around and was able to get past the trailer and hook up... was a low rider flat bed tilt trailer, he was shocked i was so good with a forklift.. he SUCKS at it... after that he had me unload the 2nd delivery... "how can you be so fast and good with a fork lift, and why would our boss never let you drive?" i had to explain that when you show up the boss so badly his wife laughs at him... it goes one of 2 ways, the guy laughs along, or you get punished... i got punished... its not my fault he couldnt get the pallets of shit off the truck and i was able to hop in and in 5 min get something he had been fucking with for over 2hrs done.. (he just, lacks still and understanding of basic physics.. i even used the electric standup forklift rather then the one more suited to the weight load.. mostly because i was movingthe stuff around 12-16 feet from the loading dock off a flatbed truck.. after that... he would never let me drive a forklift if he was in the office... his wife years later when she found out... apparently made him suffer for weeks over it..shes a nice gal and.. told him he should have gotten some pointers from me... she wasnt being mean about it she was being serious... i even kept him from ending up tipping over in the electric one night he was about to pickup a load that WOULD tip that over... at least he listened after his cousin one of the other managers nodded affirming my warning... hes not a bad guy..not evil.. just.. never fully grew out of the childish mentality... i got a check for 750 for my bday, and another a month later on xmas from them... and she added me on social media... she felt super bad when she found out i was disabled... "dont feel bad, its not your fault my body hates itself"
No thank you! It's bad enough with some of the delivery spots that I have to go to sometimes, delivering PVC pipe, scaffolding and other construction materials. I've been to a job site where it rained the night before and I got stuck trying to get out! Had to have a push from a telehandler. Then had to wash the mud off at the gate because the city had an ordinance about mud flying off the tires. Made another delivery that had a 90° turn right after pulling through a gate that was barely wide enough for the truck, in the mud! I had to have a pull from a Ford pickup to get in to the loading location of 3' gas pipe. The driveway was about a 60° angle! Differential lock and low gear didn't work! Gravel was too loose, just spun out! Backing into places where the trailer jackknifes at 90° and on an incline! Got my winch smashed into my deckplate! Ripped my mudflaps off from both sides trying to back out of a too sandy road. Ripping mudflaps off from backing over curbs! I need to learn to bungy cord them up before backing up! I got some videos of those bad deliveries gone wrong on my channel!
I understand your trouble my company makes 12 foot wide roads with like a 60 foot T turn arounds and no extra wide radiuses you can hardly get a pickup and trailer around on the roads let alone a 53 foot trailer and a 25ish foot? semi, and when they do make semi turn arounds they use broken mud mats that are 6in thick and dont make ramps up it so you're driving over splintered boards which could give you a flat or catch something under and its like hitting a curb getting on them. If I was a driver I wouldn't go half the places they take these guys after all the trim I've seen torn up and the bumps they hit.
That is a super narrow road. I would not drive that in a regular vehicle. That looks like a one lane not for 2 vehicles. Wow! Police officer was nice. Have a great day, and thanks for the content.
I know the misery of home deliveries well! I use to work for a small company that specialized in delivering gravel & landscape supplies to houses. Dispatch would send me out in a transfer truck to small roads like this all the time. Several times I'd be going along, & see road signs that say NO TRUCK OVER 26 Feet long. By the time we see the sign, we'd see the sign, there was no place to turn around! My personal favorite is when your combination is 78 feet long, & the homeowner says, "Sure come on in, there's room to turn you around at the end of the road. When ya get to the end of the road, there's barely enough room to spin a pickup truck & 5th wheel trailer around. I got really good at backing up that trailer, with no locking mechanism on the steerable turntable dolly!
Man that is such a tight road. Some people who are wanting to get their product delivered they don't realize on how big the trailer or the truck can be but not that they don't realize that sometimes they can't fit in tight places. But to me I think the cop was really nice unless you drive in his car and showing you on what places you could take to try to turn around
I've done delivery work in a Merc' Sprinter & you can get into some spots. One time I managed to get into a delivery, but coming out was a total nightmare, with the clutch burning up as it was on a slope. Problem was height, went there & was low but after unloading the height popped up, causing major problems for me! Some people have zero patience, yet want their goods delivered yesterday. Have a bit more patience for truck & delivery drivers, remember where most of your home & contents come in by lorry/trucks. Thanks 🇬🇧👍🏼
My hubby was a trucker too, so I know all the trials n tribulations of that indeed. I remember once I was teaching my oldest to back out of our driveway, n my hubby was waiting for him to back out cos we had to plug in the reefer, and all of a sudden this fedex driver runs right into the back of our van, n then she tried to lie her way out of it saying it was our fault, when u can clearly see a semi with turn signals, plus the back up lights on our van, n she just whipped around my hubby and ran right into the van. What a ding dong, what she didn’t know is right after she pulled out I called corporate fedex and had her truck no. And my hubby n me both told corporate exactly what happened, lol take care n god bless😁😁😁😁😁

Tough terrain, but you get the job done…. What’s amazing is that local drivers all bitch about big trucks in area, but next thing you know, your delivery is to them for their expensive project….
Back in my days working for Coca Cola I had two resorts I had to deliver to on very similar roads with almost the exact same length truck. Was always an interesting run.
They should have sent you with a smaller truck for that delivery on that kind of road at least you made it off the road and out of there may God be with you as your co-pilot
I had to unload my tractor and hook a chain to my trailer and drag it over sideways three times to get across a low water bridge in the hills. I have delivered hay to places that ice road truckers would freak-out on lol.

Are u in CT? It looks that where u are when this happened
Those powerlines made me nervous...thank God for the flatbed.
You made that look easy. Nice job
What a cool cop.
It's a Penske. Of course the A/C doesn't work. Kentucky is full of roads like that with new constructions waiting for deliveries. Nice job!
West Virginia is even worse
@@lomparti I will not argue that point.😀
Holy smokes a cop helping
That was a fun day !! 👍👍🇬🇧
Nice day for country drive looks cool on big screen
Hung in there long enough to see you had the cam going before all the good stuff went down, phew!

Officer was great. I could not drive automatics with a lot of faith in them. Love Eaton, Fuller , 10 speed, or Road Ranger 13 to 15 was nice especially with Cat about 375 plus. Those wee the days. Ages me but it is what it is. LOL Be safe out there.
Awesome cop
Tough terrain, but you get the job done…. What’s amazing is that local drivers all bitch about big trucks in area, but next thing you know, your delivery is to them for their expensive project….
I'd drive the forklift down the road and see it for myself make a plan before I move. If the cop was never there to help
SENSATIONAL!!
That looks like awesome job
That was cool! 😀👍
Dang !! What a Nice Officer !! Good Cops are the best cops !! The bad cops ruin it for all good cops..
I had to unload my tractor and hook a chain to my trailer and drag it over sideways three times to get across a low water bridge in the hills. I have delivered hay to places that ice road truckers would freak-out on lol.
